Anyone here know anything about geometry?

This thread was created so I could find people to help me with geometry problems. Someone helped me, so it's all over, but anyone else who needs help can post stuff here and we can help ya.

I have 240 geometry problems to do that are due on Friday, this Friday! Thing is, I have no clue how to do any of the problems. They are all on radicals. Does anyone know how to simplify radicals?
 
lets see.... we have all types of slimplifying... um...

EXAMPLE: radical 8, radical 75, radical 125, radical 24
EXAMPLE: 2 radical 4
EXAMPLE: radical 10 squared, radical 10 to the 4th power, radical 10 to the 7th power
EXAMPLE: radical a x radical ab, radical 8bc x radical 4bc
EXAMPLE: radical 16 divided by radical 81


i dont think the board has radical sign, so i just put the actual word.

It occurs to me that it would be better just to give you a good solid link to a page that contains every step.

See if you can work through that, and if you have some you are having trouble with. let me know. That way I don't waste too much of your time talking about the easy stuff, and also you can get a good grounding so that I don't have to write about the basics, which you might know anyway.

I think what I might do is either:

A) write in really light colored pen so she just puts C on the paper and doesnt bother correcting.
B) cut open my hand and write the paper in blood, and then bleed to death and not to the paper anyway.

Well, if you decide you just want the answers, I can do them really quick. I mean, you have to learn this stuff, it's always used in math after this, but I don't want you commiting Hari Kari all over your math paper lol.
 
Nah, I gotta work through this myself. upon looking on the website you gave me, all the 40 problems i got through are wrong... haha... this is going to be a fun night...
 
OK, here we go, number 1! I think I should be bumped down into Algebra II. I can do Algebra. I finished last year with a 97! Does anyone else see anything wrong with a 15-year-old freshmen being in a sophomore/junior class?!
 
Not at all!

It's a wicked compliment, because teachers don't advance students without being sure they can handle it.

Don't worry, if you can pull 97's in Algebra, then this stuff will be easy for you once you get into it, and do some of the work.
 
First marking period my final grade was a 78 (a C plus), and so far this marking period, my grade is an 83 (a B). It's really hard for me to do this stuff. I don't know why. This thing is being counted as a test... so... probably... all do 65 out of the 240 and that way im still passing...
 
Hey, it's going to be hard, because they put you in a more advanced class. It'll take a while to get up to speed, that's all. The fact that they put you there, implies that they think you will be able to get up to speed, not that they think it'll be easy.

Just stay confident. Once you catch up, you'll be pulling those 90's again. Besides, algebra eventually uses those nasty radicals anyway 😉
 
Yup. As you can see from my signature, I've only managed to figure out 6 of the 240 problems! But, I'm all caught up in all of my classes, except tests and quizes, so, now I just have to focus on these stupid radicals....
 
Uh ho, I'm in geometry now, radicals sound really hard and I dont want to learn them! My Geometry class has freshmen, sophomores (me!), juniors, and seniors in it...it's funny.

Thanks. I think I might turn to alcohol, caffeen pills, and/or drugs. Or I can just buy it from Toria who's selling it for 2 dollars a page...
 
Nah, I stopped the under-age drinking during the summer when I found out my x-girlfriend wasn't dead and thus her death was not my fault. But.... caffeen pills are still in the running. And, I have like 300 dollars, I could spare 10 dollars to buy the whole thing...

I might just pull a 'dorris' and kill them all....

My friend tried to help me, but he just wrote all the perfect square route things, and I have no clue how that is supposed to help me. When are we going to use geometry in real life?!

Here's one just for kicks:
radical a x radical ab

Ok, so we cant touch radical (a) yet. Nothing we can do with that part, so let's move on.
Radical (ab): Ok, here we can split it up. Right now it is
Radical (a times b).
Any time we have two numbers in a radical sign that multiply with one another, we can split them up into seperate radicals. So let's change that into Radical(a) x Radical(b), instead of Radical (ab).
So let's look at what we got so far:
Radical (a) x Radical (a) x Radical (b)
-now any time you have a radical multiplied by an identical radical, you can just delete those radicals, and keep only the number inside. For instance:
Radical (4) x Radical (4) (but hey! The square root of 4 = 2, so Radical (4) = 2.)
=2 x 2
=4
This is just to show you why it always works.
So to continue:
Radical (a) x Radical (a) x Radical (b)
becomes
a x Radical (b)

radical (8bc) x radical (4bc)
again, the first step is to split everything up. Let's write each multiplied number in the radicals, as their own seperate radical
radical (8) x Radical (b) x Radical (c) x Radical (4) x Radical (b) x Radical (c)
Put the Radicals that are the same together to make it easier to see
radical (8) x radical (4) x radical (b) x radical (b) x radical (c) x radical (c)
But remember what happens when you multiply one radical by another identical radical? They cancel, leaving only the number inside remaining. So...
radical (8) x radical (4) x b x c
next step: We can see that Radical 4 is easy. The square root of 4 = 2. So let's write that in
radical (8) x 2 x b x c
now we have that nasty 8. Let's break it up, so that one of the numbers inside the radical is a perfect square
radical (4x2) x 2 x b x c
split up the radical. Numbers multiplied inside a radical can be made into two seperate radicals instead
radical (4) x radical (2) x 2 x b x c
again, 4 is a perfect square, so the square root of 4, is 2.
2 x radical (2) x 2 x b x c
multiply the two whole numbers (integers) together
2 x 2 x radical (2) x b x c
4 x radical (2) x b x c
might as well make it look pretty
4bc x radical (2)

done!~
