We don't even have to speculate on whether or not there will ba a sequel to "the Avengers," but, assuming that there would be plans to bring in another Avenger (sorry, folks, I won't be available, you'll have to settle for someone else) who would you like it to be?

I would be tempted to say the Scarlet Witch, just to get another female on board, but that would mean that her brother would probably have to be there as well, and there won't be enough screen time for each character. Wasn't the Valkyrie one of the Avengers? A sword wielding babe on a winged horse might set Thor's heart aflutter, and they might have actually had a history together back in Asgard (I know, the original Val wasn't a real Valkyrie, but Cap wasn't really the First Avenger, either. Joss could work it out)

What? Avengers 2 without you? Then they can't win in the end...
After watching Avengers I really wanted to know more about Hawkeye. I'd love to see his character explored more, especially his relationship with Black Widow.

It would be nice to see more female superheroes in the next Avengers film, maybe Spider Girl, Valkyrie, Quake or Wasp.

A second Avengers movie has already been announced, so we really don't have to speculate there.

But an addition to the team? Let me think. Well, some people really want Spider-Man, but I think there are some problems because Sony bought all Spider-Man rights or something.
But I'm not a Spider-Man fan anyway.

No, I'd like to see Wolverine in a new Avengers movie. He was also part of the Avengers at some point and he's a total bad-ass, but maybe there will be some problems with the rights as well. I don't know.

Another female hero would be great, too. I think Joss also said that he'd like some more females in the second movie (he didn't say that he'll be involved in the making of the film though).

Wasn't Wasp a part of the original comic Avengers? Of course AntMan was too I think. I don't know if I want Hawkeye/Black Widow's relationship explored in another Avengers movie- instead I'd love to see Joss do a Black Widow movie!

And yes to Wolverine!

And yes to Wolverine!

The original team was Iron Man in his original gold garbage can armor, Thor, the Hulk, Ant Man, and his girlfriend, the Wasp. Captain America didn't show up until Issue 3 and SHIELD didn't have any involvement in the team until much later. The team's name was suggested by the Wasp, and the Hulk endorsed it immediately. There were never any other names proposed. The Hulk left the team in the next issue, because he didn't think that the others trusted him. Cap joined the team in the next just issue when Zemo, his old WW2 adversary, returned, which, at best, makes him either "The Last First Avenger" or "The First New Avenger." He didn't become "The First Avenger" until his movie last year.

I'd kind of like to see Hellcat, although she probably doesn't have enough name recognition. Her comic book history reminds me of Buffy... for decades, she starred in Archie-type humor and romance comics, as a non-superhero, until they had her meet up with The Beast (from the X-Men) and she was transformed into a superhero.

Joss could probably have some fun with her and her character history.

I think it's more likely that Black Widow will simply be given a bigger role in the sequel, and maybe Maria Hill as well.

Maybe Maria Hill will play a bigger role so Joss (assuming he's part of the second movie) can kill her, like he always does 😀

Oh god I hope not! Hers was probably the only character in the movie that I didn't care about. I'm not a big fan of the actress, & the character did absolutely nothing for me, or the plot.

I would like scarlet witch, although to be honest I think anyone who comes into the avengers, needs their own film first to expalin their origins etc... hawkeye didn't have his own film so now everyone seems to want to know more about him, it seems it would be easier to give them a film first and then tie it into avengers, just like the others where.

Eh, really? Because 4 Wolverine movies wasn't enough.

I think the Scarlet Witch would be interesting too, assuming she's of the non-No. More. Mutants mindset 😉.

Besides her, I'll take the cop out answer and go with wanting Wasp.

Couldn't agree more with that first statement.

I haven't watched X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the first two X-Men movies were cool and I'm looking forward to The Wolverine next year.
I mean, you're not complaining about all those Iron Man movies. The fourth movie with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark is gonna be released next year.

Iron Man was an original Avenger and the movies were created with intention of him being in The Avengers. Wolverine didn't join the Avengers until 42 years after the comic was released. If they added him to the next movie, it would be just because he's one of the most recognized superheroes ever, not because he would be a logical choice.

Yes, I know that Wolverine isn't part of the original Avengers and I don't want him in because he's "one of the most recognized superheroes ever". I want him in because I like him. You don't have to think the same way. If you don't want him, it's OK. I just meant that you said, "Eh, really? Because 4 Wolverine movies wasn't enough." In my post I was stating that there are also gonna be 4 Iron Man movies before the next Avengers movie and you're not saying, "Eh, really? Because 4 Iron Man movies wasn't enough." I hope you get my point.

Well, as a massive comic book fan, the two big ones missing from the movie are Spiderman and Wolverine. They're both big fan favorites, two of the biggest, but the problem is that they're both owned by other production companies. Now, there have been cross-promotional deals in the past, so it's certainly not impossible, but I would say it's unlikely. It would be pretty neat if people went to see the new Spiderman movie next month and in an after-the-credits scene Nick Fury shows up. People would go freaking crazy for that.

I've heard that there have been preliminary for a Heroes for Hire movie (Luke Cage and Iron Fist), which would eventually branch out into them joining The Avengers for another movie. In the comics they're two of the featured members of the second Avengers team, the New Avengers (there are a few Avengers squads in the comics), which is more street level focused, and not so much built in the stop-the-alien-invasion mold.

I'd love to see a high school aged Spiderman joining The Avengers if they can negotiate the rights to make it happen (does anyone write better teenage heroes than Joss?).

Well, the thing with Spider-Man and Wolverine being big fan favourites...The way I understand it, they aren't big fan favourites in regards to being with the Avengers team. I don't see it working out well on screen, just as I wasn't a fan of those two being in the team in the comics. I would say it's more than unlikely that they won't be added to the current Avengers line-up; I'd say it's nigh impossible. Marvel would want to be able to do their own versions of both respective superhero flicks, with their own tie ins, before bringing them into the fold. Marvel will not own those rights again, at least not without tossing a substantial amount of money at both Sony and Fox. Reboots of several FAILED franchises are being planned simply so those companies DON'T lose the rights (Fantastic Four, Daredevil, etc.,) so I highly doubt they are even going to consider giving them up at any point.

Spider-Man, IMO, works better as a standalone character. Matter of fact, I'm still not sure if they can successfully bring him to the screen. I hated the first Spider-Man trilogy, and while I'm going to go see TAS in theaters when it comes out in July, I'm not convinced it will be amazing.
And Wolverine...Well, as far as the movie versions are concerned...I'm sorry, I don't want "WOLVERINE!!!...'n friends". Or, actually, sorry, more accurately...I don't want "WOLVERINE!!!...'n friends" number four, as we got the first three with the X-Men movies. Another thing to consider is that, even if they were somehow able to get back the rights, and do their own movie....Hugh Jackman *IS* Wolverine to general public. If Marvel were to do a reboot, they would undoubtedly recast, and who knows if that would be received well.
I would not be appeased, as a fan of movies, OR as a comic fan, if these characters were brought to the Avengers on film, just as I wasn't pleased when they were brought to them in the comics.

Another thing to consider when you mention 'fan favourite,' what type of fan favourite are you referring to? Keep in mind that none of the characters currently in the Avengers movies were 'fan favourites' for the main populace until their respective movies were released. Pre-movies, if you had asked the average person on the street who Iron Man was underneath the suit, most of them would not have been able to give you an answer. Out of the characters currently in the movies, the only one that I would say the average person knew about was Captain America, and even that is stretching it a bit.

I'd personally like to go with people that are unknown to the general public. I also think we need more female superheros in the team as it stands. Wasp is a popular choice, and I wouldn't be against her, as I like her character. The only issue with bringing her on board is that she likely comes hand and hand with Ant-Man, and I do NOT see that transferring to screen well at all.
Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) could bring an interesting dynamic to the group, I think.
I also wouldn't mind Ms. Marvel or Scarlet Witch. Bring on the female superheros, I say.

The biggest danger in adding more members to the team is that it limits screen time of the individual characters, making them little more than spear bearers in the final big battle. That could be avoided by having one of the original members leave, of course, but I seriously doubt that anyone would really want that, since they seem to work so well together.

I can see Spiderman being better suited as a standalone character. I don't like how Bendis writes him now. The way he's presented in the Avengers books at the moment is as little more than comic relief. He's been on the team since 2005 (when JMS was writing him in Amazing Spider-Man as one of the deepest and most interesting characters in Marvel) and in that entire run, all of it by Bendis, I can't think of one, not one, story that has centered around him. So considering that, I wouldn't want him on the Avengers movie roster just to have him there. And I was speaking hypothetically. I know that sorting out the rights to the character is in all likelihood, not going to happen.

As for more female characters, I love that idea. The only problem is that most of them either don't translate well to movies or just aren't that interesting. How do you do Scarlet Witch without mentioning Magneto, who's owned by FOX? You'd have to completely revamp her character. I agree that Wasp doesn't work well as a big-screen character (and to be honest, I just don't care for her). Jessica Drew is by far the best current female Avenger, but the average fan will not get that "Spider-Woman" and "Spider-Man" aren't connected, no matter what you do, and if you just make her a spy/secret agent, how is she any different than Black Widow? Carol Danvers seems like the most likely, especially with Thanos looking like the big bad of the next movie. Warbird was the head of NASA security once upon a time, so they could build off that.

Still, I think the most likely scenario is for Maria Hill to be really expanded upon, in terms of new female Avengers.

As for Wolverine, I get what you're saying about the other Avengers not being household names, but there's a reason he's splashed across all the X-Men books and two different Avengers teams (not to mention his own book): He's stupidly popular. And he's mainstream popular. The average person, not a comic fan, knows who Wolverine is. Adding him to the roster (I know it won't happen, I'm just talking in hypotheticals), is a draw. A big one.

I just wanted to explain that it was Maria Hill I was referring to here, not Black Widow.

My 5 year old is already asking me if SpiderMan is going to be in the next Avengers movie! 🙂

I definitely think that's a caution that they should observe. I liked the mix of action & character moments we got in the movie.
