Are you happy Sarah rejected "You're Welcome" appearance?

After re-watching "You're Welcome", I forgot how much I enjoyed this episode and it was always my favorite episode of the 5th season.

Personally as much as I love Bangel, I would have gotten sick of the Buffy/Angel/Spike love triangle that would have probably happened in "You're Welcome". I loved that there was a closure to Cordy's death.

Plus on a personal matter, I always get teary eyed whenever I see Cordy/Angel kiss and then Angel finds out that Cordy never woke up and it was her astral self
 
I am beyond relieved that Sarah turned down You're Welcome. It would have been completely wrong for the show and for her character for her to appear in the 100th episode.

Buffy has no place in the AtS world. She has never belonged in that world and she wouldn't fit. It would have had no significance to have her there (unlike having Cordy back, which makes perfect sense) and I shudder to think what it would have done to the Bangel dynamic, what with Spike being there and all. We probably would have had a repeat of Destiny.

So yes, very glad Sarah didn't appear. I'm a little appalled that Joss opted for Sarah first as opposed to Charisma.
 
Yes, "You're Welcome" is one of my absolute, all time favorite episodes. I wouldn't want it changed at all. The tie in with Doyle and Lindsey was just perfect, and the ending, like you said, it one of the most emotional, powerful moments of any series I've ever seen.

That said, I did want Buffy in S5. I was really hoping she'd be there for the final episode (or at the very least a mention of her. An idea I had was, when Angel tells everyone to have their "last day", he and Spike both call her at different times of the episode, and all they get is an answering machine. Or for Angel, if maybe there was just a brief scene of him holding his clauddaugh ring and then slipping it on before the final battle. To be honest I kind of head-canon both of those. Just always seemed a little strange to me that at the end of the world, neither Angel or Spike were outwardly thinking of Buffy), although I was glad she wasn't in "The Girl in Question". I know people largely slam that episode, but I think it's one of the funniest of the series (it's Angel's humor at its best), and that it worked better without Buffy physically in it.
 
I was VERY glad she wasn't there! Also I was glad she wasn't in the finale. Although, I would have loved to see her maybe in the second to last episode, a bit like Angel coming back before "Chosen". It did feel a bit weird that we didn't even get an 'eh we're all going to die, Buffy should probably come visit to at least say good bye to two man that she arguably love''.

I know we got The Girl in Question (which was hilarious and made me appreciate Angel's and Spike's relationship, they act like brothers fighting over a girl, kind of adorable)! But I would have wished for you know, one final appearance.
 
I really enjoyed "Your Welcome" but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bummed to hear that SMG turned down making an appearance. I wouldn't say that having her in the episode would have made it better, but I would have been happy to see Buffy and Angel on screen together again.
 
I liked 'You're Welcome' for the episode that it is, but if SMG had agreed to do the 100th ep, that wouldn't have been the storyline we'd have ended up with, and this thread would probably been about the fact that no one ever mentioned Cordelia after S4.

I think Buffy should have had at least some sort of part in S5. And not that god-awful dubbed version of her we got in 'Soul Purpose'.

This was the end of the Buffy!verse on TV, there was no mention of the comics as of yet, so, for many people, this was all they were gonna get. So, seeing as how the Buffy!verse started with, you know, Buffy, I thought she deserved to be better represented than how she was. Hating Angel and his team, partying it up in Rome with the Immortal - for those people who don't read the comics, this is their last impressions of the person they started watching this verse for. And it was a really crappy impression.

I don't think she deserved to be in the finale. This was Angel's show and the ending show have been about him and his team. If Buffy came in, the attention would have immediately been on her, because you can't have Buffy Summers as a background character, it just doesn't work.

But I would have liked something better than what we got. Not saying that she should have been chosen over CC, because I think Cordy deserved a send off, but something. Anything, lol.
 
I think "You're Welcome" was a lot better with Cordelia in it instead of Buffy. We got a beautiful sendoff to a beloved character, whereas with Buffy, they could have never had the same emotional punch.
 
If 'I Will Remember You' hadn't featured in season 1, I think it would have been (with a few tweaks) an excellent 100th episode and a rather bitter-sweet way to round off the Buffy/Angel storyline.
 
"You're Welcome" was definitely Cordy's episode. Buffy couldn't have delivered the same message from the same prospective, and, short of having Spike significantly missing for th entire episode, the Spuffy/Bangel issue would have detracted from the main story line. Cordy was always the one who helped Angel keep his focus, who always pointed out what he was doing wrong, and who always brushed aside all of his bull**it to get to the truth. All that Buffy ever did when Angel screwed up was ram a sword into his chest and send him off to hell.

And ONLY Cordy could have delivered that, "Aw, hell. One for the road" line so well.

It just wasn't a Buffy/Angel scene.
 
Well, I have to imagine that it would have been a much different episode if they had kept the version of it written for Buffy. I really like the episode that was made and think that Cordelia needed her goodbye moment and a return to her form from before Season 4, so...

Yes and no. Kind of hard to give a simple answer to that question.
 
We can only guess what the episode had been like if Sarah had been in it. So I can't say if I'm happy, or sad, that she turned it down. I can easily say though that I love the episode as it is now and I'm happy about that.
 
I'm glad SMG turned it down because I really liked the episode just as it was with Cordy saying her goodbyes. It was a powerful episode and really sad too. But I do wonder that if SMG made the appearance instead of having Cordy come back, how would they have dealt with Cordy's death or her coma? Just never mention her again? Or would it just have been a brief phone call at the end of some other episode saying that she'd passed away? IMO, they needed this episode to give some sort of closure to Cordy's character. Without it, it would not have done justice to such a great character.

Instead of repping Lyri, I'm quoting her entire post, because it deserves to be said twice lol. I do love You're Welcome, and I adore Cordy in AtS and miss her terribly in season 5. So I wouldn't change You're Welcome, not one bit. But I do wish we could've seen SMG toward the end of season 5. I can't say it better than Lyri. 😀
