Are we finally running out of things to discuss?

I've been noticing over the last few weeks, maybe as far back as a couple of months now, that we seem to be discussing Buffy and Angel less and less around here.

Today, for example, I looked to see what new posts had been made and saw the same thing I've been seeing for quite a while now. There were about twenty new posts made with about fifteen or so of them in either the art or games sections of the board. The rest were mostly off topic threads with (I think) two actually relating to Buffy and Angel topics.

Now don't get me wrong, I love to see the artwork you guys post but as that is something I don't do myself it's not of major importance to me. I'm also not really into playing the games (again, not against it but not my thing personally). The off topic threads are usually interesting but I can discuss things like music, movies and general stuff with friends I socialise with in the real world.

My point being, have we now reached a point where there is nothing left to discuss in the Buffyverse? I've tried starting a few threads recently with topics that I thought were fairly new (or at least giving old topics a new angle) but there hasn't been much interest shown. Also, many of the newbies around here are starting topics that really have been talked to death over the years, leading to little or no interest again.

With that in mind, is it really a waste of money for Buffy Summers to keep a purely Whedon related board open now? If it's getting to a point where we rarely have anything left to talk about would it not be easier and cheaper for her to combine this board with After-Darkness, for example, and just have a smaller area for Buffyverse discussion?

I'm not saying that this is what I'd like to see happen, by the way. It's just something I've become aware of recently and wondered if anyone else had been thinking the same.

i don't think this has anything to do with us not wanting to dicuss the shows anymore...i mean, we wouldn't still be here, right?
i think it has more to do with the fact, as you said, old subjects being raised again and again. not many people wanna discuss Bangel vs Spuffy anymore.
i think the holidays havea alot to do with it as well. this time of year, many people come online to cool their jets and relax...not many want to have to think about some subject or another.
not that this is me, personally, but i'm just saying, maybe that's how people are feeling right now.

It will be good to have a little new material to discuss. I'm just hoping that there are enough of us reading the comic series to make it really work. No doubt there will be a lot less people following the comic than those that watched the show.

Yeah, Lyri, I totally agree that it isn't a matter of not wanting to discuss the shows anymore. That's sort of the problem though. No matter how much we all love Joss' work, there is only so much you can say once the material stops coming. The comics may help to an extent. I guess we will see when the time comes.

It does appear to me, at the moment at least, that we aren't really coming here to discuss Buffy though. It's more about just staying in contact with the friends we have made around here. That's what got me thinking that having this entire board dedicated to just these specific shows was a waste of money for Buffy Summers when the amount of actual Buffy talk going on could be done just as easily in a Buffy/Angel section at After-Darkness.

maybe you're right, Arcane, so i think we should turn this thread into a sort of 'What can we discuss?' thread.
we can come up with some new ideas for topics and keep the board alive!

Well I think one of the problems is that we have so many members each with different opinions and some peoples opinions get lost in the thread when so many people posting.

One thing we were thinking for the interdorm awards were debates, where a person from each house would debate for people in their house, on common issues discussed like Bangel vs Spuffy or Did spike rape buffy. And everyone in the house did the research and gave opinions to their rep who would use their points in the debate? Do you think that would work, or be any good?

Personally, I enjoy the community we have here and it would be great if there was to be more Buffy/Angel output to discuss (and I will definitely be looking out for the comics) but if there isn't, fair enough...it's Buffy Summers dime, shilling (insert local currency cost of a phone call 🙂), so I guess the BB goes on for as long as she wants it to continue...from what I've seen we're one of the few active Buffy/Angel boards still going that doesn't restrict membership...I'm looking at you Whedonesque 😉...but then again, I don't get out much to other boards 😉

i like your idea, BEG, the only thing that concerns me slightly, is very opinionated people getting a tad carried away if the debate isn't going their way. but, i don't know, it mgiht just work. maybe we should have a trial run?

Absolutely agreed. I hope nobody is getting the wrong idea in what I'm saying here. I think that this is a fantastic place to hang out (virtually speaking) and I'm not actually suggesting that it be closed down. Far from it. This place is great for keeping me sane when I'm working late at night. Taking a break and coming here to see what is being talked about helps keep me awake too. 🙂

I'm simply playing devil's advocate in suggesting that maybe we have reached the point where having this entire board for a specific couple of series may now be a little pointless if we can no longer keep the various sections active.

Obviously, at the end of the day this place lives or dies on what Buffy Summers chooses to do and I'm certainly not trying to suggest to her that this place is no longer needed. My only real suggestion, should she see this thread, is that maybe the Buffy and Angel seperate season sections could be merged into just one section for the entire series of Buffy, one for Angel and then move the After-Darkness shows to this board as well. That way there would be a lot more activity in all sections and I would imagine that it would be considerably cheaper.

Sounds like a pretty good idea, BEG. It would obviously depend on getting enough people willing to do the research, not to mention finding a spokesperson who can keep their opinions in check (good point, Lyri, hehe) but it might just work.

Once the new Buffy comics come out, perhaps that will spice things up, being that they're the closest we'll have to new canon Buffyverse stuff, at least for the forseeable future.

I have seen a lack of meaty topics lately, but it would be nice to see things going agian, ( i hope that the C.o.A sit never happens here) don't get me wrong i love it here and it is a better forum than some i've been on, and with the comics comming up soon i'm sure that there will be much to discuss.

We could come up with what would happen in a parelell Angel/Buffy verse ideas?

I understand that has been said in all comments. But surely you guys havent talked about EVERYTHING Buffy/Angel related? I havent read every comment posted on here as i'm still relatively new on here. But i would love to get into any sort of discussion/debate/whatever youwant to call it. (I'm not that good with putting my thoughts into words lol. it kinda gets all jumbly 🙂) sorry if I'm not helping much here but the reason i started visiting here was to find out what other people thought about Buffy. Nobody I know actually talks about it as much as I do. they think I'm a geek or something. I am more than interested to read what all you guys think though.....

Nearly, i meant an the alternative universe, like what if Darla was never bought back or what if Cordy never got possessd. You have some good ideas though, Lyri we could discuss that lack of crossovers in Season six/three of Angel, and discuss what may have happend, when Buffy met up with Angel too, i'm keen to do that.

I figure if Slayage is still putting out journals there are new things to discuss. I am new here and maybe I have posted on things done to death but what I loved about Buffy were the less than obvious themes of the show that get kinda overlooked here. IMO. Perhaps we can have more discussions based on the Slayage articles. Sort of like a Buffy "book club" of sorts.

Or whaT ABOUT discusiions really based on the buffy books, I know they are not cannon, but they are fun and may spark some good conversations.

Or maybe we can all watch the same episodes each week (month?) and collectively discuss the various themes presented.

there is actually threads for discussing both episodes and the books. you have to join the discussion group for those, which i think you can find in your User CP, if my memory serves...someone correct me is i'm wrong, please?

BTW, has anyone else ever wondered if there were any more Vengance demons in the verse?
