Band Candy

Giles' take on the tough guy greaser was exceptionally good, especially for an Englishman who has no reason to be familiar with American culture. There are few Giles-centric episodes, but he steals the show here. This episode was one of the best.
 
I love the fact that he played the role amazingly ! The concept of the episode was entertaining and full of life.
 
Giles is one of my favorite character, so of course I love this episode! Such a good one!
 
I love this episode, but love it even more after hearing Robin Sachs and Anthony Head do a commentary on it, brings back so many funny memories!
 
It was live at a convention a few years ago, doubt it'll have been recorded

I don't know about no reason. American movies are popular all over the world. That's probably why he was so funny and over the top with it. He was emulating Hollywood movies he had seen growing up in England.
 
I'm not quite sure why we're saying that Giles is emulating anybody. The adults who are the candy reverted back to their teenage selves. Giles reverted back to his Ripper phase. Which we first saw & heard of in The Dark Age.

I love this episode. We got to see a truly different side of the adult characters on the show, and it was pretty freakin' hilarious. Anytime my husband does something stupid while driving (which is often) I always quote Snyder: "WHOA, Summers! You drive like a spaz!" LOL

I think my favourite part is:

Xander: 'I don't get this. The candy's supposed to make you feel all
immature and stuff, but I've had a ton, and I don't feel any dif ... Never mind.'

Oh, and now I'm thinking that Anthony Head could actually have played spike if he'd been a few years younger!

Giles and Joyice are amazing in this episode. I love when they sit and listen to music . I would love to hang out with giles that way haha 🙂

James Marsders has said that he used Anthony Head's real accent as reference for Spike. Anthony really talks more like Spike but used a more upper class accent as Giles because he felt it better suited an academic character like Giles. Marsders was really born and raised in the US.
 
This episode is one of my favorites and I think is one of the best comedy episodes of the series. A great addition to that season!
 
I completely love Giles in this episode.

A few years back there was a BtVS themed party at a bar in Stockholm. My then partner and I went as Joyce and Giles. She looked so much like Joyce (and had the cuffs and all 😛 ) and we were super cute/hot together.
