As anticipated as the new Avengers movie is, Joss and his superheroes just might wind up being overshadowed by the single biggest cast of legendary action stars the big screen has ever seen, including the return of both the Terminator and the baddest Texas Ranger since Texas John Slaughter,

Who, you ask, was Texas John Slaughter? Well...

Yes, this could be a major problem for the movie to make big money at the box office.
But many movies have or had the same problem.

However, I just hope that the movie is good. Would be nice, of course, if Joss' movie was a big success.
This would give him the recognition he deserves and it would give him more possibilities for future projects.

My bet is they would share the same demographic. There's enough for everyone to go around.

If it's anywhere near as horrible as the first one Joss has nothing to worry about. I actually don't think it's going to be a blip on the radar compared to The Avengers.

Also, doesn't the Avengers come out in May and The Expendables 2 come out in August??? I'm not sure what you mean by this thread.

I agree, the first one only had Schwarzenegger and Willis in it for a scene and it seemed really forced. Expendables 2 will have to do a lot better than the first film because Avengers looks amazing.

Yeah seeing as how the first one wasn't a massive deal, dont really see the problem.

Plus I don't think it's an either or kinda situation like it is with TV, if you'd pay to go see one, you'd prob pay to see both. Might effect opening weekend, but wouldn't say much overall.

Yeah... I just looked it up and it said Expendables was coming in August. Am I missing something?! I don't understand why it would be a problem.

Even so, I think that The Avengers should be alright. There's nothing to stop people seeing both so apart from, like was said above, opening weekend I don't think it'd be that much of a battle! But I'm the kind of person who goes to the cinema really often anyway. I see how it might be different if you don't really go much and it's a choice between which you wanna see.

The whole thing was kind of tongue in cheek. Just thought that someone here would be interested to know that Arnold's not the only one who's back. They got Chuck out of retirement, too.

Ahh sorry, when I first read it I just automatically assumed you meant it'd be proper competition like with release dates or something. My bad!

I've never even seen the first one and this is the first I've heard of the second one, so Avengers is way more important for me right now 😛 I've been getting stupidly excited about it.

Expendables was basically a "big names" movie. Lots of action-movie-known actors, but no good story. Red was the same thing, but with a slightly better storyline.

I wouldn't worry for Avengers even if the release dates were the same. Because Avengers seems to have a really good story behind it. Plus, in Avengers, it's the character that are imported from other movies. In Expendables (1 and 2), the emphasis is only put on the actors.

As much as I love Bruce Willis (and the fact that I will still watch this movie shows how much I love the guy....), Expendables looks to be a very bad movie... It would surely be a flop if there weren't that many well-known actors in it...

Expendables 1 sucked (IMO, of course). The only time I got excited was when I saw Charisma Carpenter. That movie is an example of how the industry works nowadays: get the biggest names to generate the highest amount of money. They could care less about making a good movie. Lets hope Joss can change that.

I totally forgot about that! I was jumping up and down on my couch when I saw Charisma 😎

Joss is one of those few people in the industry that still care more about the product itself than the money he's going to get out of it. That is partly why I like him so much. Well that and the fact that everything he does is great (lol)

What the movie is about rather than who is in the movie, I would think, matters more in the grand scheme of things.
