So, how come at least one single vampire never thought to wear some sort of stake proof armor? It can't be from lack of intelligence. ALL vampires can't be too stupid to have ever thought of it. Sure, there are other ways of dusting vamps in the Whedonverse, but the plain ol' wooden stake is by far the most preferred method of just about everyone on both shows. If nothing else, it would have made an interesting plot twist, and could be played easily as either a serious scene or a bit of light comedy tossed in somewhere.
 
LOL yeah makes sense but I guess it would poke to much fun at itself by showing how easily the slayer problem could be solved or atleast cause major problems.
 
Then it would become like Blade where everyone is shooting silver bullets :sick:
I mean, Blade is a great movie don't get me wrong but it's just not Buffy style. There have been many discussions on guns and their role in Buffy :happy07:

The slayer is supposed to have a more classic legend feel I guess than modern (that's where Riley and the Initiative come in).

That's simple. Buffy. If Blade ever tried to hurt her, Spike and Angel would team up and field dress him like a deer. Then they'd get in a fight over who hurt him the most, and Buffy would walk away laughing.
Didn't one of the members of The Three have some armor? It was like the stake just went through it like it was butter. Like he wasn't even wearing any.

I do think it was only chainmail, but that stuff was make to avert a lot of things that are tougher than wood. She'd at least have a harder time with it. Or something.

She didn't kill any of them. Darla did, and I think they didn't have their armor on anymore... Or she hit them from the back and there was no protection there or something.

Oh yea - there were a couple of times where a vamp was either too strong or had some armor that she couldn't pierce with a stake. She'd just realize that she has to stab harder next time, or drop the vamp onto a wooden spike on the ground 😛 (or cut its head off.)
 
Well... aside from Sunnydale (or wherever the current Slayer resides), LA (when Angel's around) and any other place boasting a 'rogue demon hunter', vamps probably don't have too much to worry about in terms of getting staked.

And I think there's enough canonical evidence to suggest that the SunnyD vamps were, on the whole, pretty stupid, so the thought probably didn't occur to them. 😛
 
And why didn't a bad guy get a machine gun and spray the Magic Box? I don't know. Stuck in the old days I suppose. Plus...would be less exciting. Maybe they just like to be traditional.

I wondered this too, For $5000~, I would totally be springing for some dragon skin, with optional neck/groin protection. Then again, there are a only a handful of slayers, and vampires are pretty much impervious to everyone else, so the hassle to reward ratio they probably figured to be too low to justify the expense/weight/inconvenience, plus for the most part, stab proof/bullet proof vest aren't that stylish, which seems to be a pretty major concern ;P
 
Agree with everything everyone has said...

But I would like to have seen maybe just one opening teaser that specifically addresses this. Joss is always good at making fun of himself a little, or the genre, and self consciously pointing out the obvious from time to time. (Like "why is there suddenly a mansion in Sunnydale?" "Shouldn't a strong vampire be able to use Buffy's weapon against her, at least once?" "Wouldn't the government notice what was going on and want to get in on the action...")
So in keeping with that, we should have seen exactly that: Buffy aims for the heart but there's metal there, and she can't get the stake through.

Also, a lot of the vamps she faces are literally rising for the first time when she meets them, so that cuts down on a large percentage of the creatures who could arm themselves ahead of time. But, still.
 
A lot of good points have been brought up in this thread. I think that the chances of vamps arming themselves would increase after season 7 when there are quite a few more than "a handful" of slayers around 😛
