Banana Sandwiches

I grew up eating banana sandwiches, but I learned recently that a lot of people had never heard of such a thing (Elvis loved them, by the way), and it set me to wondering, what kind of favorite but unusual foods you might eat. (That's your cue, folks, let's hear it)

My Mum used to make banana sandwiches but dipped in sugar and fried...Elvis would've been proud of her...that's probably what is responsible for my life-long dislike of bananas 🙂 She also did a similar thing with jam sandwiches...shudder!

When I was a lad I had a penchant for sandwiches made with HP Sauce - HP Sauce - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - just a spreading of the old brown sauce and two slices of white bread...pure ambrosia! 🙂

Eww...... banana sandwhiches, I dont' like them although my hubby quite often has one

I like sardine & tomato paste sarnies with squished pickled onion Monster Munch or Walkers Salt 'n' Vinegar crisps in the middle. Disgusting I know, but it tastes gorgeous...breath mint may be needed later though 'lol'

I also like marrowfat pea sandwhiches too! 😀

Most of my gross things involve ketchup. I can have it with ANYTHING. I've had it with vegetables, chocolate, ice cream...You name it, I've probably had it. Tip: It's not nice with ice cream 😛

I like kimchee. And li hing mui (not sure on the spelling there) on just about any kind of chewy candy (especially gummi bears). My hubby thinks I'm crazy cause he hates the smell of both of those, but they're awesome.

I can sandwich anything, including Spag Bol.

I love Crisp and Cheese sandwiches with Salad Cream and also Cheese and Chocolate and Chocolate and Crisps go well.

I hate banana sandwiches. I hate banana pudding too, or anything with banana UNLESS it's just a plain banana - I love those, in fact I just ate a banana five minutes ago.

Honestly I don't know if I eat anything considered weird, unless you don't live in the South and consider most Southern food weird. 🙂

This post was like readable caffeine, woke me right up! (it's 8:20am) This is awesome to read, especially when your tag says you're in Virginia!?! The Kimchee I'm not suprised about, but how in the world did li hing mui powder find it's way to you way on the other side of the continent? One of my favorite local treats here are 'li hing mui gummi bears' - can't remember the name of my favorite brand but they're sticky/tacky and turn your fingers orange and I LOVE IT! Li hing mui crack seed I've been eating since a wee tot, one of my favorite things/flavors/taste explosions. And here's a great tip for you li hing mui powder... add a tablespoon or so to a batch of blended margarita's and rim the glass with it as well.... Hea-ven.


As for banana sandwiches, I'll take mine with a semi-sloppy amount of peanut butter on wheat, please.

This thread inspired me to hunt down some of the food I loved when I grew up in Hawaii, and I discovered that Diamond Bakery, which makes the best soda crackers EVAR, and Crack Seed Center, which sells the li hing stuff Kanani and I have been raving about, have WEBSITES and will SHIP STUFF! I can have soda crackers again! Woot!

Them were quite popular desert in our school in South Korea, but I didn't participated in such activity - bananas are just like posion to me.
I'm totally allergic.

Also, here, in Jkraine, people do eat bananas alot, but I've never heard of such sandwiches here.

Depends how you define 'unusual'. Half the food I eat daily probably sounds weird for Americans/Britons/Aussies.
It's not considered to be weird in any way to eat liverwurst, bloodsausage, salmiak, gummy bears, rusk etc., at least here in Germany. So that's one thing. Don't know if it's true but I have heard that Americans, for instance, don't eat anything of the above.

And the REALLY strange food (worldwide strange, lol) I eat is probably bread rolls with cheese and honey.
Oh, and that one time (I was 12, at best) I made myself a nice slice of bread with Nutella and but salami with ketchup on it. Let's just say it was an experience.
Nothing to eat but drink that most people can't understand: What I drink most troughout the day is fennel tea. I just love that stuff. Have ever since I was a baby.

I've never heard of a banana sandwich before; it sounds strange, but interesting. Some other strange, but interesting sandwhiches:

Peanut butter and chocolate sprinkles. (My favourite!)
Chocolate spread and cheese.
Jelly and cheese.
Ketchup and cheese.
Syrup and cheese.

This is how I like my banana Sandwich:

2 slices of bread (duh) toasted. Peanut butter on both sides, bananas cut circular in the middle. Sometimes I also add honey.

banana on toast is just about my favourite thing for breakfast. i also love a banana sandwich. If you like fruit on bread than i would reccomend pineapple sandwiches, they are very yummy though you do need to be generous with the butter to waterproof the bread.
