It has come to my attention that many Buffy/Angel shippers also ship Buffy/Angelus, including myself. What do you think of this darker version of Bangel? Do you ship it equally, more, less, or not at all? Do you believe that Angelus loved Buffy?


I will offer up some evidence that Angelus did love Buffy:
- He watches her sleep. I could stop there.
- His every thought and action is devoted to her.
- When he returns in AtS S4, he is dissappointed to learn that the slayer in town is Faith, not Buffy.
 
Oh good initiative, I must confess that this ship has always struck my fancy in a dark kind of way.

It's not really a healthy love there, I know that, he's obsessed with her (insanely so) and she's well, she's rather obsessed with him as well. It's all about the two of them all the time but the chemistry... rah! It's hot.
Angel always keeps his passion for Buffy in check, Angelus doesn't...

In fanfics I used to love reading alternate endings to s2 where Angelus eventually turns Buffy. Because lets face it, while she's still human the two of them would never have worked. Not in the long run, because Buffy knew it was wrong to lust after him.

I wouldn't say Angelus LOVES Buffy. I know he's obsessed with her, but obsession is not the same is love. I don't think a human Buffy and Angelus would ever have worked, but if Buffy was ever vamped, they'd be TOTALLY hot together. I think they'd be the complete opposite of Bangel. While Bangel is soft, romantic and sweet, I think Bangelus would be hard, kinky, and erotic.

I'm not a HUGE Bangelus fan, but the reason why I ship them is because I belive that Angel loved Buffy so much, that not even Angelus could remove that feeling. Angel's soul was taken away from him, the part where he kept most of his feelings, but memories Angel and Buffy had remain in his brain. And that hunted Angelus, they hunted him so much that she became this obsession of his, he couldn't stop thinking about her and in one way he did loved her. In this sick way he knew to love. How he loved Drusilla.. he was obsessed. They hurted him in his mind, drived him to madness so he wanted to hurt them phisically. And that moment they shared in IOHEFY is just beautiful.. few seconds when memories hipnotized him and when she belived Angel is back.

I think Angelus was in love with Buffy just from the quote, "you're still all he thinks about". Even though Angel lost his soul he still had Buffy on his mind twenty-four seven. He could get rid of the soul but he could never get rid of the feelings.

Yes, but he could have her on his mind because he was obsessed - not in love.
Angelus knew how much Angel loved Buffy and I think that intrigued him and made him obsessive when it came to Buffy. I don't know that Angelus was capable of love but he was very passionate about her. I will always ship Bangel but Bangelus is fun to ship as well, just not in a serious way 🙂

What do I think of this darker version of Bangel? Well, it's miles more interesting than the regular varsion, but no, I don't 'ship them. I don't 'ship Buffy with anyone but Spike. And no one belonged with Angel but Cordelia. Now, he belongs on his own (but that's for another thread).

No, I do not think Angelus was in love with Buffy. Sure, he was infatuated and obsessed with her, but I don't believe that he had the capacity to love - even if he wanted too.

I know we argue a lot around here if Buffyverse vampires have the abilty to love. And honestly, I'm on the fence on this issue. One one hand, Drusilla said they could. But, Spike claimed to love buffy pre-soul and then he raped her. There are compelling arguments on each side. I want to believe Spike loved Buffy pre-soul, and many of his actions prove that. As for Angelus, he only caused Buffy pain and suffering. He got off on being cruel to her.

So I guess the real question is; do you believe the vampires without souls in the 'verse have the abilty to love? If so, you probobly believe Angelus loved her.

Are you confusing love with infatuation? I don't doubt that Angelus had a fixation with Buffy, but his desire was to hurt her. Hardly a loving gesture.

I think Angelus did love her but it would have been one unhealthy relationship, abusive and scary obviously. So I wouldn't approve of it but he does state in one episode 'to kill this girl, you have to love her' so he does actually admit it. I agree with others opinions on here too though, that he was very obsessed with her too, which can be confused for love but I think he felt both 🙂
 
Not really. While it's true that Angelus was always thinking about Buffy, every move he did was calculated to tourment and hurt her, where as Angel did everything to love and protect her.


And every feeling that Buffy had was for Angel, and she always hoped that deep down inside Angelus that there was still a bit of Angel left, so i don't think, atleast in my opinion, that there was any feeling of love either way.

Points against that.

He watched Joyce sleep, did he love her? Simple mind games. He did the same with Willow with her fish, and with Joyce to get to Buffy.

His every thought was calculated to hurt her, she was always in his mind because he thrived off the pain he inflicted upon her physicaly and mentaly.

Again i think that was because he couldn't torment her, and he would have seen it as a 'game' to be played with her.
 
I LOVE Bangelus, but I don't think that it would work out unless like [MENTION=8356]HisMrs[/MENTION] said she was vamped. I feel like some of the emotions that Angel had transferred over to Angelus when he lost his soul. Angelus had many chances to kill Buffy and her friends but he never did. I think that for a physco vampire on some level that does count as caring.
 
I definitely don't ship Buffy/Angelus. I'm Buffy/Angel and Angelus/Darla. I don't even want to think about vamp Buffy/Angelus, because so many things would have to go horribly wrong for that to happen. And I don't believe Angelus loved her. I don't think *any* soulless vampire is capable of love, no matter what claims they make to the contrary. I agree with whoever said that Angelus was haunted by the memories of Angel's feelings for Buffy, but they were just that: memories. He can't produce those feelings without the soul. All that's left is obsession, lust, and frustration over the ghost of the soul's feelings. And those are certainly sufficient to drive a previously very even-minded vampire insane enough to want to send the whole world to hell if doing so would free him of them.
 
I've never thought about Buffy/Angelus as a ship, I can see were people are coming from. I dont think Angelus loved Buffy, I think he was certainly obsessed with her. Maybe you could draw some similarities between the Buffy/Angelus obsession and the Spike/Buffy relationship.

I do love that Angelus calls Buffy ''Buff'' though.
 
It sounds pretty unfeasible to me, Angelus has no humanity, so I don't think he's capable of loving human Buffy.

Perhaps if she was vamped but I don't like the idea of vamp Buffy.
 
I cant imagine Buffy as a vampire either, but Spike's obsession with Buffy started when she was soulless. (cant believe I'm typing that in a Bangel forum!).

Now, before you all have a heart attack seeing me in here, let me explain. I'm not here to bash B/A, of course. I'm here to discuss B/A (Hold it! Don't faint!).

Why, you ask, have I taken a sudden interest in B/A? Well, all this Season 9 speculation is frankly giving me a headache. And I've been snowed in and banned from work for days, so I thought I'd re-watch me some S3 eps. That got me thinking about Bangel.

Of course Angelus loved Buffy. Does anyone believe he didn't? I see Angelus' love of Buffy as very similar to Spike's love of Buffy pre-soul; it was obsessive, and sinister, there was an agenda sure, but it was real. Absolutely.

That said, I'd like to ask a question of you all - Imagine the series at it's finale. How do B/A fit into this? Are they together or not? In what respect? Do they live or die? Please write your ideal "endgame" for your ship. 🙂
 
Honestly, I rather not even imagine this. Kind of gross and perverted , and not my cup of tea. I mean, I sort of enjoy Angelus and Darla scenes, but exactly because I know how ultimately wrong what is going on is, and how it is *not love* but the other side of it, kind of like the other side of the moon. And I don't like to travel there consciously or by choice.

PS

Angelus' 'love' for Buffy IMHO is best compared to Harth 'love' for his twin Fray.
