I saw a thread about this in the cemetery and I decided to bring the topic back up because I thought it was intresting. Do you think that a person's avatar reflect their personality or their mood? Would you expect the person to be like their av so to speak? Like if you see someone with a Glory or Cordelia avatar do you expect that person to be bitchy/pissy, with a Spike avatar do you expect them to be sarcastic and up front, or with a Tara avatar do you expect they would be meek and quiet? What do you guys think?
 
Nah, not so much. To me it just means they like the particular avatar or character... see, 'cause I'm definetly not meek and quiet. I just like Tara. =S
 
I would suggest that it does slightly suggest the emotive state of the member.

Chances are the av you pick is one of many of that character, yet you pick that specific one for some reason. You see it, you like it, it may evoke some emotion within you or you may feel something that the av shows....
 
Mine's is clearly signifying that I am the messiah.

Or perhaps it symbolizes that I am tired of the battle between the darker side of my nature and some childhood indoctrination of religious morality, and that I'd just like to rest.

Or maybe it just says my head is 53 miles up my own asshole.
 
I dunno I think that sometimes the avatars do have a certin connection to ones mood? I dunno i tend to pick out ones that are of that nature sometimes

I have mine because I like Angel, but sometimes I choose one because it reflects my mindset at the moment. I don't think it's always an either/or kind of thing, tho.
 
I do think avs reflect on mood and personalitiy to an extent.. i mean you wouldnt pick it otherwise... maybe not so much mood but defintely personality.. i dont know about you guys but when i look at other peoples avs thats the sorta emotion i see from that person.. if you get that? doesnt mean they have to feel or look like what their avs look like.. meh anyways
 
Avatars confuse me sometimes. I always see the avatar but never bother to look at the name so when people change their avatars I dont realise whos posting. In particular, people like BEG, Alister and Jesse. People who had the same avatar for ages and then suddenly changed it.

But I dont really see personality or mood through them. I chosse mine cos I like the character and it was the best out of the selection. Thats all.
 
When it comes to me, it just shows what particular fandom I'm addicted to at the moment... Though, for those of you who can't have custom avs... I guess it shows more in a way..?
 
Oh I loved this thread!!! Yes I used to do that alot. I REALLY remember Anchovy having that Amber Av with the glasses and I just could not get over Anchovy changing it!! LOL Strong association there!

I used to ALWAYS have my various SMG Avs but I felt like something different so I went with Puss'N'Boots. But people always associated me with my particular SMG Av.

Well I like to keep a theme with my Skin but The Master I have now is because he is the character I played in the Roled Discussion last week
 
I remember Jenny's old av with the pink buffy hair and eye liner, I always associate that with her.

When my av wasn't custom I would go with Faith/Doyle/Lindsay so went for a change. Mal is my fave, I like his wit.

I do think it reflects your mood and personality kinda... I know I do picture a lot the ppl according to it too in my head... not physically but more like about who they'd be... sometimes it works and sometimes the posts of those ppl show me I'm totally wrong... lol

I don't picture you like that side of Faith, seeing as when I met you (well the second time the first time I was just far too stressed with people) you were laughing and smiling.

I wouldn't say I was Mal like, sense of humour perhaps.

Haha yeah I guess that's right... actually I put that av up a while ago when I wasn't feeling so great and I thought about changing it yesterday but didn't in the end cause I always more or less relate to that part of Faith.. hurt but still fighting... but I need to find a new one that's more enthusiastic...

And yeah I guess it's true for your Mal av but I still have you in my mind under the old avs you used to have.. .the one of Faith in that red top... that mixed with the one with the puppy... serious and funny at the same time. 🙂

i think the avatars have some projective quality, i mean you did choose the one that you chose for a reason...for some reason it was pleasing to you, which generally speaks to your personality and interests. I mean, dzhugashvili's got a god complex...j/k...kinda. (I actually prefer your second interpretation of your own Av)
