Ok, so I am probably the last person to hear this but I was watching Awakening today and noticed that after Angel had 'the sex' with Cordy he said Buffy? Anyone know why, was he supposed to? Or was it a slip? Please enlighten me. Thanks.

I was so happy when he said Buffy 😛 I saw it at the time as a portent of a crossover.. but also revealing of his deeper feelings, and maybe just remembering what it was like the last time he lost his soul. If I was a Cangel fan I would have been a little pissed though.
At the time it aired I remember reading that the "Buffy" line was improv, or it wasn't scripted originally anyway.
Some people... or uh an opinionated person I used to know on other buffy forums was pissed that Angel said that.. but in his defense it was his *dream* Cordy's feelings were never actually hurt. I think he's allowed to say another girls name in his dream.

as one gunning for the Angel cordy ship, yes i was pissed! I only picked it up on the third veiwing when i happened to have the subtitles up. I took it back because i couldn't believe what i had seen. i was so disappointed that Angel, who'd actually shown signs that he was growing as a character could still be clinging to the past like a terrier with a tennis ball, particularly as his 'perfect day' had been all about Cordy. I choose to interpret it as him simply reliving the last time he lost his soul in order to actually lose his soul (i don't care if i'm clutching at streaws either!)

Weird that I picked up on it the first time I saw it, which was on a crappy video file. To be honest it did seem a little out of nowhere though, in the context of what was going on in his life at the time.

As a Bangel fan, it was a bliss. 😀 But I was surprised as well, seeing the writers's intent to "mate" him with Cordelia. Maybe it was a salute to BANGEL fans.

It made perfect sense to me that Angel would say "buffy". It symbolizes when one has made a mistake. It's that 'uh oh' moment of realisation.

Perfect for Angel.

Big time Bangel fan here, but to be honest I loved the cordy angel thing - it was sweet. But I wasn't pissed off when he said Buffy - Buffy was his thing! His Niche to give him back the soul...without thinking of Buffy I just don't think he would've got it back.

And he probably made mention to it (like Dzhugashvili mentioned above) realized uh oh...this is just like Buffy. Subsequently "Buffy"

Oh I see what you mean now by association, but it also seemed very prophetic to me, it's rare that the Buffyverse doesn't foreshadow in some way something big.

Oh for sure, Whedon is that big time foreshadower of our time - but sometimes when we're thinking that I think we just get carried away and think everything refers to something big to come...and we don't think it was something from the past you know?
