Wow. I must have some seriously different ideas of what constitutes a bad episode than some of you guys!
I think Superstar is a brilliant episode, and I like Beer Bad. "Foamy" is one of my favorite all-time Buffy lines - I thought Buffy's devolution into cave-Buffy was a riot. Plus anyone who ever went to college away from home can totally relate to the student/townie rivalry. I'm not saying Beer Bad was a pure gem, but it was head and shoulders above some of the klunkers from seasons one and two (Some Assembly Required, Reptile Boy).
Although (and I know I probably mention this all the time, but I really like hearing myself talk so I'm going to say it again) even the WORST Buffy episodes have little moments of brilliance in them that elevate them a notch or two above most other tv.

I don't get what was wrong with Beer Bad. It's an okay episode. I thought for sure everyone would say Superstar. How could anyone stand Jonathan in that episode? He was annoying imo.

I thougt "The Freshman" was pretty bad. It was just such a bland start for the season. I think Joss wasn't quite sure what to do after Angel and Cordy left. The season didn't really start to pick up until "The Initiative."

I really didn't mind Superstar, it was nice to see another character from high school again. And even though Beer Bad is kind of a blah episode, I always thought Joss was just joking around (in the DVD note), because everyone has one or two eps that they think sucked, even if most people liked them---he's saying, 'it sounded good when we wrote it', meaning that it's not like they tried to make a crappy episode.....(*coughs* beer bad)
I love superstar... I mean... the lines! The shrimp! The "don't speak latin in front of the books"!
I think the thing in the liner notes was a joke (that note was hilarious. I treasure it in my dvd set). But if it's anything, it beer bad. I though that was mindless fun though, unlike my pick for the worst of the season, where the wild things are. If it wasn't for the expresso pump, that would have been the most pointless thing ever.
