Anyone else struggle making friends?

I've never been very skilled in being social, I'm at a loss for how to start a conversation and then can end up getting stuck during one. Even when I did somewhat make a connection with a group of classmates in my public speaking class a few years ago they weren't very receptive to me.
I'm a wait to be approached kind of gal, but no one really seems to notice me.

So yeah it's difficult for me to make friends and though the circumstances in my past friendships were out of the individual's control, my current best friend was the first I'd ever made who actually stuck around for longer than a year (like almost twenty now).

Online I can communicate better because I communicate best in writing, but I still tend to go pretty unnoticed compared to the community around me.

I'm the same way. That's how I made friends in high school. People would come up and talk to me, and once I start talking, they realize I'm a funny person and generally awesome. lol. I also communicate better in writing. So you're not the only one. It's hard to make friends if you're not a out and about social person.

Same, I met my best friend in the sixth grade after another girl who'd befriended me turned bitch on me and she (my bestie) invited me to sit with her at lunch. Then it was through my bestie that I met my other close friend in high school and through that friend that I met another. I'd actually had the second friend in my freshman English class and I'd been interested in her when I'd noticed she had a Pokemon binder and I was really into Pokemon at the time. So I thought "Ok this could work" but was never really able to talk to her. Good thing my bestie had a class with her as well.

Pokemon! Helping us make friends since 1995!
Actually for me it's easy to make friends, both online and in real life, I'm an extrovert and that helps, but how many true friends? umm just one. Yeah, I have only a best friend and our friendship has gone on for many many many years!
@Cordy_Chase love your gif 🙂

What I've been struggling a lot with lately is how to keep friends.
I moved around several times, and went to boarding school in HS, leaving behind the friends I grew up with, and it was very hard for me when I came to realize that we were growing apart.
In HS; I made friends, with two people especially, but I moved countries after graduation. MY "BFF" and I text each other all the time, we make sure we spend at least new years eve every year together, we work consciously hard on our friendship, like any relationship should be taken care of.
But despite my best efforts, I grew apart from all the other people and we just send our wishes for birthdays and all though Facebook, and it pains me a lot as I'm having a hard time letting go.
At the end of the year, I'll be out of college and will leave the one association that made me feel welcome here, and I'm scared like hell that I will end up all alone, because my social life pretty much evolves around them. I don't think we're friends, we just share a place where we nurture our passions, but we don't organize outings all together, and I don't think I'll keep seeing them once I'm out. I don't know what my life will look like in september and it's hard to think about it.
