I read volume 1 and it's amazing. Two words: fastball special.

I just finished off volume 2. Really fun. Possibly the longest continuous action sequence from Joss that I can recall. The fun banter was toned down a bit, but it was a really clever evolving storyline.

It feels like classic comic book material, only smarter. Dark, but not overly cynical and self-conscious. (I'm thinking of the way the Ultimates updated the Avengers...to me that stuff seems forced, trying too hard to be "adult" or whatever.)

It seems to me superhero comics can feel false if they're overly naive or overly cynical. Joss is right in the middle.
