well, Buffy and Angel both had larger casts than Supernatural starring in the show, so they likely used up the various archetypes earlier. And it was about eight or nine seasons into twelve total seasons of Buffyverse TV when the problem started up

Friends did great with Chandler and Monica as a relationship

Not to get completely off topic, but I actually preferred Richard and Monica. And they had a ton of chemistry. I never really bought the connection between Mondler.

Have BUFFY directly forgive Spike for the rape attempt (notice how the narrative ignores any other atrocities committed by Spike) and show her forgiveness by being Spikes recovery aide while the rest of the Scoobies hate on him. That is why you see the huge turn in how Buffy treats Spike at the beginning of "Him" when she coerces Xander to take Spike in.

I kind of feel like the show has a tendency to add a lot of issues to maximize drama and then boil it down to minimize time on it. Focusing on Angelus on why Buffy ran away, focusing on Willow skinning Warren, or Faith killing Alan Finch over so much other stuff
