Bangel Videos

I came to see if this one was in here yet but its not! I love this song so much and it's so perfect to the Buffy/Angel relationship.

I love the lyrics:
"All I have, all I need, he's the air I would kill to breathe....Out of breath, I am left hoping someday I'll breathe again."

Finally got a chance to watch this one. I loved it!

@WillowFromBuffy I'm so curious what your IWRY fic is going to look like. Will it be a dark take on Bangel?
I am so happy to hear that! 😀

Dark? It will certainly not be Shanshu and babies 😛 It is mostly done. Personally, I think it is sweet. I cannot give you too many hints, because the premise is rather simple. If you want to play Sherlock Holmes, there are plenty of hints in that video - both in the song's lyrics and the sound clips.

I really hope you will like it. I wrote one line for Buffy that I think is absolutely killer. That single line justifies the entire story for me 😛

Can't wait for November!
Yeah, I knew she didn't 'ship it, but I actually thought she hated it, which is why I was shocked she was making Bangel fanvids. LMAO. I appreciate it, though. And I know some major vidders who make it no secret that they are Spuffy/Cangel will occasionally branch out and make Bangel fanvids (many are quite great, too).

This is not really a Bangel-video, but it is my absolute favourite Buffy video and it is exclusively s1-3.
@dcai0830 @NileQT87
One of my most intense TV experiences was watching Graduation Day for the first time. I was so angry at Angel for breaking up with Buffy. Then Faith hits him with the arrow, and I was filled with rage. I was certain Buffy would kill her and that this would be the end of Faith. I calmed down a little bit after Buffy withdraws the knife and I saw her horrified face. A lot of my apathy towards Faith comes from that episode. Imagine when I watched Sanctuary for the first time 😡

The Bangel story is really great. I love almost every part of it, though I could never love Angel as a character quite as much as I love Spike. Compare their speeches in Helpless and Touched and it should give you an idea as to why 😛

Much prefer Angel and his influence on Buffy. He always pushed for her to connect with her human life, even if it was without him. He didn't want to see her inevitably destroyed by the world he's stuck in. Angel learning to be a selfless hero in his own right is also so much more positive and honoring of his relationship with Buffy than being a dependent lapdog who is selfishly keeping her in the dark. It's a shame she regressed so badly and ultimately did start to become more demon than human with little will to live, just as he feared. He wanted her to retain her humanity and to not give up her what she wanted out of life so she would have something left to live for.

Give me the speech about Angel wanting to protect Buffy's heart and being able to see her humanity (rather than the Slayer as an emotionless killing machine like they were supposed to be) any day over Spike putting her on a lofty pedestal that separates her from humanity. Making thousands more Slayers against their will didn't make her feel any less alone; it just reinforced her status as something other than human (also done against her will, which she used to have a problem with).

Angel could relate to seeing one's life and everything one had ever known change in an instant; having one's life taken away without any say in the matter. That's what he saw and empathized with when he saw her on the steps of Hemery, when she failed to stake her first vampire and when she cried as her parents' marriage collapsed before his eyes. He didn't see the oh-so-scary vampire killers of legend who are meant to strike fear into beings just like him, but rather a very sad human girl whose life would likely be painful, violent and short. Buffy was extraordinary not because she was a better Slayer, but because she refused to give up her humanity, family, friends, hopes for love, hopes for a future, etc... Buffy at the end was just a normal Slayer like all the others who gave up, had no hopes for a future and had nothing to live for.

Sorry @NileQT87 I was not trying to start an argument. I just needed to clarify my position on Bangel. I have certainly never said I hated it. If you use the search function, you will likely find that I have said nice things about Bangel and even Angel from time to time. This board has a tendency to polarise, and I could not give my unqualified support to any of Buffy's relationships. Still, I was very sad to see their relationship end the first time I watched s3 and I still get emotionally invested each time I watch the early seasons.

Hope you enjoyed those two Bangel videos. I'll scurry off now...

I know this is off topic but this is incredibly well said.

No, you don't have to go! I just had to compare the two speeches you plucked out and where Buffy was at those points in her life, because I see them quite differently. And as I said, I really did like your fanvids, even if they really surprised me. Yes, it does get super polarized in here, to the point where certain members making fanvids for the other side almost seems perplexing, even if I can think of numerous vidders on YouTube who make it no secret when they vid the other 'ship that their loyalties are different.

As for Buffy in Chosen... Sorry, I despise the message of the episode and feel it betrays what Buffy used to stand for. AtS season 5 (which could have been foreseen just with Faith's presence) and the ghastly comics only solidified my feelings that it was morally wrong and mythology-crippling for the franchise going further. AtS season 4's message in Peace Out of human free will is almost the exact opposite message of Chosen.

Believe it or not, I've made a Spike fanvid. 😀 I've made five Jossverse fanvids... all to Elvis songs. LMAO. But YouTube's copyright hell hates my music choices.

See! I vidded Spike (third one down)!

I love all the Elvis. He's the man.

I agree that her empowerment of the potentials is a morally questionable act, but I'm curious as to why you feel she had no hopes for the future and nothing to live for? I just didn't see that at all - that smile at the end!

What hopes did she actually have? The cookie dough speech where she pretty much doubts she'll ever live her own life beyond being just a child soldier (which she was and created more of herself)? The life she leads in the comics? Because I just see her in an endless loop of going nowhere with her life. She did other morally yuck things in season 7, as well, like what she told Spike in Get It Done (preferring the soulless him in the dead Slayer's coat to the one dealing with his guilt and shaming him to put his soulless costume and personality back on). She's been even worse in the comics. And everybody at Slayer Headquarters should be ashamed of what they did to the Fang Gang in AtS season 5 (despite the comics' desperate attempts to get the blame off Buffy because of how bad Giles and Andrew's actions are).

I don't see a lot of hope in Chosen. She might think there's hope after Sunnydale is gone, but she just did something horrible. The problem with her cookie dough speech was she doubts she'll have a human life. Young Buffy, on the other hand, used to fight back against her calling to retain every little bit of her human life she could. She even told the Council to go shove it and she was no longer their tool. While she wants to help because she can, she still had hopes and dreams before, even trying desperately to fit in normal things into her bizarre life. Sadly, she gave up most of them when Angel left. A lot of her dreams revolved around making it work out with him.

He also made her feel that some of the weight was being lifted off her shoulders because he could help her as an equal, but was also a comforting, wise figure she could turn to when she was hurting (one of the few people she really talked to about things like her parents' divorce and he was always there urging her to think about future aspirations like college and family--Angel always had a strong paternal instinct with lots of characters). He was even more so a help to her in L.A. in terms of taking care of evil she couldn't be everywhere for, given he was stopping as many apocalypses as she was. This him the most equal of any of her relationships, as he actually knew what she went through with that much stress and being the one everyone looks to to do everything.

In that regard, he failed to do what he had hoped by removing what he had believed had only made her miserable and was keeping her from the normal life she had previously always stated she wanted. I Will Remember You even reveals her lie to Angel that it didn't matter to her what he was, given she admits her fantasy was of them being normal. While he needed to set off on his own to find his own destiny and Buffy was being held back to some extent holding onto him desperately for that bit of normalcy, even if what he was got in the way of her achieving what she wanted with him. The thing is, she never really moved on and her next failures at love only reinforced how she didn't believe she was going to get what she wanted out of life anymore. Going back to a vampire relationship, even without the curse, is right back to running in place for her, while she completely refuses to face any of the reasons Angel always brought up with her for what he (and Spike) can never give her. Human relationships and vampire relationships are both dead ends for her for different reasons.

She wanted out of life in season 5, was happy she got it, loathed being back and while we get all these pretty scenes of her digging out of the dark and smiling in the sunshine, all she does after this point is more of the same; still running in place. Except she's now done what was done to her to thousands of others. She's now the Watchers' Council she had once rebuked when they ordered her around like a child soldier. She's no better than the Shadow Men she practically accused of being rapists.

The Scoobies, Fang Gang, Angel (who, like Buffy, never chose to be what he was) and Spike (with the soul, which is when he actually cared that people were suffering--getting the soul to get a girl back without regard to her feelings in the matter wasn't the noble part of what he did) chose to help because they wanted to with their eyes wide open about the risks. The Slayer spell wasn't a choice (just as being called wasn't a choice for Buffy either), but something done to the girls, who weren't prepared for the consequences and the spell wasn't indiscriminate either. How many more Danas are out there?
