That's a very lovely thought. Xander's couch/bed fits about anybody.

I guess I said it wrong. I brought up the example of being told I have no sense of humor not because I thought anything was happening to me. It's just what I thought was the gist of the comment 'lighten up' - and I didn't see why Silverspike in particular needed to lighten up. His post seemed mellow - he said he didn't like practical jokes.

I found the whole thing entertaining, but i don't see why anyone who didn't needs to be told that they should have.There were all sorts of reactions - that's to be expected.

Nothing wrong with not finding jokes funny. I get it's not everyone's cup of tea. And honestly, we done this dance here before. No matter what the joke is there is always someone who is offended. You just can't please everyone.

I think that post was singled out with the "lighten up" thing because there was constant insistence that it was malicious or something that is a real possibility. Neither of which is true. I mean, think about it logically for a minute, the Spuffy forum is by far our most popular and active shipping forum and Spike is a main character - there is no way that would be banned from the board. In fact The Lovers Walk Forum is set up just to give shippers a little corner to focus on that. Honestly, the boards would probably close down before a certain character was banned.

As far as the no sense of humor goes - that's a two way street. No one needs to have a sense of humors or appreciate pranks just like a couple people not understanding or liking them doesn't mean that they can't be made. Guess people just need to try and see it all sides.

Spuffy is most popular? Really? I don't think so. And spike a popular character? He was voted out pretty early in the March madness championships. And that's okay because I'm pretty comfortable in my ship. This was believable by many because of the frequent spike bashing that goes on

Personally so do I think it was a good one.
It is of course ridiculous that threads about Spike would be banned from the board.
But since he actually do cause some problems you can somehow still almost believe it when people starts talking and starts convincing each other.
That's a nice balance which can be hard to find. So good one there.

Must also say that I do think BB are quite brave with their April fools pranks.
This is not the first time the joke are designed to upset a lot of people that doesn't realize it's a a joke and that can always cause problems.

Not sure how many that run with it on purpose (Mr Pole I'm looking at you).
But I'm surprise that more aren't more careful with the judgments when others call April Fools early on.

Heh. Trust the BB to make the most of April 1st in as many time zones as possible. (For the record: When Buffy Summers posted, it was no longer March in my time zone.) When I saw the first few posts I was fooled, but as soon as I saw the first post calling April Fool, I blushed, facepalmed and decided to play along. Being easily fooled and easy to lead into a hefty debate myself, though, I do have sympathy for those of you who were fooled all the way.

I wish the weather would lighten up and remember that today is April 2nd. It is snowing. By the look of it now, we'll get at least a couple of inches. While it isn't at all unusual, I wish it would stop.

Of course it's a two way street - I just questioned why one person on that street was being pulled over and told to lighten up. I have no problem with you guys making a joke or pulling a prank. OTH - no problem with someone not liking it, if their distaste is expressed calmly and respectfully.

Yeah, and I probably should let it rest, but thetopher repeatedly insisting that Spike fans had brought this on themselves - and that a single Spike fan had pushed the board over the edge - was also problematic. It's that kind of assertion that made the threat seem credible and worrisome. So at least one other person took it quite seriously but was very pleased that this action was being taken. (Mod intervention noted and appreciated, btw.)

On the positive side, you do need a real threat for a decent April Fools joke - or it falls flat.
On the negative side some people did take it seriously.
And I do know that there is no way everyone will be pleased!

Dude, you've got to lighten up.

Maybe something to take on board for the future is that possibly this 'prank' didn't work for some of us because for some time now there have been tensions in certain quarters (remember the whole secret thread bit) and so some of us could have easily seen something like this as being a real policy.

But then as I said before I have never participated in pranks of this nature nor find them particularly amusing. It comes across as being on par with the sort of "stop hitting yourself' style of gag sadly.

But looking around thats obviously just me. 🙂

I didn't buy it in the beginning, but started doubting later during the day. I think what gave it away for me was Buffy Sumers not reacting to anything being posted throughout the day 😛😛😀😀.

But when the mod intervened, I stopped. The Spike-fan did not.
