Title: Autumn Memories
Pairing: Willow/Tara
Rating: PG-13
Beta: Xaphania
Summary: On a warm Autumn morning, Willow wanders down to the stream in the hope of seeing the one she loves.
Note: I havent written fanfics in a few years, and used to write mainly Harry Potter fanfics. This is probably one of my first Buffy fanfics so hopefully it is ok. It is quite a short one-shot though wrote it with tired eyes so thanks to Amy for beta reading it through!
The gentle cascading stream fell almost silently over the crisp, bracing white cliff, descending tenderly into the glistening warm pool at her feet. Her eyes were closed, yet she could hear her voice clearly amongst the soft rustling of the autumn leaves, as it echoed with fervour around the empty clearing. Even the miniscule creatures of Mother Nature's world sit in complete silence as they watch the power within the young girl's soul release into the cooling water, her heart faltering in despair.
"Penny for your thoughts, Baby."
Willow shivered as the invigorating breeze brushed lightly over her pale skin, the breath was so familiar upon her lips, the scent of her soul mate oblivious to the laws of nature.
"I didn't think you would come," Willow whispered softly, and shivered once again as she felt the icy cool touch of her lover brush over her arms as the nearby tree's provided an appreciative shade for her below the growing heat of the golden sun.
"Always."
Willow let the cool air of the shade brush tenderly over her face, yet her eyes continued to stay firmly closed, afraid that if she opened them, the scene within her mind would change so completely. Her fingers twisted gently between the blades of grass, lifting silently to entangle within Tara's own feminine fingers, the memory of touch sending deep waves throughout her heart and soul as the unspoken song of the morning thrush danced with a luxuriant abundance of hope.
She watched in silence as the feather hovered above the dry earth and slowly floated towards her, brushing against her cheek leaving ripples of love emanating from the blush upon her skin. She could feel their electricity sparking invisible waves before her as the feather came to a rest upon her stomach.
"You made it seem so easy," Willow whispered, almost inaudibly as the memory of their first days together grew strong within her mind.
"Just Like Magic."
"It was always magic... with you," Willow said softly, smiling as she took in Tara's own smile shimmering in the sunlight, almost invisible in the golden glow of the morning dew. "I was always under your spell."
Willow sighed a deep, never-ending breath as she lay back in the feathery leaf-covered dry grass, her bare feet gliding over the cooling water of the stream as she heard Tara silently laugh. Her body relaxed against the feel of her skin. She had no need to open her eyes, for she knew every outline of Tara's body. She saw it every night in her dreams and every day in her memories.
"Oh Tara." She sighed again, deeper than before. "What would I do without you?"
The sight of Tara's faint, sad smile drifted compassionately within her mind, the sheer recollection of the sight causing her to shiver with deep rooted anticipation. Even from this immeasurable distance, she could still feel the warmth of her lover's heart, the gentle reassurances she gave her when they were alone. With no one else could she be completely herself.
"My little Willow tree."
"Always," Willow whispered, the sun now beginning to break gently through the shade which had bought so much feeling with it. She gazed without really looking into Tara's heart, her own heart crying out to hold her hand for eternity, to feel her tender embrace, to cavort like flora and fauna beneath the evening stars.
"Will I always have you?" Willow thought to herself, her heart pulsing with a deep, anxious beat and she became conscious of the silence which had begun to fall upon the autumn clearing, the silence that even the tiny animals in hiding became acutely aware of.
"You will always have me, Baby."
Willow's breath caught softly in her stomach as Tara's cool breath swam gracefully and affectionately over her softened lips. She felt her fingers entwine softly within her long hair, the silence transforming into a sheet of protection as their sun blushed lips swam against one another, a moment transfixed in the leaves like an everlasting photograph which browned and curled at the edges. She could feel Tara's own heart flutter against her own, smell her sweet fragrance, feel her soft skin as she slowly opened her eyes for the first time...
...And she could only see her hand, poised in the warm autumn air as the vibrant, empty space allowed her clear sight to the distant white clouds in the sky.
She was alone.
The memories deep within her heart and mind swam tenderly through her veins yet as she pulled herself to her feet, an immense shiver of loneliness washed over her soul, her heart full of bereavement as she realised that words were not enough.
She would never share the closeness of her lover again, never hear her words so crisp and loving in the air, never share that long awaited kiss or have that last never-ending picture of perfection and protectiveness she so craved. All she had now were memories of times gone by. All the power she held within her soul was not enough. Even she could not bring Tara home. The memories were her only source of comfort on the long, dark nights alone.
Slowly and silently, Willow pulled her feet from the comfort of the deep, wet water and gazed longingly into the distance, a lone tear falling softly down her pale, grieved face.
"And you will always have me," she whispered into the breeze before she turned and walked towards the strange comfort of the vampire ridden Hellmouth, alone.

Autumn Memories
"My sorrow, when she's here with me, thinks these dark days of autumn rain are beautiful as days can be; she loves the bare, the withered tree; she walks the sodden pasture lane."
