The Yo-Yo bug has bit my son! Yesterday was his birthday and I got him the yo-yo in the video below. We're going camping for a few days and I think he's going to teach me how to do a trick or two.

So.... anyone yo-yo?

I had a yo-yo as a kid. I wasn't very good at it. The best trick I could do was accidently hit people in the face with it.. including myself. 🙄

SEE SEE PROOF! IT WILL HAPPEN!
I used to be nice with a yo-yo when I was around 11...then I relized how much more fun girls were 😛 but seriously you should get into it with your son cause that will be real cool for him.

Well, girls are fun, but I've got my son convinced they still have cooties. He just turned 10. When he gets a little older he'll probably ditch the yo-yo and use that PR charm on the ladies. 😉

Lol haha yep
I'm no master, but I can yoyo ^_^. I know both Ann and Joe from the video too... If you are looking for suggestions for yoyo tricks or forums about that, or suggestions on what yoyo to buy, let me know 🙂

You know both Ann and Joe??? Amazing!! They are incredible!! I got my son the yo yo they are using in that video, which is a $45 Yo Yo Factory yo yo. I think I might pick one up for me. Both my son and I need to work on our binding, but it looks like so much fun. They are so different from yoyos from my childhood.

Do you have a different suggestion for a beginner's yoyo? I want it to be an unresponsive yo yo

The general opinion is to get a responsive yoyo when you first start out, otherwise you get really bad form later on. That aside, any of the yyf's will be pretty decent. any of the Yoyojam's in the 40$ price range are great, the hitman or darkmagic for example are really good. I guess another question is, what are your thoughts on the size, would you like a smaller diameter yoyo? or a larger one? a wider one? etc... There is also a difference in the bearings, there are small bearings and large bearings. And then of course there are differences in colors... 😛

edit: oh! if you want a responsive yoyo, a yyj kickside/journey/lyn fury/legacy or yyf velocity are all good, and about 15-20$

edit2: also, theres a wicked huge yoyoing scene in nocal, with like meetups and stuff, tons of talent out that way, if you are interested 🙂

I remember being a kid and watching the smothers brothers show cause one of them could yo yo really well.

I learned to yo-yo when I was 14. Now I do it every time I even see a yo-yo.

On a slightly related note, I saw this title on this board and my mind went straight to a kind of adorable video on the James Marsters and Son youtube. Behold, Sullivan Marsters' yoyo.
