Bangels-- About Spike

Up until season 4 I really enjoyed Spike. Afterwards, I didn't. The same thing happened with Willow, I loved her until I didn't anymore.

Hah, this reminds me of a song by Regina Spektor. And that's all I had to say, really.
I love Season 2 Spike. He's amazing. Funny and awesome, and I love him with Dru. Evil and all.. grrr argh. His guest appereance in Season 3 was cool, he was sad and all tortured but in the funny way. Season 4, liked him, wasn't my fav character but had nothing against him. Season 5 he was ok, Season 6 I couldn't stand him and in Season 7.. like he wasn't there.

Another question: if you like/ed Spike, what do you dislike about him falling for Buffy? Is it because you favor B/A (conflict), or because you don't think it was good or Spike's character (he was better evil), or something else?

Maybe it's one little small part because I'm Bangeler, but I had no problems with Briley. I just liked Spike better evil, he was a better character back then, him wanting Buffy just ruined his character because he became tortured soul.

Like PB, I was OK with Briley. I mean it was what it was. With Spike though the character became less and less interesting (and in my opinion likable) the more obsessed with Buffy he became. I just really enjoyed his approach to being a vampire before he was chipped. Also, I thought his and Dru's relationship had alot more meat on it than what it was given. I really think he turned his back on her rather easily, given their past and the seemingly much more serious issues they had faced. I think the character would have been better served if he had actual gotten back with Dru (and possibly Darla) in S5. Image how they could have terrorised Angel? Or what crossovery goodness could have come out of it.
 
I'm a crazy crazy Bangel but I really like Spike's character. He's incredibly funny and his character went through quite a journey. Loved him most in season 2,4 and 7. ..I just don't like Spuffy. LOL

That isn't really the point. Vamps haven't been known to be exactly faithful. I mean look at Darla: it's quite clear how much she cared about Angelus yet she had her affairs too (like with the Immortal).

Plus... well, Dru is insane 😛
 
I think it's easier to like Angel independently of Bangel than it is to like Spike independently of Spuffy. Spuffy more or less became Spike's character, in a way; she was the cause of his choices, his crimes and his changes. That said, I find the "liked him when he was evil!" line a bit wearing. If Spike had stayed that way, he wouldn't have been in the later Seasons because, like others have said, there's only so far a character like that can go. I understand disliking the direction his development took, but to dislike that he developed at all doesn't seem logical to me.

I could have done without him the later seasons, simply because the Spike I enjoyed was gone. Yes, it is very illogical. In fact this is me holding up both of my illogical hands but I seem to recall you having similar feelings for post-high school Willow and not liking her progression and new direction too? Same principal. Just because a character (apparently) moves on doesn't mean we have to like where they go.
 
Spike is cool, loyal ,a rocker and funny. And he keeps those qualities whether he is evil or good. I liked him in season 2 and season 4. In season 5 I wasn't sure what happened to him. And in season 6, I hated seeing him on screen. It's not the spuffy part...it's the part which makes him lose his personality. I also liked him in Angel season 5.
 
As a Bangel and a Spuffy i'am not sure if i can comment in this thread but i liked everything about Spike.

In the early seasons he was really evil but still came across as being hilarious and a generally really entertaining character who was unique.

His return in "Lovers walk" made the episode resemble a comedy show and he was just so likeable, the way he behaved, his bluntness etc.

In season 4 once he gets the chip he arguably becomes even more entertaining. He can't hurt anyone so a lot of the evilness is taken away yet he makes up for that by constantly giving the season a comedic outlook which was really refreshing and just great to watch in my eyes.

In season 5 his devotion to Buffy didn't make him pathetic in my eyes. The two of them had a connection and Spike exploring that didn't make me suddenly not like him. The situation mirrored how he pined after Dru after all so i didn't see it as him changing that much.

Spike has always been gripped and obsessed by love and that carried on into season 6. The fact he was consumed by Buffy made sense considering what had happened to him. It was a way of keeping the character in the show and an interesting development for me.

True, and yes, I completely dislike Willow by the time Season 6 and 7 roll around. And it makes sense to dislike the direction a character's development took. I was just pointing out that if Spike had stayed evil, he would not have evolved, and if he had not evolved, he wouldn't have lasted very long.

Kelsey's right, though. Spike's love for Buffy has influenced the direction his character has gone so much. It is difficult to discuss Spike without discussing Buffy. Yet, the same could be said for Angel...after all, she was the girl who inspired him to her a Hero.

I don't know about other, but I don't hate Spike, my opinion is that his character is better when he's evil. When he became in love with Buffy, in season 5 he was still funny, in season 6 I was mad at both of them but they still had their good moments, and in season 7 I didn't cared is he in the show or not because all the things I loved about him disappeared. Same goes for Willow.
 
I don't hate Spike either, I've already mentioned that.

If I'm honest, I think I prefer "evil" Spike only because I love S2. It's just classic Buffy. I love where all of the characters are at during that season, that's why it's my favorite.

True, but Angel had a whole show where he was allowed to be Angel. Just Angel, with no Buffy constantly attached and guiding his character. That helped a lot to separate him from her, and to make it possible for even people who hated Bangel to like Angel.
