Bangel Fan Fiction Rec Thread

Just some fic updates around the B/A fandom:

@Taaroko updated her AU Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 and she also updated Finding Joy in Your Longterm Relationship which is a sequel to World's Apart (I loved World's Apart so I'm going to get started on this one first!)

@Grace published a wonderful Angel-centric fic 5 Times It Rained on Angel (And Once When the Sun Shone) which features B/A perfectly.

I thought I had posted this story already here because I usually talk about it alot but I can't find it, so I'll post it now! This is a great WIP by @jilyandbambi called if you come softly and she has assured me that season 11 is in the works 🙂

I also want to recommend another WIP fic (I'm not sure I have yet) called Bruised, Broken, Torn by xxRomanceGirlxx - it is an interesting look at B/A. Please be warned that it is not a happy fic so far, full of angst as the author warns you. Also, there is a considerable amount of Cangel in this story but the last chapter of that story was very powerful and I can't wait for an update!

And then in a shameless self-plug, I wrote a little ficlet called Constant if ya'll want to check it out.

I just read Five Times It Rained On Angel (and Once When the Sun Shone) by @Grace and it's beautiful!!!

I really love the way the stories were tied together and I really took the time to immerse myself in each scene, it felt like I was watching it at the same time, with Angel's thoughts and feelings. Great work!

I finally read @Mrs Gordo 's new fic Constant and it was beautiful!!!

I'll just copy my comment from archivesofourown here :

Beautiful!!! It really captures their relationship and the setup reminds me of Forever (which I'm sure was intended). This is my favorite bit : "She looked down at their intertwined hands and let out a small breath she didn’t realize she had been holding. She pondered how long she had been holding it for. Years. Maybe." It's simple but very meaningful. It reminds me of her face lighting up and her whole body language when she sees him in EoD/Chosen.

I really wish I had more time to read fanfics. There are so many talented writers out there and I feel like I've only read maybe 1% of it all (and even probably less than that). I'm thinking of reading a minimum of 1 fanfic per week. I'll probably never catch up but it's better than nothing I guess...

I just finished reading Phoenix Burning, which was recommended several times at the beginning of the thread. Holy shit. It's amazing.

I'm actually a huge snob when it comes to fanfic. I won't read a fic unless it lives up to the standard of published fiction and I'll rarely read multi-chapter fic. But this story was incredible. The Buffy/Angel relationship was great and I loved the way the author worked Angel's changed personality into the mix and showed the realistic effects of him having lived another three hundred and fifty years and Buffy becoming more a memory than a real person (although, he still never forgot her, still remembered her as the love of his life). And Buffy's characterisation was great, as was her slow re-connection with Angel and the way they slowly came to rely on and work effortlessly with one another.

More than that, I loved the way the author wrote the Council and the way in which it changed but then reverted. It was such a great take on the Council and realistically portrayed so many of the issues within it. I particularly loved ...
... that they killed Faith in order to activate a new Slayer. It was such a horrifying thing but it worked so well in keeping with what we knew about the Council because it was something I 100% could see them doing. Also loved that Wes took over the Council and made it better and how he made Angel a member.

All up, just an amazing fic, one I am so glad I ended up reading. Although, I was a bit confused at how the author left Connor out. The canon divergence was from BtVS Season 5, which runs parallel to AtS Season 2, so technically Darla would have been pregnant at the point of divergence, yet no mention of Angel's son? Kinda wasn't thrilled by that omission. But that was really my only (tiny) complaint.

I'm almost certain it was originally written during the summer after Season 5 / Season 2. So there was no way for Yahtzee to know about Connor at the time.

I just read Quietus by St_Saliery and I loved it!! It's beautifully written, very in character and works well with whatever is happening on the shows. The last line made me want to curl up and cry. 🙁

I love that one too...in a sad way.
Has anyone ever read the story The Price We Pay For Love ? I was always fascinated by people doing IWRY fics that changed canon. I was never thrilled with 'Buffy ends up with a baby because...' or that this was Connor's conception or whatever other nonsense people came up with. But this one is different and utterly destroyed me. I could only read it once, not because it's bad or anything. But that's not how you would except a 'B/A have a baby' story to go. And the suffering of children always destroys me...

Hi guys! I'd like some recommendations for good post-The Gift grief fics about Angel dealing with Buffy's death. I've read many over the years but I can't recall titles so I'm hoping I can mine the brains of those of you with better memories!

I still haven’t found those fics and now I have another fic search this a B/A fic it was an all human universe I remember Buffy knew Angel since she was a kid and when she’s older her and Angel get together but not before Cordelia claims she’s pregnant with his child only to turn out its spikes baby and at the end Buffy and Angel have a baby girl

I just had a thought...

There are not nearly enough AU fics of the Watchers' Council first learning about and actually reacting to Buffy being with a vampire. Even if Giles likely left it out of his reports, they clearly did know about it as far as Wesley reporting to the Council, his presence during Faith's failed extraction and them refusing to cure him. Wesley was obviously totally in the dark about who Angel was until he heard his name in game face and wasn't aware of the relationship with the mystery man, so it appears Buffy and Giles managed to keep everything hidden from the Council until the back half of season 3! We did hear Kendra planning on not telling Sam Zabuto. From what we saw of the wetworks team, part of the depths Wesley had fallen had to do with him working for a vampire, along with their pointed refusal to help cure Angel of poison.

I've seen a handful of Bangelized Cruciamentum fics and I think one where everyone is taken off to England. Obviously, Phoenix Burning has Angel working with the Watchers in the distant future, but that's not them reacting to Angelus' proximity to the Slayer back when they were actually together.

I guess we're meant to assume it was Wesley that clued the Council in (ridiculously late and he might not have gotten the whole backstory by then beyond his identity, the soul backstory and perhaps a few snippets about the relationship), but I think it'd make good fodder for an AU fic to have them try to interfere in a much less restrained way and much earlier. Or to have the Watchers intervene as soon as they hear of it, likely when Wesley first learned in Bad Girls.

Do you think you could tell me the names of the Cruciamentum fics? I really like the concept, but I've only ever found Worlds Apart for Bangel.
