Anyone like Angelus?

Oh, I absolutely LOVED Angelus! - My favorite Angelus line is "You can kiss my vampire ass!" HEH!!

And I loved Spike (even before he got his soul) and Dark Willow, too. Who didn't I like? Ugh! - "Evil Cordy"!!! That whole thing with Connor was just.... icky.

I'm very interested in the Angel/Angelus dichotomy. My own "academic" interest is in the exploration of the nature of evil in modern popular culture, a subject that Mr Whedon has explored in everything he has ever written. The Angel/Angelus character is a very interesting case study in that particular area. For that reason I always love when this character is front & centre.

Angelus is my favourite villain ever. He can go from being genuinely creepy to being utterly hilarious in a second. He's pure entertainment.

Also, just thought I'd link to this. One of the funniest fics I have EVER had the pleasure of reading. If you like Angelus, or Hell, just have a sense of humour, you'll crack up at this.

Wonderful fic. Love this line "So bored. Can't sleep. Smacked Spike around for a while, but I think he liked it."

I just died laughing. That fic is bloody hilarious! I love the big sire-the-school plan and then 'well, that didn't work'!
Are you kidding? Of course I like Angelus. One of the sexiest persons in the verse...well after Angel. That look, that attitude, those leather pants! OH MY!!!:hehe:

Ok seriously now...he is so evil and sadistically smart! No redemption for him!He is a real villain!

I was scared in s2, especially in Passion, I wonder how sweet David managed to be so malicious! And in s4 of AtS, i guess he got over the whole "Buffy made me more human, so let's destroy the world" thing, and he just was evil and manipulative! He has that amazing ability to get into others minds' and use their insecurities against them.

And about what Flannen suggested...if Angelus met a s6 Buffy willing to sleep with a vampire to feel sth, the series would be cancelled cause of the too much adult content!lol kidding! And there would be no Spuffy complications..." i don't love him, I use him it's killing me"

I personally loved the fish biting him! lol
Angelus is a brillant character played superbly by DB. One minute he is this sadistic villain who enjoys seeing people finding out the news about Jenny's death and the next he is like a comedy character making you laugh when he lures Buffy out in the open and tells her "you fall for it every single time".

Also love his relationship with Spike in season 2, provided some nice comedy to blend in with the dark and quite sinister nature of that series.

I like Angel in a way. Would I want to meet anyone like him? No. But he is interesting to watch. One of the most disturbing things about him is something someone already mentioned, that the evil comes so naturally to him.

I think he's very not sexy. 🙁

I've never really gotten how Angelus and Angel are alike, they seem so different to me. Angelus is more interesting to watch, but he was way more menacing in BtVS than he ever was in AtS. Except maybe that scene where the actress gives him the happy drug to momentarily turn him. (I love that scene.)

For me Angel and Angelus are two fragmented personas pertaining to the same person.

They merely surpress the other side of themselves when they are dominant.

Do I like Angelus? Yes but only as a part of Angel. I actually find the Angel with a soul more interesting. There are actually more facets to him. The darkness and rage and frustration as well as the insecurity, coupled with the idealism and heroism, fighting against a world of apathy and callousness.

This said, both Angel and Angelus are visionary artists. Angelus is a purist, of sorts: a saint of evil, believing wholeheartedly in the destruction he's causing. He's also a sadist and a narcissist. In fact in a way Angelus, like Liam is a sort of failed idealist who fails at love. All sentient beings in some way crave affection but Angelus is unable to love to be loved, not in a functional manner. So regarding this broken reflection of self he can only lash out in sadistic rage. His need to control and debase stems from the feeling of losing control (brought on by his father). His emotional torment of Buffy and Spike etc are about control and power.

I always saw Angel as Liam + Angelus. I think Angelus is a part of Angel, but Angel's not a part of Angelus.
I love Angelus. He is definitely my favourite villain. He's clever, manipulative and cunning. He's so cocky too, which is totally sexy. And leather trousers, anyone? 😉

I much prefer him in BtVS season two, I think DB lost a little bit of what made Angelus on AtS and I find it a little cringeworthy, but he still rocks.

I wish Angelus had met season six Buffy! 😉

Well he had no one to really play off of. Connor was a poor excuse for a rival compared to Spike. And Jasmine!Cordy was no contest compared to Buffy.

I don't think the failings of Angelus in Angel S4 were DB's fault at all. Bad writing IMO. That whole season was kind of stinky.

If S6 Buffy had hooked up with Angelus, it might have completely destroyed her. At least she had the upper hand with Spike despite her self-loathing. I can't imagine what a fling with Angel's evil twin would have done to her 🙁

Well, I did hear that he ad-libbed some of those lines himself, but I'm not sure if there's any truth to that.

I loved Angelus in BtVS. Well, I hated him, but in a good way. Especially in "Passion", after he murders Jenny and just smirks as he watches Buffy and Willow breaking down. I think his sheer sadism, and the effect he had on Buffy, made him the most compelling villain of the show's run.

I thought his return in the fourth season of AtS was a massive disappointment though. He lacked all of his old menace, and a lot of his dialogue was just plain bad.

Buffyverse Fan agrees: I always saw Angel as Liam + Angelus. I think Angelus is a part of Angel, but Angel's not a part of Angelus.

You can't really have one without the other Angelus can only manifest as a part of Liam's base personality which in turn informs Angel. They are all connected.

Darla: What we once were informs all that we have become...

...Or something along those lines.

If S6 Buffy had hooked up with Angelus, it might have completely destroyed her. At least she had the upper hand with Spike despite her self-loathing. I can't imagine what a fling with Angel's evil twin would have done to her

Well there is no way Angelus would allow himself to be used the way Spike did.

She would have been a play thing of his and it would have left Buffy very dead.

one of the few moments when I wholeheartedly agree to something you say about two characters play by DB and SMG, lol!
She would have been a play thing of his and it would have left Buffy very dead.

I don't know. 100% of the time, Angelus has let his "art" handicap him. Killing is a tiny portion of his shtick, it's mostly destroying his prey as a human being, corrupting them in some way.

Look at the battles he lost. If he went straight for the kill, he could have easily murdered all of the core characters. When Jasmine!Cordy locked herself in the cage, he could have either fed off of her through her arm, or just shot something into the cage.

Gunn, Wes, Fred, and even Connor would have been relatively easy kills for him. He literally had Giles in the palm of his hand. Instead of murdering Willow by sneaking into her room at night, he killed her fish instead...

And Faith, if he was simply trying to murder her, it would have been taxing, but he proved himself the better fighter twice in the S4 arc.

Suicidal S6 Buffy, yeah, straight on, Angelus would have demolished her, but if he began another torture campaign, the Scoobies would have ousted him...

Well yeah he never goes straight for the kill. He makes the whole situation some kind of art for him. Yeah I don't think he would allow s6 Buffy to use him...sorry to say this, no offense for Spike fans, but I can't see Angelus following Buffy around telling her how much he is obsessed with her...

Anyway, he would play with Buffy's mind and that would leave her into a much worse condition than she was already. If they got physical in the end he would turn her IMO.I think deep inside he always wanted to sire her, make her the thing she hates the most.

And I think Angel is Liam with Angelus memories, and of course add all the experiences he gained after the re ensouling. He has a demon inside him but his voice is very small compared to the soul's commands.
