I was re-watching the Yoko factor and it got me thinking, are the Scoobies doomed to fall apart, or have a falling out with each other. The group was pretty solid in s1-3, than drifted in s4, got back to a closer group in s5, and drifted again in s6-7. Things seem to be even worst in the comics. What do you think the future holds for the gang?
I think they will continue on this cycle of falling out and coming back together. They've done a lot of really awful things to each other these past few season and they reunited in the end. I don't see that changing any time soon.
I don't see it as much falling apart as each pursuing his or her own specific destiny. They're friends, not Siamese quadruplets. Moving apart over the years is a totally natural thing. That doesn't mean that they have stopped caring about each or wouldn't come back together again if the circumstances required it.
Very few groups of high school friends, no matter how close, maintain their group integrity once they enter the adult world.

Although true, I think the second paragraph should almost not apply to the Scoobies because none of them have family, therefore they are more so family than friends, at least that's the way I see it.
I also agree with the first paragraph, but I'm not sure how true it is, just going by (s8 spoiler)
Giles dying
, and especially Buffy having never really mended her relationship with him prior to this, I have doubt as to whether or not they would come back together if the circumstances required it. Again spoiler for Angel and Faith
I haven't read Angel and Faith yet so I might be wrong, but isn't it Angel and Faith that try to piece back together Giles' soul, why not Buffy, Xander and Willow?
. I guess I'm missing a lot of info having read bits and pieces of the comic, so if I'm wrong just please disregard my post 😛
I think it's pretty realistic for a group of friends to face that issue. It's hard to keep up friendships when people's lives are drifting in different directions. That happening to the Scooby gang made sense, but in the end they are still bonded forever for the things they've been through. I don't follow the comics though but ya ;o

Yeah, you'd think it should have been the scoobies but it actually made perfect sense that it was those two, based on how that character died. The scoobies are also unaware of a mission to get him back.
BlazeThanks! I wasn't sure if my answer made sense lol I really need to catch up with the comic before I talk about them
Oh yes! I'd forgotten Willow knew, I'd imagine she wouldn't tell Buffy though in case it doesn't work. And I dont think Spike would tell Buffy for his own gain
Corruption. You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain, right? Buffy simply cannot get out of slaying, it's just what she is and she would go completely nuts without it. Willow won't leave her. She craves this shit just as much and there's always some action around Buff, besides, Buffy is the most important person in her life. Xander could leave one of them but he won't ever leave the both of them. The rest is just a matter of time. They will fall, they don't even have to be turned into vampires, but they will fall. And they will make awesome villains. Hopefully, without a redemption arc.
Ascension is an alternative but that's just so blah.

I don't think the Scoobies have fallen apart...they're just evolved, grown up, moved on. There's a lot a of water under the bridge, and they're not so young anymore. They might seem like they're lost touch with each other, but I think that's just a natural side effect of growing up and apart. They've always have a special bond, but their relationships with each other are complicated and strained... a lot has happened. They can't turn back time and erase what's happened. They're no going back. All I can hope is that they are able to re-connect in some way.
What do I think the future holds for the gang? If Dawn dies, or even if not, I could see Xander moving on and pursuing his own life. Giles is gone. Willow has already left town. Buffy will stay where she's needed, and keep fighting. Spike will come back, and they'll fight together, side by side.
