If you could choose your lifelong partner's (if you're into commitment =P) overall qualities, what would you choose? What's a deal breaker?

How do you portray yourself when looking for another person? Anything (physical or not) that you flaunt? Anything you hide?

I love this topic. 😀

If I could choose my lifelong partner's qualities? Hmmm...I seriously wouldn't choose anything but honesty. I could live with the fact that they have a lump on their forehead the size of a mountain. If I could get 110% honesty from you, your beautiful in my eyes.

To be honest, I used to go all out trying to impress someone. I'd run up my allowance on a new pair of shoes, or I made sure that my hair had that extra shine (back when I had long hair), or something crazy like that. Nowadays, I don't even bother. I'd rather be myself around you than try and pretend to be someone I'm not. I would go out with you on the first date wearing nothing but a white tee and some nice pair of jeans, because its not about looks to me anymore. If you can't handle me in my regular everyday style, then you don't deserve me in Dolce & Gabbana.

Haha, I kind of love this, Marshall.

As for the original question.... Its funny cause I guess I could write a list of things I want in a partner but in my experience when it comes to attraction that list usually goes right out the window. My on paper perfect match is rarely the same as the person I find myself suddenly and powerfully attracted to. Attraction - for me - comes from a whole other place...

But I guess I look for balance....A yang to my yin. 🙂

What I am most attracted to is togetherness. There is nothing that draws me to someone more than a person who knows who they are and is comfortable in their own skin. On top of that I am drawn to sincerity and honesty. Add a dash of wit and some fire and, that's just about perfection to me 😉 🙂

Physically, I like big guys. Tall, broad shoulders. There's just something about a physically imposing man, it makes me feel more feminine.

So basically, I want Riley Finn. (sw) 😛

lol, get out of my head Kean, I've told you not to lurk in there!
In a life partner I would want someone who was honest, respectful, intelligent, hard working and compassionate. I'd also like someone with a similar set of beliefs, moral codes and sense of humor as mine, although those aren't a must have. What I think would be deal breakers are intolerance, dishonesty and violent tendencies. As far as physical aspects go, the only thing I would change is height. I'm tall so I'd love a partner who was taller than me.

Honesty I've never been actively looking for someone, I have the attitude and belief that when it is suppose to happen it will. There isn't much I try and hide or flaunt. I'd like to think that I act like myself and don't try and portray myself as someone other than who I am. As far as the physical stuff goes, I do enjoy getting dressed up and doing my hair and make up. My beauty regimen and style choices have more to do with pleasing myself rather than trying to impress someone. I like knowing I look my best, makes me feel better.

For me the things that really matter are kindness, humour and similar political opinions and values. I'm not asking for someone that agrees with me about everything, but I feel very strongly about the political situation in my country and could never be with someone who didn't share my views about things like equality, solidarity and the welfare state. I also value stability in a relationship, so having someone that's down to earth and not to up and down in their moods is also important. I'm really happy to have found this and more in my husband.

As for physical things, it might sound lame, but what really attracts me to someone is when someone is really smart, bordering on arrogant (but in a charming way! 😀). LOL, I can't help it! More general: In guys I tend to like skinny blonde guys with longer hair (jackpot on my husband! 😀) and in girls I always had a thing for short haired girls with brown eyes 🙂 Androgynios people are really hot.

I think that in the very beginning of a relationship I downplay my insecurities. Not because I'm ashamed of them, but because we haven't gotten to that sharing stage yet. 🙂 I think I'm very upfront with my opionions and what I think is important in life.

I have to agree with Living Dead Boy honesty is really the only thing I truly demand of someone in a relationship. Oh and that they can put up with my dreadful sense of humour.

I don't usually go out of my way to try impressing people unless I am in the US 🙂 My British accent starts to sound quite a lot like Giles, very well spoken with clearly pronounced words. I've had some fun in America 🙂 Otherwise pretty much take me as I am.

hahaha - on working the accent. that's awesome. :-)
Someone that is kind, honest and funny. I think the major thing is that I need someone that I can really just have a lot of fun with. I need to be able to just be myself and feel comfortable around them all the time. Definitely not interested in anyone who is superficial or materialistic. I don't want to have to try hard to connect with the person.

Oh, and it helps if she's hot 😛

I'd choose Willow Rosenberg 🙄

No, seriously, I don't know. My partner for life should have a sense of humor, 'cause funny stuff and jokes is really important to me.
And also music and movies in general are important. Not just certain stuff I like, but, you know, watching a movie together or something.

could never love a woman who doesn't share my love of animals, especially dogs and horses. I just wouldn't work. Or, for that matter, anyone who tries to force me to do, or NOT do, anything. Beyond that, a good sense of humor and a general agreement about the common things in life.

Oh, and she has to be rich and willing to share.

I don't know...

I mean someone who could make me laugh. Someone who is smart and willing to put up with me all the time.Someone who is nice and sweet. 😛 Someone who loves dogs. Sadly, that may be the deal breaker... Someone who loves dogs. haha.

I know I've probably forgotten a few things.

Like kittenpoker said, I could totally list out what I think my ideal partner would be, but it would go right out the window when it came to a person I am actually attracted to.

Being on the tall side, I've always told myself that a guy would have to be taller than me for me to find him attractive. Well, turns out that's not even close to being true. If I were to look back at all the guys I've been attracted to, I'm pretty sure I'd notice that as I got older, their looks would vary more and more from one guy to the next. Their personalities, however, though not identical, probably wouldn't be much different from one another.

Girls are kind of the same. I like a lot of different looking girls, but when it comes to personality, my preferences start to narrow the field quite a bit. I like funny girls, girls who are kind, would, more often than not, give money to a homeless person if asked.

I'm a big fan of honesty. My last few relationships ended because the guys just werent honest. It seems like such a simple thing but honest leads on to trusting each other and without honesty, in my opinion, there's no real relationship there.

I am a very basic woman, my gay friend even commented that ''being a woman is wasted on me'' because I dont do much in the way of fashion. I dont wear make up, I straighten my hair only if I've slept on it funny and I'm a jeans, T shirt and Uggs kind of girl 🙂 There's no point false advertising on the first few dates, guys can either like me as I am or not 🙂

Good news: The kind of guys who fall for women like you are great. (I'm married to one of those guys.)

I'm that kind of girl too. While I adore fashion, I don't get the opportunity to indulge in it so I'm a jeans and t-shirt gal. Like you said, fellas can either take me or leave me, I've no interest in pretending I'm something I'm not.

I've never really been one to try to impress people, because I see that as a bit fake. They're gonna find out sooner or later what you're really like. 😉

I've found my perfect partner tbh. He's everything I've wanted in a boyfriend - funny, caring, honest, non-judgmental, secure in himself, respectful, understands my personality perfectly, and is insanely charming and witty. I think a sign of knowing you've found the right person, is how comfortable you are around each other, and that they're your best friend. If you're choosing to be around someone that much, they have to be your best friend.

Well just attraction itself is complicated cause theres characteristics/looks you normally find attractive but theres also another raw attraction that doesn't always match your ideals it just has a vibe that works for whatever reason

I portray me as myself if I'm that interested in the person cause its what I expect...I only flaunt myself and have a problem with trying hard to impress but I do tease, poke fun, flirt....I'm naturally reserved so its not like I hide specific stuff I'm just a personal type of guy and takes me time to trust

So if I'm going to pick ideal traits I guess it would be honesty and realness cause obviously you need trust...I like a good hearted girl even if shes rough around the edges along as overall she means well...I like opinionated women even if it bumps heads with me along as its mutually respectable...I love strong confident and independant women but also want them to be able to give themselves to me at times even if it conflicts with their instincts..I also love a good general sense of humor not saying they have to be giggly but a cute laugh doesn't hurt 😛 ...also knowing how to be sexy and an ability to cook never hurt either 🙂

hm is it me or does that kind of sound like Cordy? ;)
Okay, I'll play along. The traits I am attracted to in a female are... Open-mindness, self-confidence (maybe even a little bit of arrogance), humor, intelligence, positiveness and honesty. Overall I like strong and independant women. That's why I love Buffy and Cordy. 🙂

OH AND as far as physical traits are concerned, BRUNETTE is a must! 😉 😛 Green eyes seal the deal.

I portray myself as how I am, I don't fake it. But, I'm kinda reserved when I don't know someone, so it takes a bit for my full personality to show.

Mostly I looked for someone kind, and that made me laugh.

And most importantly, lets me be myself. I am a very accepting person and I couldn't be with someone who wasn't. It would probably make me uncomfortable. lol

To be honset I'm not looking for love I've been hurt so much in the past

But for to be honset, my Mr Right would be someone who just accpets me for who I am, for what I look like , what music I like and what shows I like. I want someone who can make me laugh and always show me that he loves me. Hopefully Mr Right will like some of the same stuff as me 🙂 I hope he comes one day so he can fix my broken heart 🙂
