If only there was an IMAX near me. That my friends would be willing to go to 🙁

It's too bad we don't have (affordable) 3D tech at home. Although as much as people rave about the 3D for this movie, I enjoyed it just as much in 2D. The graphics still look just as great and all.
 
I saw this the other day, I wasn't too impressed by the adds, thought it looked kinda boring.

But it was one of the best movies I've seen in a LONG time, first one I was actually totally captivated for the whole time. Totally blown away by it.

Also the first time I think 3D has been used correctly, actually adding dept to the movie instead of flinging stuff at your face!

Agreed on the fantastic use of 3D.
I saw it a few weeks ago in 3D. I REALLY wish I could have seen it in IMAX, but there's not a theater within 2 hours of my parents house, which is where I was over the holidays. Still, I was completely blown away. It's one of the only times I've witnessed a movie that actually lives up to the hype.
 
Ah, I forgot to post in this thread. I saw the movie recently in 3D, although I think I'd quite like to see it again at the IMAX just for the experience. I thought it was a pretty film to look at, even if the dialogue and story got a bit cheesy at times. Still well worth seeing at the cinema though, great big old fashioned blockbuster.
 
Bluebird just reminded me of this thread, I saw it in 3D a few weeks ago, I thought it was brilliant. I wanted to go to the IMAX since it's only 20mins away from me but it had been fully booked. Sat through the whole thing without saying a word, which shows how good it is because usually me and my friends talk and mess about a bit 😉.

Agh, tell me about it. I've tried to see it in IMAX but every time I remember to get online to reserve tickets, it's sold out for the days I'm able to go 🙁 but I've seen it 3x in 3d.
 
You were depressed?? It had me buzzing for weeks!

Anyway, it won best movie at the golden globes, also best director( which i dont agree with, QT should have won but thats enough fanboy ranting for now) and i think it won something else but i cant really remember atm...
 
I've booked tickets to see it in 3D at the IMAX 😀. I saw it in 3D at a normal cinema, but it just seems like one of those films you have to see at the IMAX. Although I bought the tickets last night, the only time I could get them for is the 31st of January. Popular movie.
 
The Jan 22 issue of Entertainment Weekly" has Avatar as the cover story and some interesting facts about the production, not the least of which is that there is an additional 40 minutes of footage that will be added for the DVD release, and that there are already plans underway for a sequel.
 
I just saw it last night. Massive environmental and political messages! Hopefully it may give some people a wake up call. I love when TV and movies are more thought provoking than just simply shallow entertainment (although it could defo be enjoyed that way too) I loved the connection between everything on Pandora. People dont realise that these connections are happening right in front of our eyes, if they bothered to look beyond what you simply see. The visual energy was lovely.

The 3D was great, I've not been to a proper 3D movie so it was pretty cool. Screw these futuristic hologram stuff - old school 3D glasses all the way hehe. I especially loved the little bugs and particles you could see in the air around the place, the colours were beautiful and little things like a dirty window and fire extinguisher on the spaceships made it look more authentic. It was a little predictable but still really enjoyable.

Beautiful movie clips and song. The lady singing ain't hard on the eyes, either.
 
I didn't think much of this film. I only went to watch it because my mum wanted to go for her birthday (not entirely sure why...). I don't really get the fuss everyone makes over it. Sure, visually it's amazing, but the story is pretty much the same as Pocahontas. Also, I didn't see the point in it being 3D.
 
Just seen this and I loved it. It is probably the least subtle use of metaphor I have ever seen, and I love it the more for it. Important themes and messages should be blatant.
I seen it with my buddy, and we usually talk during movies ( yes, sorry, I know people like us are feckin' annoying ) but we didn't talk once. I loved how the machinery and weapons looked so damn ugly when seen in the environment. Nature really is stunning.
Brilliant performance from Zoe Saldana, you really do care and feel for her, which is odd for a CG creation.
Great movie. I just hope it ages well.

I haven't seen Pocahontas (I know, I should have) so it reminded me of Dances with wolves instead. I watched it on the computer so I can only imagine how much better it had been to watch it the way it's supposed to be watched. So I can't really comment on the 3D thing.

I really liked it and I'll definitely get the dvd. It's not the greatest story ever told. But it's not a bad one either, no matter how many times before it's been told. And I still it makes a great point so it's not bad to repeat it. Especially as time goes by. The visuals can be a big part of a movie. Hero, Crouching tiger, hidden dragon. House of Flying Daggers or the Lord of the ring movies wouldn't be the same without the great visuals. It's an important part in a lot of movies and can make a huge difference to your opinion on it. In the same way as music can.
