So for me, I'm like a huge sucker for big-blockbuster types, so I never really fell in love until Serenity (The Movie). I absolutely loved Firefly, but I didn't adore the characters until the movie. Even when I go through a run-through I get to the end of Firefly and I just think "Well that was pretty great, but not amazing." Then I watch Serenity and I'm like "Omg, that whole series was amazing!"
 
I think I may have felt the same way. I started watching the show when it first started replaying on the sci-fi channel a few years back. I thought it was okay and pretty cool. Then I dragged my mom along with me to see the movie and I was blown away and bought the series so I could watch every episode (I heard they weren't airing them all on tv or something). I think it's the message I fell in love with and the comedy that keeps me around. 😉
 
For me, it was "Our Mrs. Reynolds". That was the episode that really sucked me in and made me realize how funny the show was and how much I loved the characters." 🙂 And then once I saw "Jaynestown" I was definitely sold. 🙂
 
I got hooked pretty immediately while watching the pilot.

Just the way how the characters interacted with each other, the crybaby and everything else pretty much. Thought it was brilliant from the get go.
When a beautiful, cheerful, Kalyee entered I was definitely in love. 🙂

And if there somehow was any doubt anyway they disappeared once and for all when Mal just shot the lawman and throw him overboard without a word.

Serenity is the best pilot I've ever seen. It's also probably my favorite episode of Firefly. There's some others that can compete though.

I got hooked pretty early on in the series. I'm the opposite, in that I prefer long-running TV shows to movies. I feel like you get so much more character development that way. So I loved the series, short as it was, and thought the movie was kind of a bummer. Too much to wrap up in too short of a time, too much that could have been so much better if developed over several more seasons instead of just 2 hours.
 
I watched the Serenity movie first, and that is what made me fall in love with it all. It was funny, intense, and my type of story. From the opening scenes of River being awesome, and Mal and Wash spazzing (Mal: Define Interesting Wash: Oh god, oh god we're all going to die) to the last scene of a hunk of metal flying off Serenity, I loved the movie to pieces! 🙂 The movie got me into the tv series, which of course made my love grow, but it was truly the movie that first made me fall in love with the 'verse.
 
I saw the movie first (like many non-US fans I suspect) & I fell in love roughly about;
"Madness? Have you looked at this scan carefully Doctor? At his face? It's love, in point of fact. Something a good deal more dangerous."

And that was me, hooked. Joss then procedes to do one of the finest & smartest steadicam shots I've ever seen (from the cockpit with Mal & Wash, then following Mal through the ship, it's exposition at it's finest), which as it happens, isn't actually a continuous shot but has a cut hidden in a whip-pan, sorry, movie geek alert 🙂 Anyway, by the time we get to;
"It's the Pax, the G-32 Paxilon Hydroclorate that we added to the air processors."

I was online ordering the DVD box-set of Firefly, I should stress, it's not the line I quoted above that I love, it's Mal's face as she is delivering it, no-one has ever looked angrier, brilliance.
 
After re-watching/reading the whole 'verse again, I have to say the part in Serenity that got me to just sit down, shutup, stop getting on the internet, stop texting, and ignore my mom (lol), was that Serenity logo coming up. It was so epic! It was Joss, the TV mastermind, having fun. Making this movie the most epic thing we've ever seen. It was just so intense! "Where are you hiding... Little girl" And it goes silent. WOW!
 
My sister had been big into Firefly and started to watch it with me. I really look up to and admire my sister, so I was about ready to like anything she deemed awesome. But loving it was all me. I guess it might have happened in Serenity, and Mal and Inara's first witty banter. Or it may have been with Shindig. Inara is absolutely my favorite character, so it was probably something to do with her that got my heart. But, really... the moment I fell absolutely, intolerably, unequivocally in love with the show wasn't until Heart of Gold. Just the whole episode. I'd loved the show until then, but that episode really sealed its spot in my heart.
 
It took a second re-watch of Firefly to really get me hooked. For some reason, the first time I watched it, it didn't do much for me. I think I had to think about it and let it "settle", lol, to see how amazing the show really was.
 
I didn't feel in love from the start. I continued watching for two reasons. I knew the guy telling me to watch it had good taste and even if he was wrong this time it wasn't many episodes. By Jaynestown I knew I had made the right decision to continue but it wasn't love. Once I was finished with every episode I just needed more episodes. I had finally gotten really hooked and now it was over? So I had no choice but to watch the whole thing from the start. And now I love the first episodes as well. I totally love the show but I can relate when people are aren't sure about watching or continue watching once they've just seen a bit of the show. So I just nag them about watching it all untl they have. 😉
 
The minute it came on the screen. My friend popped in a DVD of The Trainjob, and by the time I got throught the opening credits, I thought,"omg this is the coolest sci fi show I've ever seen!"
 
I saw Serenity first and thought it was just great.

But, in regards to the show, I didn't really fall in love until the episodes Out of Gas and Ariel, the show's best episodes.
The rest may be good, but these two eps are just stellar.
 
From the first episode. I don't remember a specific instant, but the character interaction throughout was excellent and I fell in love straight away.
 
For some reason I really disliked the first episode when I watched it for the first time. I honestly cannot remember why but I gave up watching for a few days... then I decided to give it another go and watch episode two. About half way through I was addicted and ended up watching another three episodes one after another.
Not really sure about my dislike at first, however now it is one of my favourite shows!
 
Actually is a matter of in which sequence you see the episodes.

FOX had them mixed up and left some of them unaired (FOX is somehow stupid with its shows. I mean seriously Firefly should have like 8 season not just half a one).

In the DVD version you get to see them all and in the right order.

I for one watched it in the correct order (and the movie in the end) and so...

I LOVED IT FROM THE VERY FIRST SCENE!!!!!!!!!!
 
I think for me it was the scene where Kaylee is persuading Book to come onboard the ship. The way she spoke about it was so beautiful it kind of persuaded me to stay with them as well. Then of course the scenes with Jayne/Inara/Simon made me laugh. I think the scene that sums up the whole series for me is when they're all at the dinner table just talking. To me that's what Firefly feels like, sitting down and talking to old friends.
 
Yep that scene with kaylee under her parasol talkin to Book is great.

The thing that really hooked me though was Mal's trick on Simon, telling him that Kaylee had died, and then the cut to the bridge with them all laughing fit to burst. I knew then that they were capable of anything!
 
For me it was the "Kaylee's Dead" moment from the series premiere.

That quick cut from Simon to Mal and the gang laughing their asses off is what set Firefly apart from other crap sci-fi shows in my eyes.

Its a prefect example of what Joss Whedon does best - turning convention on its head. Makes me chuckle just thinking about it. XD
