As You Were...thoughts on Mrs. Finn?

I couldn't see a bitch like her getting married.
Now I'm getting way off topic but considering all the jerks I see get married, and surprisingly many to people way better than them (in my opinion) nothing like that surprises me. Not that I think mrs. Finn is that bad. But even if I did it wouldn't surprise me. And since she and Riley have a few things in common I wouldn't say it's strange. Felt a bit fast, especially for Riley as we know him. But hey, some people get married within a week...

I thought the same, their marriage seemed very rushed as Buffy and Riley had only been seperated for about a year maybe a little less. It seemed like Riley took months to get over their split leaving the rest for him to get together with Mrs Finn (her character name escapes me). Either way I found her ok but nothing thrilling, she seemed more Riley's type in the way of a strong woman who can fight and won't shut him out. They seemed suited, just the ending with them getting on a helicopter ladder, that seemed a bit cheesy for me.

The timeline really bothered me.
A year, and Riley had time to get over Buffy, meet this new chick, and marry her?
Riley, who talks about "courting a girl" and who knew Buffy for months before kissing her?
Just doesn't make sense.

However, this:
Then, just a few months later, that little Peace Corps girl is GI Jane, who somehow outranks Riley (Buffy: "So, you take orders from him?" Sam: "He wishes!" The only way that Sam could not be required to obey Riley's orders would be if she had equal or greater rank than his own, which would be impossible if she were the new recruit that she claims to be.
could be explained by Sam having a higher rank than Riley....or it could just mean, he outranks her professionally, but she wears the pants in the relationship so to speak. And from what we know of Riley, that's not too hard to believe.
I definitely think there's something off about this episode. But I'm just not sure that point ^ fits.

Even he told the truths, Riley always had a complex about his-self. He couldnt except the relationship between Buffy and Angel -or lets say Buffy and a vampire-. So his reaction for Spuffy wasn't a big suprise.
He had a past with Buffy's vampire lover(s).

There's this blog post about the episode that I read (I got the link from somewhere around here) that I really loved. It more or less filled in the plotholes by saying basically what White Avenger said, that Riley was setting Spike up from the beginning to "show" Buffy how wrong she was. I think the poster went as far as to say that he planted the eggs--which honestly, I think makes more sense than Spike having them. If he'd been the doctor, which I doubt, he would have known how to take care of the eggs. After all, when they hatched, his ass would be on the line too, and when have we known Spike not to indulge in self-preservation?

If he really was holding the eggs and Riley didn't put them there, then I still doubt Spike's the doctor. The real doctor probably offered Spike a ton of money to keep the eggs--but then, why wouldn't he tell Spike how to take care of them if he was going to sell them to other countries? Unless someone was hoping that the eggs would hatch and expose another someone for being evil. Hmm....

And this is probably just my Spike-fangirl showing, But I sympathized pretty heavily with Spike in that last scene. The night before this big declaration and break-up, Buffy asked him to tell her he loved her and wanted her, and then they proceeded to sleep together in a much calmer, gentler way than they had before. Way to toss the guy a bone and then snatch it away, don't you think?

I don't believe Buffy was wrong to end it, but I don't think it's as simple as, "He was evil so she did the right thing." She was hurting him, so she did the right thing.

Anyway, Sam to me was a little unimportant in this episode--she felt more like a plot device than an actual person. She was awesome, everyone loved her, Riley was happy and married and living the dream. And meanwhile, Buffy's life was in shambles. Sam was just there to maintain the idea that Riley had found what he was looking for, while Buffy was still pretty damn lost.

This episode is the only episode in which Riley didn't annoy the crap out of me. lol. I didn't mind Sam either. I think their a good couple.

I couldn't stand the actress at all!!! Her "acting" was terrible!

The character was a great idea. Just couldn't get over the actress. BLECH!

Lol very true.
She seemed way too much of a plain goody two shoes, be cool if they had made her the big bad of a season

Mrs. Finn?
I couldn't see a bitch like her getting married.

Really? I don't see anything wrong with her. She was in the peace corps, then she dedicated her life to protecting people? Hm. Plus she was extremely nice and understanding, and very good for Riley.

I didn't think the actress was too bad, I kind of liked her.

I thought she was actually quite nice, it was hard to hate her.

LOL at Willow,
" What a bitch."

i didn't like her.
she was way too nice
and i think it's just weird that Riley was all like "im so in love with you buffy" and then comes back just a year later marrried/ i would understand is he was dating, but married! he moves on fast

Actually, my ex did that. Sometimes loosing what you have can open your eyes to what you need.
I liked seeing Riley again. It gave me more closure. Fun fact though, I was reading one of those "Based on the TV series Buffy Books". I can't remember who the author was, but I don't think it was Christopher Golden or Nancy Holder or any of the main authors. Anyways, in the book it tells us how Riley and Sam died in a helicopter crash. The book was really wharped and confusing but I always thought it was a little weird the author killed them.

I have to say i really liked Sam, she was one of those people who was just so sweet that nomatter what you just cannot hate her! (well i couldn't anway)
It did make me sad because you could tell that although Buffy was sleeping with spike she still had feelings towards Riley and it was tearing ehr apart inside to see him so happy with someone so nice.

Tough, strong, smart, brave and reliable. Everything Reilly seemed to be looking for in a woman. I wish them every happiness 🙂

I liked Sam's character a lot too, from the little that we saw of her. I think that if she had become a series regular, or if she was introduced a little differently she would have really been a great addition to the show. Strong, friendly, brave-- she seems like a great match for Riley 🙂

Although I do agree that the relationship sounded a little rushed. I was a little surprised by how quickly the writer's gave him a wife! I think they could have waited another year or so to drop that bomb, myself.

I agree, Katie... When he said he was married I thought "WOW". It seemed a little out of character for Riley to marry a girl so fast, since he was so old-fashioned and even talked about "courting" Buffy. LOL

Oooh, I was just reading the shooting script for 'As You Were' and in it there was a bit that was cut from the aired version in which Riley tells Buffy that Sam is a Doctor....hmmm now I'm all kinds of suspicious of her!

(. . . because of the whole Doctor/demon egg smuggling thing that never really made much sense)

Maybe that's exactly why it was cut... They didn't want fans to automatically assume she was The Doctor. Hmmm. 🙂
