Azumi

Azumi...anybody seen it? It looks like the type of film Buffy people might like. It was my first Japanese Samurai film (well other than Seven Samurai of course). I just stumbled onto it. I say my first. Are there others? It the kind of film I'd expect to have a cult following.

Kind of fanciful of course, but I love when something's so well-crafted it makes you believe the unbelievable.

When skinny little teenage Azumi wades into that army of samurai, and crazy soldiers, looking to slice em all into sushi, that's so silly, and yet so much fun to watch. I mean she was what 90 pounds soaking wet.

But I'm talking to myself, right? Who else would watch a Japanese Samurai film? You should try. It's fun.

Never heard of them, but I will give them a try. Based on comments though the first would be the better one. Not surprising as they usually are. And it seems the subtitles to the second are awful, but still better than none I guess. Now why don´t I speak japanese?! Maybe I should get the english ones instead.

If you haven't tried them, you might try the "Lone Wolf and Cob" series, which is about a "ronin," or disgraced samurai, who travels around Japan with his infant son, or the "Blind Swordsman" series, each of which consists of about a half a dozen movies, all made in the middle to late 70's. Both are well made, well acted, and, of course, filled with samurai mayhem and not a little humor, most of it completely unintentional.
