Oh dear. Did they manage to fool you again? Well then kudos to the ones responsible and I hope everyone had fun or at least can see it that way now that everyone knows.

Since I'm not great at "playing" and it's no fun going into a threat shouting "It's aprils fool!" and kind of ruining it (which I guess some did anyway) I stayed away as soon as saw the thread. The question now is, is it worth going back reading the whole thread as pure enjoyment or will it just annoy me?

Yes this was a joke, but it has highlighted the issues that we do have between members and the Spike discussions. Spike and Spuffy is a popular discussion area (25% more threads in the Back Steps than in the Bangel area) but it's also one of the areas where the discussions either get personal or insulting, or both! Hopefully this will make everyone appreciate the fact that there are separate areas that can be safe places to discuss the ships.

Which is why I found this 'joke' to be a dodgy one as it was bound to anger/upset a few folks, and I for one find it difficult to wrap my head around why someone would think thats a great idea.

But then as I said before I find practical jokes a 'difficult' especially on the net where it's even harder to check If someone's sincere or not.

It's not surprising really. My sister is a Bangel shipper and she goes other places when she is in the mood to discuss that couple. I've tried to get her to join here just for some general talk about the shows (and more). I don't know how much she checked out about the forum really but what's been thrown at me is already too hardcore for her. I've had way worse in this fandom but I can understand her POV.

I just questioned why one person on that street was being pulled over and told to lighten up. I have no problem with you guys making a joke or pulling a prank.

Because after the truth was out, they were still making it about how terrible we were to do it. It was just a joke - fine if it's not your thing, but no need to make a big deal out of it. Hence, lighten up, it's not something to get worked up over, have some fun.
 

Maybe something to take on board for the future is that possibly this 'prank' didn't work for some of us because for some time now there have been tensions in certain quarters (remember the whole secret thread bit) and so some of us could have easily seen something like this as being a real policy.

The entire point of this day is to catch people believing something is real. And then less than a day later, they find out it's not. Again, we're talking about a message board here. Let's have some perspective.

And I'm sorry, but you do not get to pass judgement on "tensions" - when I tried to bring the involved parties together to try and talk it out, you chose not to participate. At least I try - you've done nothing but come here and post negativity.

You've made your displeasure known, so could the thread not be spoilt for those who did enjoy it?

And certainly if you participated in the Buffies™ or the Reunion threads you bore witness to many people talk about the April Fools pranks. It's not like this was unprecedented.

@brinkster130 people believe a lie easier than they do the truth. It was hard though... I thought the jig was up when WA said that!
 
@brinkster130 actually flat earthers are a BIG movement already. I was surprised how many people support that theory.

I didn't participate because A) I didn't believe I could speak my mind without having someone taking it the wrong way. I figured that when some people have a fixed opinion about you nothing you can say is going to change that. B) It's now incredibly difficult for me to post on this board these days. I don't know what it is but I keep getting error messages and when I try and get on this site and when I do manage to post it's like typing in slow motion. So sometimes I just give up.

It's taking 6 goes just to edit this post!

People do need to get over this. I thought I was somehow partly responsible for this entire thing for about 16 hours- so much so that shyed away from the boards- and I still think its a funny/ballsy play to make. 🙂

Banning contentious characters- any contentious character- takes the fire out of things and is always gonna be a dumb move.
I like that Buffy and Angel have characters that get people talking and debating (as long as its all polite) and its one of the reasons I keep coming back to the Buffyverse.

Because when you get to the edge it would pull you back to the center. The illusion of roundness is due to the concave of the flat earth and 'wobbling' that it does.
