Authors you like & get excited about

I don't haunt the bookstores like I used to, but it felt it was really hard to go wrong with an Elaine Cunningham or Diane Duane. Just off the top of my head (more names are surfacing for me now, but I'm not as sure of them.)

ETA: have to add Neil Gaiman!

I'm busy with school so often I don't get too read as much as I'd like either 🙁
 
I love Charlie Huston's writing style. Barker, Gaiman, Hill & King, Cave. A long list really, those are some highlights.
 
All my favorite authors are dead, so new books isn't a thing in my world. New editions or translations however, that can be exciting!
 
@Mr. Pole "any authors you particularly love" is kind of a way of saying favorite, I'd say

I wouldn't. But maybe that's just because I don't like that word favorite that much. But to me they are two different things. Favorite implies that I would read them, get the book, etc. Ones that I love doesn't necessarily mean I would bother with the book day and date of release if at all. I love King but I don't like many of his newer books and don't really read them. Favorite, to me, implies one I would pick up and read period.

Ah, fair enough. Guess I can agree with that differentation
I always get excited when something new comes out from Stephen King. I still remember a few years back when 11.22.63 came out, I went straight out and bought it and read it within a day. That being said, I only get like that if the summary makes me excited, King is so versatile that I don't always love all of his books.

He is the only author, though, usually I just find a summary I like and I rarely read more than one book from the same author.

As in Ursula? I just name checked her in another thread. What do you like by her? I've only read the Playboy story.
 
Sadly, I've outlived most of my favorite authors. The only ones that I specifically look for now are Larry Correia and John Ringo, plus I am currently reading my first Harry Turtledove novel, which seems interesting so far.
 
Currently, of those alive, Haruki Murakami and Brandon Sanderson are authors I get excited about. I usually don't read fantasy anymore but the stormlight archive by Sanderson is fun.
 
Stephen King, Joe Hill, Margaret Atwood, Kate Forsyth, Clive Barker, Richard Kadrey, Laini Taylor and Karen Marie Moning to name a few 🙂

Yes, Ursula Le Guin. I love her Earthsea series to bits. I like the Left hand of darkness as well. I would recommend her work 🙂

Nope. Mr Ringo writes science fiction, military, and some fantasy novels. His Dark Tide Rising series is about a pandemic that is, in effect, a zombie apocalypse, and his Troy Rising series is pure science fiction, plus he writes several standalones such as "The Last Centurion."
