Anyone else viewing others who are watching Buffy for the first time...

I'm watching along with my brother who is more or less seeing it for the first time. He saw some of it during the original run when we were kids because my mom was into the show, but he didn't follow closely back then like I did and he doesn't remember 95% of it.

We're up to Kendra's first appearance, ended on the "To Be Continued"
 
I’ve watched a couple of different reactor’s, including Ashleigh mentioned above. Though I haven’t gotten through her s3 reactions yet, because I took a YouTube break.

I also liked TheHorrorBandwagon’s Buffy (and Charmed) reactions.

Though I stop after season 4 generally. Then I just watch their The Gift and Once more with feeling/Tabula rasa reactions
 
I'd mostly rather watch the show again than watch reactors . I have seen some good stuff on Youtube...but I usually prefer rewatcher fans to first timers .
 
Just watched Surprise and Innocence with my brother for the first time.

When he saw them going to the military base he immediately asked, "IS BUFFY GETTING A ****ING BAZOOKA?" He was pleased.

Also glad Oz is in on the secret and part of things now. With the werewolf episode up next I'm sure he'll like that.

He finds Cordelia very amusing in general, and is also happy that her relationship with Xander is finally out in the open.

He was horrified to see the statutory rape scene and devastated to see Buffy's face when Angelus gave her the brush off, and then again when Buffy was crying in her bed. He was cheering at the screen when Giles have Buffy the talk at the end of the episode, though. His oldest son is 15 and he really pictures his kid in Buffy's shoes and appreciates Giles as a father figure. He's not gonna like the season 3 poisoning at all.

He was also super pissed at Joyce throughout Ted. He softened a bit after he realized Ted was drugging her, but as I and others pointed out many times in the past Xander and Willow were also drugged but they believed Buffy when it mattered and Joyce didn't.
 
The only person that I saw first time BTVS reactions was my mom, she got in briefly at the moments when I rewatched BTVS here & there, 2 scenes she watched & reacted :
1 - The double date Buffy/Parker & Spike/Harmony in The Harsh Light Of The Day, she spotted the attraction/chemistry of my fav pairing which I've never talked about.
2 - Bangel reunion at the end of S2, Buffy softly kissed Angel with Close Your Eyes song & then killed him which shocked my mom the moment Angel got wounded & sent to hell.
 
Made it almost to the end of season 2 with my brother, but he had to leave right at the point where Buffy and Spike are coming clean to Joyce. Didn't wanna go, but had to pick up my nephew from a birthday party.

He immediately recognized Wentworth Miller in the prior episode from his time in the Arrowverse. He found Cordelia hilarious in this episode. He was impressed with the fish suits visually but skeptical how a high school swimming coach was able to genetically engineer fishguys. Fair point.

He didn't like Angel watching Buffy in 1996 at all.

Wants to see Snyder get his comeuppance.

Wasn't surprised to see Kendra die, as soon as he saw her pop up in the episode he figured she was toast. On his toes after Ms Calendar's death.
 
I've been following Ashleigh's channel since her first year on YouTube and absolutely adore her, however, I stopped watching her Buffy reactions once I realized that she was completely skipping Angel the show when she got to S4, which is just blashphemous to me 😀 still love her film reactions, though! Also follow her second channel where she vlogs stuff now and then - her personality is super fun and refreshing for a platform full of 'super nice, uncomplicated' creators.

Currently watching Darcie on Patreon, just started her Angel S5 reactions today and another one that I adore; I've watched her Buffyverse reactions, her Veronica Mars (those were hilarious, complete with a murder board), her Charmed, Agents of Shield (most of the MCU, really) and probably more that I can't remember right now. I'm waiting for her to finish her Dollhouse reactions (she's at the end of S1 on Patreon atm) so I can binge 😀

Beyond that, I also watch Horror Bandwagon, though am taking a break currently right before their As You Were reaction (wonder why, lol) 🙂

I also like Ashleigh and Darcie's reviews, I watch on YouTube.
About 10 years ago I tried showing my sisters kids some Buffy. I remember babysitting the new born and watching Beauty and the Beasts (it was on TV) with the 4 year old, and when Oz changes to a wolf at the end she goes "that's why you don't go out at night during a full moon." 😆 don't know where a four year old learned that. lol. Then I showed the older kids Once More With Feeling, or maybe Buffy v Dracula (or maybe both?🤔) and they liked it. My nephew really liked Spike, which is not surprising since he's also an adorable blonde, rascal. lol. About 6 years ago I showed my oldest niece the first 3 episodes and she was like, yeah it was good. She never watched it again. lol. It's fun to watch with people who have either never seen an episode or haven't watched it in years.
 
My brother and I just recently finished up Doppelgangland. He quite enjoyed that one.

He thought Cordelia was a goner when she was talking to caged vampire Willow. He has sensed that she doesn't really have a place on the show at this point, but I don't think he expects her to follow Angel to his own show (he remembers that Angel got a spin-off, but he doesn't remember when or who went with him).
 
Just watched Earshot.

This one hits particularly hard for us because of the context surrounding the episode. It was originally supposed to air the same week as the Columbine High School massacre, and with the related subject matter it was pulled and aired in the next season instead.

The reason it's of particular significance to my brother and me is because we lived just about two miles away from Columbine High when it happened. My brother was in high school (a different but nearby one) and I was in elementary school. We both have vivid memories of the news broadcasts, the general panic around town, the enhanced security at school the next day. We didn't know anyone who was directly harmed, but we both knew people who did. I gave him the backstory about it being pulled once the episode itself referenced the rising frequency of school shootings. And really, it's amazing that the frequency of school shootings had already permeated popular culture to this degree before Columbine, perhaps the most infamous shooting of them all. Horrible to even think about.

The episode itself comes with some pretty hilarious moments, though. Buffy finding out about Joyce and Giles having sex, Cordelia immediately saying everything she thinks, Xander trying desperately not to think about having sex with Buffy, Buffy smirking at Wesley when she catches him leering at Cordelia. All those moments got audible laughs from my brother.

In the previous episode he was convinced Angel actually had turned again, so the deception was pretty effective. And he did notice and point out that they never really dealt with the aftermath of any of the other deaths Buffy was involved with (the zookeeper, the swim coach, Octarus, Gwen Post, the German twins). The zookeeper and the coach were both accidental, but you'd think there'd still be some kind of inquiry. And she straight up killed Octarus on purpose (justifiably) and just left his corpse at an ice rink. And she tricked those German dudes into shooting each other in the school -- what happened to their bodies? Did Snyder, the Council, the police not have any questions? There was no body with Gwen Post and the Watchers acknowledged that she had gone evil, but they still didn't quite acknowledge that Buffy killed her.

He pointed out that the story with Faith would have been stronger if they acknowledged Buffy had literally also killed several people (some accidentally, some intentionally) and then highlighted how differently she handled it in contrast to Faith. It's still compelling and the relevant episodes are still good, but it's always disappointing when they ignore their own lore and miss an opportunity for more layered storytelling. I'm guessing they didn't want to acknowledge it because they wanted to emphasize it as something Faith and Angel had in common; if Buffy's in the club too it becomes less of a piece of tension between the three of them.

She didn't skip Angel, though, she just did like other reacters have done in the past with Angel. She put her reactions to it on her Patreon. The show just doesn't get the views on YouTube generally, so a lot of people who reacted to the Buffyverse saved Angel for their Patreon membership.

As for OP, I have gotten pretty much everyone I care about into the Buffyverse at some point. So, all I had left was find some reacters on YT. I've watched a lot of them, but the most genuine to me have always been Liam Duke and Dakara. They were really into both shows and you could tell.

I'll check the ones you mentioned, though. Never heard of them. I'm glad more and more people check these shows out. With the SMG continuation coming up, I bet even more people will want to go back and watch the original shows eventually.
 
All the way through Spiral with my brother on his first watch.

He's seeing death flags all around for Buffy but he knows there are two more seasons so he's skeptical. He thinks someone else is going to die, and was straight up mad when he thought Giles was going to die from the spear wound in this episode and also when Glory caught Tara in the previous episode.

He is fond of both Tara and Anya as characters. He had no strong feelings on Riley at all. Generally amused by Spike but thinks he gets away with too much. Laughed out loud at Adam when he saw him. They got so many monster designs right on this show, but this was a big miss.

We're also watching Angel. He wasn't huge on season 1 but he's loving season 2. We're starting the Pylea arc next, so he's about to meet Fred. He has always liked Cordelia and was surprised to see Wes pop up. Likes Gunn, Lorne, Lilah, Lindsey, Darla, Dru, the whole season 2 cast really.
 
Just watched The Gift. Now we have several episodes of Angel to get to before he gets to Bargaining, and he's in anguish about it.
 
Up to the episode right before Darla gives birth. I don't have the heart to tell him that his chunk of episodes is pretty much the peak of the series and season 4 is mostly bad. At least I have season 5 to look forward to.

He likes Fred and is excited to see Cordelia becoming more active in combat this season. He is skeptical that the baby will actually be born, doesn't see the Darla self-staking coming at all I don't think.

On the Buffy side we just got through Tabula Rasa. He pointed out what an incredibly bad idea it was for the shark dude's minions to try to storm the Magic Box, and they were extremely lucky they happened to do it at a time when their memories were wiped. Because with their memories that's a Slayer, one of the toughest vampires in the world, two powerful witches, a Watcher with high level swordsmanship and magic, a former vengeance demon/low level witch, and a fairly strong early 20s guy with 6 years of experience fighting demons (and also Dawn). A gang of vampire thugs would probably be safer bursting into the Pentagon than that place.

I was not sure if he'd like Once More, With Feeling because he's definitely not the musical type, but he enjoyed the framing of it and appreciated the work put into it. He was most impressed with Tony Head and Amber Benson. He thought Marsters struggled with his accent while singing.

He was overall satisfied with how Buffy came back to life. He's seen all the Marvel movies and we grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, so he's always on guard for when a franchise starts to cheapen deaths and erase them on whims. Sad to see the Buffybot go, a bit mad at Giles for taking off. He laughs at pretty much every single Anya joke.
