This episode is soo overrated. Sure, its a good ep, but it isn't the best Angel epi.(Yes, yes, I have absolutely nothing constructive to add, what's your point, jew?)

This is definitely one of my favorite episodes. Sometimes I think it is my favorite...I mean, I don't really have ONE episode I can think of that I like better...so I will have to say this is my favorite.

Yeah, I'm confused.

Anyway, as already mentioned, I love the themes. I loved the acting. Yeah, the special effects were really funny, but that is part of the campiness that I fell in love with in regards to Angel and Buffy. The fact that episodes like this can bring home a powerful message and a whole lot of emotion while still being pretty darn campy says a WHOLE lot to me.

And with regards to the woman who was still alive...I think the demon, who can obviously manifest it's self and has some sort of powers, must have kept her alive. He was keeping her around in the living so he could feed off her...like a parasite having a pet.

I totally agree with you.....I think he just kept her around to feed off of her....very well done episode!!:cheering:

 

[Fallen Angelus]

I thought it was one of the better episodes of Season 2. It's one of my favorites, for all the reasons that others have stated.

As for Judy, I always assumed that the demon kept her alive somehow to feed off of her energy. Didn't he say something to Angel about her paranoia in the '50's?

I liked this episode. I thought it was neat how Angel had already been in that hotel. I also love episodes that go back in time and deal with an issue that Angel was in.

I thought the ending was sad but I was mad that they 'killed' Angel by hanging him!

Overall this was one of my top 20 favorite Angel episodes.

i think it is a great episode! plus, tim minear was involved in it which is always great... as for the woman, i think the demon kept her alive... you know, all that paranoia and guilt for being the cause of angel's death made her delicious for the demon...

I liked this ep alot. I love the nod to Rock Hudson as well. I love glimpses into Angel's past as well. 🙂 Not the best in the world, certainly not the worst though.

It was hilarious!!! But turning on Angel like that .. so not cool. That stupid woman deserves -forever hell- !!

I like it because it shows the beginning of Angel trying to be a hero but at this point he has little faith in humanity. However 50 years later he's not the same person.

I really loved this episode! One of the best standalones all season 🙂 The flashbacks were done very, very well and Tim Minear is like the Joss of Angel, writing even better episodes than Joss, himself! Imo, Tim and Jeffery Bell are the Joss of Angel. And this really shows it. The introduction of the Hyperion was done very, very well. I loved it 🙂

Just like Angelus told Faith when she was inside his consciousness, Angel is just a facade, an attempt by something not human to blend in with humanity. When he said, "Take them all," Angelus resumed control, if only for a short time. That moment of weakness probably was the cause of Angel being in the gutter eating rats when Whistler found him.

Whether Angel "went dark" or simply let his beast take control is just a matter of semantics, I guess, but it makes Angel seem a little better if we can blame it on Angelus rather than some dark side of a champion.

I think the Angel we see in this ep and later eps is a man completely disillusioned with humanity. As human he was a waster, hated his father and generally played the part of the rake to perfection...John Wilmot would have been proud. For a hundred years he was the most savage animal to terrorise Europe. Then his soul is restored by humans, an unbelieveable cruel act by anyone and he is left alone, he doesn't belong to any world. He tries both out and neither fits. It is only when he meets Buffy that he starts to hope, she anchored him to the human world and the good fight. As much as his gang tried, they couldn't do that for him and he lost that hope again. Two and a half centuries without hope would give you a dark side too.

True. Oh so true, Keanoite. And after he meets one person that trusted him and was nice to him, sorta like Buffy, she betrayed him to save her own ass after he helped her so much. He realized that humans were a very flawed race and had enough with it. I agree he had a dark side, just see mid-Season 2!

There isn't a person in the Buffyverse who doesn't...Angel and Angelus are different people. Angel can have his dark side and Angelus can have a softer side, I don't think they are different sides of the same coin at all.
