Super-Strength doesn't mean everything, not even in the Buffyverse. Look at Gunn, sure he couldn't go toe-to-toe with Buffy, but he struck fear in the hearts of many-a-vampire even though he couldn't bench-press nearly as much.
 
I gotta go with the B-man hands down. The mark of Bruce Wayne is that not only is he highly skilled and has a ton of gadgets but that he's a thinker. His brain is constantly thinking and working even mid-fight.


Buffy on the other hand is a brawler. She likes to get in there and get her hands dirty, she fights on emotion and with her heart.

Batman would see that kind of approach and lick his chops, then defeat her.

I won't say that Buffy is smarter then Batman but i think some are downplaying just how clever she could be during a fight. Occasions such as the killing of Luke where she fooled him into thinking the sun was up and especially mixing Holy Water with her enemy's pills in "Helpless". To say Buffy was just a brawler i'd say was a bit unfair.
 
I think Faith fights more with her heart. She goes there just to kick ass. Buffy after seven years has learned how to think IMO. She is not all kick-o fight-o...:biggrin3:

I agree with you, I don't buy into Buffy being a mindless warrior either. That said...

Look at Batman's retrieval of the Mob Accountant from Asia. A day of planning, and a five minute fight, and Mission Accomplished. I'm not saying Buffy couldn't have done the same thing, but she's not that kind of strategist. She would have fought her way up 40-stories, fought her way down the same, and have the guy tied up and snuck onto some kind of cargo barge. It would be a weeks long endeavor and an hours long fight, where with Batman it was a couple of days altogether, and a 5-minute fight.

The Timmverse Batman would handily defeat Buffy since she's weaker than at least 1/3 of his enemies. And I even tend to go with Bale!Bat over Buffy...

I will say that Buffy would be more useful against the Joker though, since she'd eventually just kill him 😛

I started reading my first mainstream comic story, The Return of Bruce Wayne, and I have to say, compared to this guy, Buffy wouldn't stand a chance.

So far, he was tossed back into the prehistoric era by a "god" with his memory completely erased. None of this seems to be stopping him. He fights building-sized monsters and primitive armies, knowing nothing except for the inclination to return to the 21st Century. He can barely speak, with no advanced technologies or magic, and he still has managed to traverse thousands of years towards his destination.

I'm sorry, but all the Scoobies + Angel Investigations would barely stand a chance against Bruce Wayne.

The Buffy writers didn't like to make her seem invincible. They knew the audience knew they weren't going to kill her (permanently anyway), but they still liked to pretend there was some danger. They liked to have her lose some fights. I'd venture a guess that the writers of Batman wrote him specifically to be a badass. That was never a goal of the Buffy writers.

I'd still say Buffy wins though.
 
I'm just going by the description that was given a post before mine. I have seen Batman Begins though, which seems to be the Batman we're talking about in this "who would win" debate, and I never got the impression from the movie that he was some kind of strategical genius or that he was a peerless warrior.

Why do you disagree? They beat her up or knock her unconcious so many times it's almost ridiculous. Not to mention the whole dying twice thing.

Well we're kinda all over the place on which Batman we're talking about. Buffyverse Fan was talking about the most recent Batman story (which I think I'm going to have to order online. 🙁)

So a tough super-powered woman who has beaten her foes more times than she's been beaten isn't being painted as bad ass because she's sustained some injuries and faced challenges? Just about every action-oriented character is going to take blows and if they're a superhero they're probably going to die at some point and come back. haha
 
I'd still venture to say that Buffy faced more low points than other superheroes.

Anyways, the ultimate deciding factor for me in this debate is that while I like Batman, I don't like him nearly as much as I like Buffy. So Buffy should win. ^^

Something to consider here that hasn't really been brought up is that, no matter just how skilled Buffy might be with a sword, axe, crossbow, or staff, she rarely carries more than her trusty stake, whereas Batman is habitually a walking arsenal, and an armored one to boot. If Batman were to send Buffy a note saying:

"Dear Slayer,

It has come to my attention that there are some people on the Buffy Boards who seem to be in contention as to just which one of us could kick the other's a**, and, quite frankly, I've always kinda wondered the same thing. Anyhow, Alfred (he's an old friend of mine) who just by coincidence went to grade school with your friend Giles, suggested that we meet somewhere in neutral territory and settle the matter once and for all. I've talked to Superman, and he has offered to loan us his Fortress of Solitude for the contest, and I'm offering you the choice of weapons. Swords, axes, or anything else that you feel comfortable with is fine with me.

then Buffy would have a chance. If the two were to just meet in a cemetery some night, Buffy's customary stake or axe wouldn't stand a chance against Batman's array of weapons. If bullets won't penetrate his armor, neither would a sword, stake, or crossbow. on the other hand, just about anything that Batman carries would take Buffy out from a distance, before she even got the chance to stab, kick, or punch him.

Even Warren, with a single bullet, could have killed Buffy if his aim had been better, and I can't see that having changed if she had seen him coming beforehand, simply because he could injure or kill her from a much greater distance that do the same to him.

With Batman vs Buffy, we would see the classic situation of someone bringing a stake to a Batarang fight.

Hasta la vista, Buffy.

It would be awfully polite of him to send that note.

If they were ever to fight it would probably be a comical misunderstanding where one of them thought the other was evil.

(I lol'd at Giles and Alfred going to the same grade school and Superman loaning him the Fortress of Solitude. That doesn't seem wise and cost-effective considering the property damage that comes with these sort of fights.)

(And if she did refuse the internet chatter would be that Willow is not a loyal friend because she didn't commit murder for Buffy.)

I agree with you completely. If anything, Vengeance's criticisms apply more to Buffy than Batman.

Batman is physically weaker than most of the villains in his universe. On the other hand, Buffy has supernatural strength which was said to be greater than that of Angel, who himself is stronger than 99% of vampires and most demons we've seen.

The whole thing with Batman is that someone like Superman could kill him with one good punch, but as Superman states in The Return of Bruce Wayne, Batman's survival instinct makes him a more cunning and competent man than the immortal "gods" he defeats.

It's like Superman's line from the Timmverse, "You'll outlive us all Bruce, you're too stubborn to die." At that point, Bruce Wayne was a 70 year-old cripple with a bad heart and kidneys, and Superman was faster and stronger than ever.

In terms of the "peerless warrior" remark, I think by skill & competence in a fight, Batman is peerless. That said, most of the time Batman is fighting inferior warriors who also have the strength to rip him in half without breaking a sweat (literally).

What's so impressive is his skill. Batman can't take a single direct hit from Superman or Darkseid and survive, he'd be dead instantly. That's where his skill is superior. If Buffy was fighting an opponent that would shatter her skeleton in one punch, I don't see her winning (not withstanding S8 Super Buffy 😛 ).

Buffy relies on her strength a great deal, where Batman doesn't. He's as strong as a 6'3" human can be without super-strength, but that doesn't mean much against beings tossing cars at him.

So here's where I stand now:
Batman Begins vs. Buffy S7 - Too Close to call, probably Buffy.
Dark Knight Batman vs. Buffy S7 - Close, probably BaleBat
Dark Knight Batman vs. Super Buffy S8 - Super Buffy
Timmverse Batman (JLU Era) vs. Super Buffy S8 - Batman (after a lot of tricks)
Amnesiac Bruce Wayne 2010 vs. Super Buffy S8 - Batman (by the end of #2)
