I didn't like him at all, he was too needy and too grabby and was there ever an episode with them where they weren't in bed? Buffy's just cursed to have a long line of very annoying, very ugly boyfriends (Spike was never a boyfriend). I just didn't like him, it's like he was semi-evil while working with the initiative but magically perfect when he met Buffy. I just didn't like him.

I hated him!!!
I know there is alot of people that hate Riley, but I am not one of them. I thought he was O.K. He never really annoyed me that much. It actually got to the point where I felt sorry for him, early in Season 5. He knew that he loved Buffy and she would never love him.

I don't really have special and excess feelings for him; I don't hate him and I don't love him. Mine strategy was to ignore, he was a rebound guy and didn't hurt Buffy as Spike did. So I guess he was OK.

Well, I guess I did kinda feel for him, and maybe I'm a little closed minded because I just so wanted to see Spike and Buffy together, but I just thought that even with him being all secret agenty that he was very boring.

I don't hate Riley AT ALL.

Haha, freakydorky.. I'm 100% sure that you're not allone feeling that way.. I happen to be one of the Riley-haters myself. He really was a very uninteresting and annoying character in my opinion. I can stand him (and even almost like him) in the beginning of season four but very very soon he turns into only annoying and pretty much nothing else to me..

I loved Riley! He was such a contrast to Angel and Buffy's normal type and I thought they're relationship was interesting. I tend to prefer handsome and wholesome to dark and broody...

I think you and I are ALWAYS going to agree on Riley-related things ;)
Yep, I definitely hate Riley. He was very boring and one dimensional. I think he was best described as "Captain Cardboard. 😉

But on the other hand, even though I hate him, I do feel sorry for him. I mean, he really seemed to love Buffy, and I think she was sort of using him, trying to have that "normal" relationship with a "normal" guy.

haha!

I didn't hate him... I just don't care about him, at all. I kinda liked how he was caught with the vamp prostitute though.

Um, I kinda love Riley. Ok, I don't really like his relationship with Buffy as much as I like Spuffyness (esp. Season 5...Season 4 B/R is really cute). Mostly...I'd want him as MY boyfriend 😉 I think Buffy could have made it work, but she didn't really want to. And since she didn't want to make it work with him, then that's her choice and she shouldn't stay with him just becauseThey weren't very good together there at the end. But I like him as a character even if I don't like his relationship with Buffy. Spike and Buffy's interactions were almost always more interesting to me. I wish Riley could have been around WITHOUT being Buffy's boyfriend.

Wanna share him? hehehe
I didn't hate Riley, but I didn't care for him either. To me he was just a character that was just...there...and most of the time he did annoy me. I didn't find his character interesting and I thought he was nothing special.

I didn't really hate Riley.I just thought he was very annoying. In the beginning of season 4 he was okay but he started to get on my bad side when he was going thru his withdrawal(spelling?) symptoms.I think that was in the episode Goodbye Iowa.He just really got on my nerves there.I did kinda feel bad for him in season 5 when he said Buffy didn't love him.Shame on Buffy for paying more attention to her dying mother than her selfish boyfriend.

It wasn't that he was upset because she was paying more attention to her mother, he understood that. He wanted to be included and treated like someone important in her life in terms of what was going on with her mother. He wanted to be there for her and she wouldn't let him. That's got to be frustrating.

One of the reasons I feel for Riley so much is that I am in a similiar position. (No I am not dating a Slayer though). I am in love with a girl who I know cares for me but doesn't and probably won't ever love me. It is an awful feeling, so I know how helpless he felt.

I didn't like Riley during s4 and 5, I was really relieved when I read spoilers about him leaving, but in retrospect he was a really sweet and nice guy, and maybe Buffy (and the fans) treated him unfairly. I really liked his guest star stint in s6, where we got to see that he ended up alright.

He kind of reminds me of Dean, Rory's first boyfriend, from Girlmore Girls, anyone with me?

Yeah, now that I think about it, he does remind me of Dean! But then again, I didn't like Dean at all. 😉

I did like Dean a lot, cause he's like the ultimate good guy boyfriend, and though I don't know about ultimate I'm defintely good guy too, so hence I root for Dean and in retrospect have to give kudos to Riley.

Yeah I agree. I mean, if Riley was in my real life I'd probably like him. I always thought Buffy wasn't treating him right (which was understandable but still not right). But as a character in a TV show he just wasn't interesting, and he didn't really fit in with the others (in a TV show way).

I agree with eponinethen.I guess Riley was an okay character. He just didn't fit in with the rest of the scoobies that well.I kinda always found him to be too normal.Other than him being a military guy who fought demons.

Well actually I thought he was a pretty terrible character, but a nice guy, but I get what you're saying :)
