Ok, so I'm sitting here watching Surprise (2x13) and I'm smiling to myself (ignoring what's coming up next) and thinking, "Aww, Buffy and Angel are so cute..."

Then I had to take a step back. Whoa. I mean whoa. I don't like Bangel. I'm a Spuffy. What the...what?

I've done about 5 rewatches, and I've never, ever like Bangel. Ever. It's been too slushy and annoyed me, but that hella caught me off guard!

Haha, I'm not saying I'm a convert, but I feel like I'm questioning something huge!

I love Spuffy still, but in this rewatch, his accent has begun to annoy me in season 2, it seems rather fake, which I've never, ever thought before.

This is very strange.

So what specifically is taking you off-guard? The events of Innocence & how it affects Buffy? Yeah, it pretty much changes her entire life & sure changes the direction of the season. But cheer up, we get some great Spangelus moments coming up, too! 🙂
 
No, no. I'm not thinking about Innocence at all, I just thought that they were really nice together, whereas normally, I really don't like that ship....however apparently I do now. Nawwww.

Just seen the thread "Jumping Ship" and I have a feeling this would fit in better there, although I'm not jumping ship.......yet!
 
Don't feel guilty. The story of Buffy and Angel at that time was kinda cute and even interesting. It's just that sometimes that cuteness is icky, too cutie. So then we can fast foward to the later episodes, to the real thing, which is the Spuffyness! THAT'S the good thing. So even if you feel like you like Bangel in the beginning of the rewatch, just remember that you will get to better things after that.

It's called "temporary insanity." You should be fine tomorrow. Drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest tonight, and watch the episode again tomorrow. I'm sure your bangelitis insanitias will be gone. 😀
 
Awww, no worries about liking Bangel, especially since you thought they were cute in season 2. 🙂 Hell, I think they're cute at times in s1 and s2. It's s3 where they start to annoy me. Plus, Spuffy wasn't even a possibility in s2.

Now, if you said you found Bangel cute and adorable after their kiss in "Chosen," and you're a Spuffy, I would have pulled a Cordelia. "What fricken' bizaro world did I wake up in?" 😉 🙂

Keep calm...and ship Spuffy!!! 😉 😀

I think that's normal. I can't consider the idea of Spuffy, but in Chosen, when she says to him that she loves him, I go awww.. quietly, in my self, but I still do go awwww.

I can take it a lot better than you can take Spuffy.

As I've said on several occasions, I have no problem whatsoever with Bangel in its time and context. Well, the Angelus bit's not so pleasant, but I guess it's all part of the package. The tall, dark, mysterious stranger with the troubled, tragic past, struggling to atone for past, unspeakably horrible sins, who is drawn out of his dark, self imposed prison by the love of an innocent young girl. Who becomes her companion, her protector, her lover, and then...oops! No more Mr Nice Guy. But never fear, kiddies, our hero comes back in the sequel, reformed, rejuvenated, and even more troubled and with even more unspeakable acts to br troubled about than before. Harlequin Romances couldn't tell the tale any better. With a first love like that, no wonder Buffy went running into Parker's arms.

But, all jokes aside, as a teenager's idea of first love, it's a really beautiful, if tragic story, well written and excellently portrayed. Taking it as what it is, I have no problem shipping Bangel for the first three seasons of the show. The relationship is actually vital to the rest of the series. First love, especially as was shared by Buffy and Angel, is always important, even vital to a show such as this, and for one very specific reason.

Without first love, there can be no second love, or third, or fifteenth. First love is the foundation on which everything from then on throughout the series and the character's development depends. By letting that first love run its course, realizing when it has reached its conclusion, and moving to the next relationship, the character grows, matures, and is better able to face the day when the show is canceled and they find themselves unemployed once more. Without Buffy's relationship with Angel, then with Riley, and finally with Spike, Sarah would never have been able to move on into Scooby Do and the rest of her life.

(Y'all will have to excuse me, I accidentally took a double dose of Nuvigil this morning, and the world has taken on a whole new light)

Ok, there have been too many Spuffies jumping ship lately. Bangel's cute... but in the long run Spuffy is it. I sometimes go "awww" watching seasons 1 and 2. They ARE cute sometimes. As a Spuffy, you're allowed to think that. Just wait till you get to Spuffy in this rewatch before you claim Bangel as your ship.

Hey. I'm a pretty hardcore Spuffy but I still definitely can appreciate Bangel in the in earlier seasons. There is adorableness there. Plus, David isn't so bad on the eyes, that's for dang sure. The way they unfold is great too. Particularly season 2, it's a great story arc and a great metaphor for what happens with first loves sometimes. It can all fall apart pretty horrifically, even if the guy doesn't turn into a souless vamp.

I've even been considering doing some Bangel artwork. *gasp!
But I've got to get a few more Spuffys out of my system first. 😀

Don't worry. Since Spuffy was born, there had been more and more spuffies than Bangels. The spuffyness is just spreading! I mean, I hadn't made a poll or something, but see how there are more Spuffy sites on the web, and if you ask people, I'm more than sure most of them will tell you they're spuffies. 😀

You'd be surprised by how many Bangels actually exist. You may not see us as much, but believe me, we are there.

As for the site thing, I just Googled Bangel and got 1,580,000 results and then Googled Spuffy and got 1,320,000.

So, who knows really? I don't think it is definitive by any stretch of the imagination.
 
Numbers don't matter to me. Quality over quantity! 😀

Actually, even if there are less Spuffy fans than Bangel fans, I can't help but think of the St. Crispin's Day speech.
