ATF or S8?

I actually didn't like the first two seasons of Angel the series. I barely watched it until the third season. I actually enjoyed the last three seasons of Angel better than I did the first two seasons of Angel.

Wow, see I thought "City of" was the most cinematic episode Joss ever wrote in the Buffyverse, "I Will Remember You" & "Hero" were two of the most emotionally powerful, "To Shanshu in L.A." was plain excellent, "Guise Will Be Guise" was hilarious, "Redefinition" really defined all four of them, "Reprise" Holland's speech was really amazing, "Epiphany" gave Kate a great sendoff, "Dead End" gave Lindsey a great sendoff, and the Faith Darla & Pylea arcs were really fun to watch. But that's just me.

Why are Dawn and Buffy still spinning their wheels with the same problems they had in S6 & S7?

In a year and a half Xander moves from being shocked unconscious by a 16 year old girl to running a world wide operation like he's Nick Fury. Give me a break.

Nick Brendon was surprised too, but like Buffy implied to the Watcher's Council years earlier, compared to most anyone else, Xander's a near expert on demon fighting--he may be "ordinary" compared to Buffy, Willow, Giles & Angel's crew, but he's arguably among the top dozen people IN THE WORLD who is most qualified to be doing that job (not to mention the fact that aside from Spike he's probably the only person Buffy entirely trusts).

I wish that instead of doing comics, they would have focused on doing dvd movies similar to Farscape and Stargate SG-1.

Actually just after Angel was canned, the WB's President resigned and the network admitted not renewing the series for Season 6 was a mistake (it was the #2 most successful drama on the network!), they batted around developing TV Movies instead. Boreanaz refused to return unless it was for a theatrical film, and Marsters was interested in doing a Spike movie, but he told them to get it started quickly because he didn't think it would be believable for him to play a 30-ish character past 45.

I only read Buffy season 8 ,also I am only up to #19 so I carn't really say but so far it really good .I am not collecting Angel comics becuase I didn't really like the show that much , it was good but I thought Buffy was better . ( my opinion )

I've been reading and enjoy both, but I have to say a prefer Season 8. For me, every month Season 8's been a must read ... I have to get each issue as soon as I possibly can. And although I'm enjoying After the Fall, I don't feel quite the same panic (for lack of a better word) when the issues come out. With AtF, I've been buying them when the issues are released together in the hardcovers.

But all that said, I'm enjoying the storylines and characters of both. 🙂

For me its definately ATF, Brian Lynch did really fantastic work with it. Great writing and it really did feel (most of it anyway) like Angel was continuing on. Where as Buffy S8 has totally Jumped the shark, i loved no future for you and i liked wolves at the gate. But everything besides that has pretty much been a mess or just plain stupid. Its nothing like the show at all and i really cant believe there are so many people who can even claim to say its better than ATF.

I've always been more into BtVS, so I guess it's a given that I'll enjoy S8 more. I love the hidden messeges, the new developments, the whole Twilight mystery, and the fact that Xander is more respected and appreciated than on the show. Finally, Buffy decided to give him something to do other than ask him to fled with her sister. The guy has been fighting demons for nine years, time to out his experience into the works, don't you think?

After the Fall, without a doubt. It's funny because I always liked Buffy the show better than Angel, but I find the Angel comics far superior.

The way things are done may be different from the style of the series due to less limitations with comics, but that doesn't mean it isn't incredibily true to the characters and the themes.

And, man, did BL do great work with Gunn and Illyria. Two underdeveloped characters (though Illyria only because she didn't have enough time) turned two of the most fascinating. He made Connor highly likable, brought back Gwen, made Nina interesting and (more) sympathetic, gave great humor, gave Wesley a send-off as good as if not better than his one on the show, and developed Angel beautifully. I'd love to see Angel come in contact with Xander or Giles (two people who judge him harshly and see him as nothing but a demon) with his mindset at the end of ATF.

were just as emotional as they would have been on the show. I was desperate for issues 16 and 17.

I haven't read ATF yet, but Buffy S8 makes my head spin. I love it because it's Buffy, but conversely, a part of me thinks... uh, is this Buffy? I have trouble believing the story arcs and don't think they would fit well with TV Buffy at all. I know that it's a comic, so there is some leeway and the creators are able to have some creative license without the restraint of special effects and other flashy things. But really? Everything seems jumbled and the pacing is off.

The art isn't that fantastic either... you know, besides the gorgeous covers.

THAT BEING SAID, I guess I still like it. The Faith/Giles arc was wonderful, but it was written by Brian K. Vaughan who wrote Y: The Last Man, so obviously it would be amazing. ;D

You definitely need to read AtF then. It's pitch perfect to the characters and series once the plot kicks off in the first few issues. Unlike S8, AtF uses the plans for the TV season six.

I like them both, but I found AtF to be much more satisfying.

Eh, well first of all there are three artists, Franco Urru, Stephen Mooney and Nick Runge. Even though Urru is the primary, I'd say he's the weakest of the three.

Honestly, it varies. On a 1-10 scale, I'd rate it 5-8, and the covers 8-10. I'm not a comic reader so Urru's stuff took some adjusting, but Mooney's I'd say is about as good as you can get short of getting the cast to act the stuff out in a photo shoot (which would be really cool 😛)

Overall, discounting Armstong's non-canon nonsense, I'd say After the Fall's art is a hair better than Buffy's recently.

Frketson: Could you possibly see yourself doing artwork for the Angel series somewhere down the line and have you read After the Fall? What did you think of it?

GEORGES JEANTY (Buffy Season Eight Producer): I have read some of the Angel books and have met the writer. I think I'm a little biased when it comes to the property. It would be unfair to comment on a competitor's book. I can tell you I understand how hard it must be to get the book done and I don't envy their trek. I wish them well.

Wow, clearly not a fan of After the Fall. Personally, comparing #1-17 + 23 of AtF to #1-18 of BS8, I'd give AtF the edge...
