Anyone excited for GLOW?

I also watched the pilot, and it succeeded my expectations as well. I'm not that big into wrestling either (does old school WWF count?) but I love a good period piece, and the actors seem to inhabit their characters pretty well, so I'm definitely going to watch the rest. And any Veronica Mars fans remember Piz? Probably not a lot of people's favorite character from that show (if you're unaware of VM fandom, Piz is pretty much the Riley to Veronica's Buffy) but I'm glad he's getting more work. 🙂

Am liking the tension between the producer wanting a more soapy stereotype filled show and the director wanting more depth to the characters. The truth is so where in the middle. Like characters in a movie you do need to care or be interested in a wrestler and they do need a backstory. Then again wrestling also works best when it is kept simple, and is a despute of some kind. Anyway the characters are starting get more depth, and at least the director isn't turning out to be a complete sleaze. Love the b-movie gags too. So wish Blood Disco was a real film😀

This show is absolutely my new favourite. It's just so brilliant - everyone is really well cast, it's hilariously funny and smartly written, I even like the wrestling parts! 😀

What really makes it work is the chemistry between Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin as Ruth & Debbie. If Ruth and Debbie didn't work, the show would struggle, but they're equally as fantastic together as they are apart. No sign yet of a Season 2, but I'm hopeful. 🙂

Glad you've been liking it🙂 Yeah it works whether you are a wrestling fan or not. Its a really well told story with characters you learn to care about. Brie doing the Russian gimmick is great😛 Love the episode where they do their first show in front of a audience with the rap at the end😉(based on a really thing by the way). Think the pacing of the first season has been spot on.

Think I will check out the actual show from the 80s too. Never seen it. Should get some fun, so bad its good retro vibes if nothing else😀

Think you like it for that if nothing else :)
I have to say too, I know it's super cheesy and obvious, but when
Debbie stands up in the crowd after Zoya the Destroyer turns on and beats Fortune Cookie and says "I'm a proud American housewife and mother and I will fight you for the freedom of our country"
(I'm paraphrasing here), I literally squealed with joy!

I'm so sad.

😀

It was super cheesy and obvious, but stil i like how they did things on it. Too bad they didnt have it on more 😳

I think from a wrestling stand point it was a bad show and female wrestling has come a long way since. But what I like about this series is that it shows the hard work that goes into training to be a wrestler and putting on a show, but also shows the positive sides of the biz.

True about the two points thst you made but it did show female wrestlers who were good by themselves without having to pair up withn men who did most of the work & fame too .

Just wanted to add that I watched the documentary last night and I was shocked how accurate the casting of the show was to the original characters. You could clearly see who they modelled who on. I thought it was a great documentary. When is Season 2 going to be announced?!

Just finished it last night and I thought it was cute! I'm not big on netflix shows in general (except for OITNB) but I really enjoyed this one so I'm glad it's getting another season.

have you seen Stranger Things? It's awesome!
@HowiMetdaSlayer

I have! It's good but I personally didn't care much for it... My problem with Netflix shows is that I rarely get invested in the story even if I can understand why other people love it. I think the way they release shows also isn't for me. I hate having to binge and then wait for another year.
