HEAD NEARLY TURNED DOWN BUFFY ROLE

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER star ANTHONY HEAD narrowly missed out on the iconic role of GILES in the hit show, because he hated the 1992 movie the TV series was based on. LITTLE BRITAIN star Head was ready to turn his back on the hugely successful TV show after being horrified by the film version's "uneven" tone, and worried the show was going to turn out the same. It was only until the film's writer and creator of the show JOSS WHEDON begged him to reconsider insisting the show would be nothing like the film, that he came back on board. Head, who is currently on voicing duties for video game DESTROY ALL HUMANS 2, says "I read the script and thought it was the funniest thing I've ever read. I was in a coffee shop and I was spurting my drink everywhere. "Then I saw the film and it was so uneven. I was so disappointed but Joss was like 'No. Oh god no. Don't compare this to the film. This is how the film should have been.' "And he was right. I'm glad I listened to him."

Makes you wonder who would've got the part if Tony had turned it down...

Im sure I read that somewhere a while ago. I could be making that up though.

I couldnt imagine anyone else playing Giles.

I guess Joss really wanted Tony for the role! I can't imagine anyone else. Luckily Joss is very persuasive, and Tony has a GOOD imagination! I don't know if many people would have been able to see past the film version.

i think i read that somewhere before.
i also remebering reading something about Tony being the first person Joss cast...so, if Tony HAD turned the role down, think that woulda lead to any other non-castings?

Hm, that's weird. Glad he did though, like Wicked, most likely any other Giles wouldn't have been a Giles.

I think it was said on the season 5 features that ASH was the first person cast on the first day...

ok, see everyone wlways says that when they find out another actor was considered for a part...but really, we wouldn't have known any difference!
i think it's funny! 😀

Yup. I thought of that... but oh well.
Yeah we wouldn't have known the difference... but thinking of what we know NOW.... it's so hard to picture someone else playing Giles... he was like the most perfect person for this part... it's like Alyson almost not being part of the cast and having that other girl instead... or SMG being cast for Cordelia... though the last one would have been ok I think, lol
But yeah... that's so great that Joss insisted and everything... man I must have had a clear image in his head of who should be played by what actor :silly:

I don't even want to imagine what that would have been like... heh.
Obviously all the roles could have been cast differently, and like Faith says"“ we obviously wouldn't have known it was all "wrong", and it might have been just as good.

(Except obviously this is what it was supposed to be like, and it couldn't have been anyone else playing Giles, and.. OMJ OMJ OMJ thank Joss..)

That was sarcasm..I should have Italicized the "IS" part or something. I don't drink instant coffee BLAH.

Thank the Lord!!!

However, I love Coffee(not instant) and the Ads were great to watch.....
