Woo-hoo! Yes! You know, we really did used to outnumber the Spuffy 'shippers, but we seem to have lost a few people since then. I'm really very disappointed. 🙁

I wouldnt personally define myself as any Shipper, simply because any decent story can be written creating a good relationship, and i think all of the relationships that happened when they did, had the right impact.
Bangel intrigued me simply because of the complexities, where Spuffy did the Bad Boy turned Good, which lets be honest, we have seen before, Bangel did the Bad boy, turned Good, go Evil then be good again, the sacrifice the relationship, which granted has also been done before, but i though this variation was rather unique.
I must also say, Cangel was another face of mine, because it had a far more natural feel, genuine progression from Leader and Assistant, to Champion and Champion all the way to, in my head, Hero and Hero, both worthy of that moniker.
I could go on......so i will
Ruffy or Briley too had its moments. When i watch this show again, taking out the over the top sex, i find this is a somewhat sweet way to let Buffy down after the heavy Bangel affair.
Wara or Twillow....yikes, Hours i could spend, so all i would say is, perfect in that at times it wasnt.
Wileddy or Kenow, gotta say this, right relationship, wrong time.
Xanya or Anyder was another favourite, i felt it progressed fluidly and felt right, i was a little disappointed when Hells Bells had finished, because in my mind, Xander had not displayed enough his worries.
Spuffy, well i loved this bubbling relationship up to Tabula Rasa, when they turned Spike into a Sex pest. Then after Entropy(?) i think it garnered steam again, allowing me to like it.
also, i could go on about Fresley, Welah, Frunn, Coyle...all in my opinion perfect at the time they were.

I think that Bangel was the only true love they were willing to sacrifice what they wanted for what the other person needed. Bangel is a great ship a true romance and it ended in the way all true love does in tragedy for what is love but the greatest of emotions. And there is no greater emotion then pain. They were perfect for each other in every way and they unlike other buffy shipps were truly in love.

Bangel is a near perfect fantasy. What girl doesn't dream about meeting a dark handsome stranger. What older guy doesn't fantasize about banging some 16 year old blonde?
The problem is fantasies soon becomes reality. Angel had his taste of the hot young chick, as soon as she got clingy, he hightailed it outta there.

To me it became evident that the Buffy/Angel relationship surpassed every other when they kept coming back to each other.
Whenever Angel heard Buffy was in trouble he went to her. When her mom died he went to her, etc.
She got that ring and immediately sent it to Angel, etc.
Granted....they are both doing their jobs but whenever they see each other the love between them is sooooo obvious!!! It lasts seven seasons....when Angel goes to help Buffy in the series finale and she kisses him passionately right away....it's so obvious.

suprise suprise, the hopless romantic Arabella is in fact a Bangel shipper...i know shock and awe. I didn't loathe that Spuffy thing tho. That was an interesting development, and I much prefer Fresley to all.

I remember when I first joined this board us Spuffy shippers were vastly outnumbered by the many Bangel shippers. All the people I rememeber as the hardcore Bangelians have since seemed to disappear, with the exception of one or two. I miss them. I'm sure many of the peopel who have been here much longer than me remember them. Spuffy fan myself, but I still love you Bangel shippers, even if you prefer Bangel over the greatness that is Spuffy! 😀 Please don't throw rocks at me.🙂

Okay, so I have this theory about the whole Bangel/Spuffy/Cangel thing.
It seems to me that people who watched the show from the first episode of the first season, or even the second season are more likely to be Bangel 'shippers.
But people who started watching Buffy during seasons 4-7 or even 3 and the ones that watched Angel before Buffy, are more disposed to being Spuffy or Cangel fans.
I think it also has a lot to do with the type of person you are.
Me, I'm a die-hard Bangel fan and have been since the first kiss. I've been around the boards for a while (as you can see in my Slayer Stats panel) and have defended my views quite vehemently, as some of you may remember 😉, and as the numbers of my fellow 'shippers dwindled, I stopped being so hot-headed and tried to listen to the opinions of others. They didn't sway me at all, but I listened.
I have a lot of problems with both the Spuffy and Cangel relationships. And I think that some people just ignore certain facts when defending these two relationships, but they are entitled to their opinion.
I would also like to add that this thread was not meant to bash Bangel, but for members who are fans to connect. Recently there has been a large amout of trolling on the boards and perhaps we could avoid having so much if people didn't act so antagonistic.
Lets try to keep this discussion civil and not let it resort to a post war.

Anita Blake: I think your generally pretty correct as far as people tend to lean towards Bangel or Spuffy or Cangel depending on when they started watching the show. I started watching in season four, and I have found that people who watched the Spuffy relationship before the Bangel relationship tend to ship Spuffy, like me. However people who watched the Bangel relationship first tend to ship Bangel. Of course their are exceptions, but I do find that interesting. Ok, now that I have said that I'll let you go back to your Bangel appreciation.:biggrin2:

I think I'm an exception. I watched the show ever since it first aired and I like Spuffy and Cangel better. Although Bangel had it's great moments, like The Prom and the end of the BtVS "Angel" ep, not to mention the episode "I Will Remember You" but I just found it too angsty for my taste. *looks at the Bangel shippers* Please dont hurt me...

I think that different types of people have different responses to certain stimuli (scenes on the show) that make them feel a certain way towards a certain element ('ship). Its probably how some of us grew up, you know the environment or our personal beliefs.
