Anyone watching for the first time?

Just wondering if anyone on the boards is watching BtVS and/or Angel for the first time?

When I was younger I used to watch the odd episode of the early "family friendly" version of Buffy when it was showing on BBC2 (back in the good old days) but i've only really got into watching it properly these last few months, so i'm still working my way through!

Am I the only first-timer or is anyone else in the same boat?

I'm at the end of season 4 on Buffy and halfway through season 1 of Angel 🙂 What about you?
 
All i can say is that your lucky in terms of not having seen all of Buffy and hardly any of Angel. Get ready for more some more thrills, emotional moments and just great episodes in general. :smile3:
 
I'm in about the same place 🙂 Just started Ep3 of S5 of Buffy, only watched one episode of Angel (I Will Remember You). I'm stuck on borrowing DVDs from friends cause SciFi channel only has series 1 - 3.
 
I'll be really sad when i've watched them all and there'll be no more new episodes.. but i doubt the sadness will last long when I start watching them all over again 🙂

Oh and im in the same boat as you Zotlot - I've only got about half of the show on VHS so I keep borrowing from friends and scouting out boxsets in charity shops 🙂 I dont even have the SciFi channel though 🙁

No new episodes, but the story continues in the comics if you're interested in reading those 🙂
 
I think once you've watched all of the episodes you do get a little sad. Watching re runs are all well and good but its nothing like watching something for the first time. I remember when i watched the show as it aired in the UK, you really felt apart of the story because you didn't know what was coming next. Once that feeling leaves you then it isn't as enjoyable, well for me it isn't.
 
Yes, I'm watching for the first time. I saw my first episode at the end of 2008, as many people on the internet had raved about the show, so I asked for the Buffy S2 box set for Christmas ('cos it had twice the amount of episodes as S1). I loved it immediately, and bought S3 almost straight away. Monetary issues have slowed down my watching somewhat, but I know own and have seen all seasons of Buffy and Angel except for S5 of Angel.

Yeah I think I probably will give them a go when i'm finished - not really sure how you get hold of the comics though.. Do you have to order them?

True, you can't be a part of the hype and all the unknown that comes with watching a show as it comes out, but I don't think that all the excitement and interest goes away.. especially if you do something like this forum - it's the fans that keep a show alive and breathing, so even if you missed it the first time round, you can still enjoy the experience with like-minded people 🙂

And re-watching shows isn't so bad - sure, the intriuge of the unknown has gone but sometimes you can get a lot more out an episode the second time around, where you notice little details that passed you by before and your understanding of subtle significancies is much more acute.
Plus if your memory is anything like mine, half the suprises can shock, even when you've seen them before!

But still, I do worry that there'll be a little hole in my world when i've seen all the episodes.. even if it carries on in comic, we'll probably never see those faces we've grown to love from the buffyverse, on the screen again. Wow, how depressing.. :sad26:
 
Don't get me wrong i still enjoy watching reruns as i've just said in another thread, but i can remember watching the show when it was airing and the feeling was different. Of course you didn't know what was coming but it was also you knowing that the cast were still together, other people in your family were interested, you could chat with friends etc. Ever since the show ended it seems most people have just forgotten about it, which sadens me.

Don't know if other people feel that way but to know the show was still being made was a great comfort and you felt apart of the journey. Now the journey is over if like me you don't follow the comics.

On a brighter note this forum is great for chatting with people who still love the show so its a nice consolation in that sense. :smile3:

I do understand what you mean - although i didn't follow BtVS when it was first on the telly, i've had the same experience with other much-loved shows in the past, so i completely know where you're coming from. Although it can be frustrating having to wait for a week for the conclusion of a two-parter or even waiting months for the next season, the gap is great for building up your anticipation and excitement as, like you said, you talk about it with your friends and wonder what will happen next.. It's a lot like christmas really!

I agree about it being sad that most people seem to have forgotten about Buffy. I wish they'd show the series again on public tv, because there's a whole new generation who've never even heard of it before and a whole load of people who i'm sure would welcome it back as an old friend 🙂 This show could be huge again 😀
 
I'm kiiiinda watching it for the first time. I was a huge fan right from the very beginning, but I was only like 7 when it started, so not much was retained! 😛 And I only watched up to...mid season 6, I think, the first time around. So I remember most of the big stuff that happened, but watching it again over the past few months has been awesome, I just finished season 5 right now. It has quickly become all I want to do during the day, I've completely fallen in love with it all over again. heart heart
 
On Friday i watched 4 episodes in a row then shortly after just watched episodes on the internet. I'am definately in a phase at the moment where i'am obsessed and its making it difficult for me to enjoy other shows :biggrin3:
 
I know what you guys mean about the obsession factor. It's so addictive... I just sit down to watch one episode and when it ends i think oh.. just one more episode wouldn't hurt.. and then bam its 5 hours later and i've spent the whole day watching it! :tongue3:
 
I've been on GELLARTUBE.ORG watching old interviews for hours. The obsession doesn't seem like ending anytime soon :biggrin3:
 
Oh nice, I had no idea about that site. Cause I just wasn't wasting enough of my time on all things Buffy related. 😉 But seriously yeah, when I'm done rewatching again I don't think I'm gonna know what to do. I don't think I know how to live normally anymore! But whatever. Being sick is an acual good excuse for laying in front of the tv all day. =)
 
I just started watching thanks to the series' recent airing on the LOGO channel. I've never been so addicted to a television program until now. I used to kind of laugh at the show before I ever really watched it. I had no idea how great it truly was. I rushed out and bought the entire DVD collection. 144 episodes later, here I am. I rarely watch anything else.
 
OH HOW I wish I were watching them for the first time ....unfortunately I'm on my 4th time around with buffy and now I've gotten my 7 and 10 yr old neices into it. which is kind of exciting, I get to see their reactions to stuff that I still love, laugh, and cry to, to this day. They come by everyday after school to watch 2 episodes and they are absolutely loving it ^_^
