Bander vs. Bangel

Some of these combo-names are kinda lame, anyways, Buffy/Xander vs. Buffy/Angel

I think Bangel is much better because of the dramatic love these two shared and I think they make each other happy. Whereas Bander, to me it's just like Cangel, not a big fan of.

Bangel. Why?

First, at the time Buffy and Angel were together Xander was awful and disrespectfull to her feelings. He made some ugly coments about them. Because of his jealousy and hate on Angel, he lied to her and wasn't good friend in that time. He never tried to understand her, he judged her. Angel showed his jealousy of Xander earlier in the season 2, but never trashed him.
But over all, they're friends. Xander was there for her.. maybe he wasn't a big fan of Angel, or Spike in that matter, but he was there. He was a good friend in other situations she head to deal with. I would never trade their friendship for their relathionship.

Well Obviously Bangel is the much better 'ship. Just wanted to see if any of the Anti-Bangels would take the Bander side lol.
 
I'm not an anti-Bangel, but I do like Buffy/Xander more, especially if it happened in the later seasons or the comics. Buffy and Xander have grown and changed, they grew closer now, and they trust each other more than anything.

Unlike Angel and Spike, Xander can give Buffy a normal life -dates on the beach in the morning, a wedding, and children. And unlike Riley, Xander is completely okay with being the weaker one, doesn't have macho ego problems anymore, and accepted his limits.

About Xander's attitude before, he was a stupid teenager, and if we can forgive Angel and Spike for murder, we can forgive Xander for being an ass when he was 16. 22 years old Xander isn't like teenage Xander. And funnily enough Xander matured faster than Angel, who knew nothing about responsibility at age 26 –while Xander became the head of his own construction crew at 20.

I think my love for the idea of Buffy/Xander grew when I watched S7. They had this married couple vibe as well as being Dawn's parents and they did it well.
I wish Buffy told Xander about her feelings before he fell for Dawn, wish Joss explored the ship.

Well, Bander because it's new. I don't really want Bangel to be revisited unless it comes up with a new tagline.

I loved Bangel at the time. I even liked the Bangel crossovers but Bander would be something new and I have to say Xander is the only guy who's been there from start to finish. Of course this doesn't include fights and disagreements but that's normal in a friendship or relationship, but Xander was the guy at her side and that foundation (provided they are both in the same place emotionally) could be solid enough for a ship that could last, barring of course tragic death but you know, knowing Joss...
 
I just really hate the Bander ship in general. I agree that it's like Cangel. It just ruins a fantastic friendship by making it all romantic. They don't need that. Bangel is passion and beauty and while it's not my top ship, I do enjoy it. Bander is lame and annoying and gets in the way of the relationship that's *actually* important.
 
Buffy and Xander share one of my favorite friendships in the entire Buffyverse. I don't think that should be tainted by romance.

So, Bangel, obviously.
 
Even though I absolutely love Bangel, I always thought if Buffy was going to be with a human, no one could ever be better for her than Xander.
 
They should of atleast had an episode where Xander actually got to be with Buffy kind of like Something Blue with Spike just to give him something and see how it would look
 
I have no idea why, but my brain interpreted "Bangel vs. Bander" as "Xangel vs. Spander." Needless to say, I expected a very different debate.

I agree that if at least we had an episode that explored Buffy/Xander, it would have been great. 🙂

I just posted my reasons why I think Bander could have been greater than Bangel in a different thread... But in a nutshell, no one knows each other better than Buffy and Xander. They know each other so deeply, faults and all, and Xander never has to question his place in Buffy's life. He's always there to back her up and support her, but he'll also stand down when he needs to or call her out when she's being a bitca. Buffy loves and respects him for this. Not to mention, like someone else mentioned, that Xander would be able to give Buffy all the things Angel (and Spike) can't: regular dates, walks in the sun, marriage, children... They would be perfect together.
 
Bangel was great. It was real love, and pure love(well as pure as it can be). Bander is a little tricky though. I always thought they had no shot in hell getting together. Of course, that was turned down once s8 came around. I agree that Joss should have explored into that ship before taking a shot at Xander/Dawn. Ultimately it would just feel a bit awkward because Xander and Buffy are total opposite each other, but Joss could have proved us wrong. Anyways...I vote for Bangel
