For some people, getting old means coming closer to death.
For others, it's time to be free to do your stuff: take a cruise, play with the grandchildren, play Bridge, and enjoying your life as much as possible before you die.

There are many reasons why we're afraid of getting old, or can't wait to get old.
Are you afraid of getting old? How do you see yourself as a old person?

When it comes to looks...I don't really care, but I'm not looking forward to any health issues. Ugh. I might live pretty long, I mean my great grandma is 98 years old 😀 I'm not sure if I want to live that long though. Hmm. I'd prefer not to live alone. She does, and she lives across the country, and she's always so sad when we leave 🙁.

And about worrying that I won't finish everything I want to do before I die...I don't have to be old to worry about that stuff. I worry about it all the time now. I had a mid life crisis when I was 15. Ugh.

your great grandma-it breaks my heart :(
Definitely, I'm 20 now and I just want to stay this age forever.
Getting old is totally scary to me, I want to have the whole family/children thing, but I just want to stay young.

I'm pretty excited about it. I turn 30 this year and I'm not at all dreading it. I've done a lot of really cool things so far and have a lot of really cool things still left to do. In the end, I hope to retire in some beachy community with my sweet hubby and spend the rest our time relaxing together! And grand babies! I love this toddler and baby time with my kid, soon to be kids and I am hopeful to experience it again to some degree when Aiden and Sophie have their own kids! I'm so excited about the future!

Sophie is a great name! (I'm Sophie, too! ;) )
Yes, I am afraid of getting old. It's not so much the fact that I'm closer to death that scares me it is the losing your memory and the control of your body that scares me. Not being able to take care of myself is a scary thought.

I completely agree, my grandma is going through that. She has alzheimer's and we had to put her into a home last February. Its awful to watch her go from a really strong person to how she is now.

I was talking to my grandad, who is in his 80's and he was saying how he doesnt view himself as old. He still leaves the front seats vacant on the bus so ''the old dears'' can have a seat 🙂

I'm not scared of going up to 60 but 60+ yer petrified lol. I don't wanna loose my mind any more than i have already lol and I dont wanna be in a home for the elderly etc etc.

I agree about the Alzheimers issue too. My Grandad had it and it was so sad to see him like that. I think that's the thing I fear most, not knowing who I am or my family. I'm not bothered about getting old, personally I think it's a blessing in a way because far too often you read/hear/know about people that never make it to the adult life let alone get old. I wil take it as it comes I think you're not properly old til you're at least 70 🙂

Yeah sometimes. I get odd bursts of terror every now and then at the prospect of death but I think that's fairly normal really. It does feel like time moves too quickly sometimes though, I'm nearly 20 and yet still feel 17. Dreading going into my twenties, just feels too old.

I'm not looking forward to having to step into the real world and work every day, especially as it's not exactly easy to get a job at the minute. I'm looking forward to living alone though, that independence will be scary but nice.

So far, getting older has meant finding my feet more and more, getting more sure about what's important to me and better at doing it. If that's what the mental part of getting older is about, I don't dread it at all.

Yes. Even though in my head I have this whole life I envision myself ahving, kids, husband, but in real life and this is probably really morbid but I have this feeling like I wont live long enough to have all that.

No. It wasn't too long ago that I was under the impression that, because of my physical ailments, I wouldn't live past 30 or so. It's comforting to know that isn't true. I hate the thought of not being able to take care of myself, that scares me more than anything else...But I'm going to have a taste of that soon, for at least a year, so that fear is going to have to be dealt with. At any rate, it isn't all old people who have to be taken care of, I've met some pretty spry grannies 😛

I'm not afraid of getting old... its just a natural process, i look forward to it honestly. What i'm afraid of is what comes after death. Does life just stop completely. Are you just fully non existant. Do you know you dont exist, do you feel, see, smell... is there another side really. Are you reincarnated to start life again. So many questions no one knows. Do you walk the earth forever silently, no one knowing your there? -shrugs- its the unknown of what is after death i definately fear, not the moments leading up to it.

I'm not afraid of it. I accepted (when I was in Sixth Grade, actually... I always was one of those deep-thinker kiddos that nobody wanted to hang out with 😛 😀) that I was going to die and get old, so I just decided that I want to enjoy what I have.

lol same here. :)
Heck, a lot of you would consider me old. I'm just in denial. I'm nowhere near 60 yet though so white avenger would probably call me a youngling.

Afraid of getting old(er), not so much. Really not liking the idea of not being able to take care of myself, most definitely. The thing is. That can happen at any age and there's "old" people enjoying life alot even past 70 so I don't see it as an age thing as such.

I'm already having the body of someone older than my real age and it sucks. I'm sure it's going to get worse in time but I'll worry about that when it happens.

I love the thought of getting old. I wanna be 70 right now, in a rockin chair, on my porch, with my dog. News papers and tea will be my life. Love it.

Afraid of getting old? Pfffft, I'm already THERE. There's nothing to it, kiddos! Nothing to it at ALL. Body starts to make little popping sounds when you get out of bed but that's nothing. It'll be ALL RIGHT.

I say we conga!! 😀 😛😛

Cha-cha-cha! (that was conga music, if you weren't sure. :p :D)
I'm looking forward to it! I love being young and I love the idea of being old, it's just the bit in the middle I'm worried about with all the bills and responsibility and whatnot! D: I'd rather stay a kid forever but the retirement side of life seems like a nice break after all of the middle stuff! I don't intend to 'grow up' as it were, just get old 😛
