At first glance, it looks like a typical varsity football yearbook photo: Red Mountain High School players posing side-by-side with senior Hunter Osborn blending in with the crowd.
That is, until the school released the yearbooks to students, who noticed something school staff and yearbook editors had apparently hadn’t: Osborn was exposing himself.
Court documents obtained by 12 News state that Osborn “exposed his penis through the top of his waistband of his football uniform.”
Once school leaders found out, they notified Mesa Police and Osborn was charged with one count of furnishing harmful items to minors -- which is a felony -- and 69 counts of indecent exposure, one for every person who was there when the picture was taken, which are misdemeanors.
Mesa Public School leaders sent a statement to 12 News that stated in part, “While the small size of the photograph as published makes the details difficult to discern, the yearbook has been recalled so the school can make a minor but critical edit for the inappropriate content.”
“It's kind of hard to see unless you know what's going on,” said student Zach Anthony.
According to Mesa police, Osborn -- who is 19 year old now, but was 18 at the time the picture was taken -- admitted to exposing himself on a dare from another player.
Documents show he told police he was, “disgusted by what he had done.”
A total of 250 pre-order yearbooks went out before anyone caught the photo.
The picture is also in a football program that was sold at games.
“I think they're a little harsh and unfair for probably something he regrets now,” said student Brooke Bodrero.
