Any Street/Graffiti art fans?

Banksy's been busy is Los Angeles this week; he has confirmed four new pieces so far.

It's hardly a normal "for your consideration" Oscar campaign, but the street artist Banksy has been busy in Los Angeles this week. Since Monday he's left several pieces of art on walls and billboards around town -- and while one was quickly removed by the owners, the others are still out there as unusual reminders that Banksy's first movie, "Exit Through the Gift Shop," is nominated for Best Documentary Feature.

You beat me too it! I was gonna post this last night but was too tired. I love Banksy. His style is so distinct. The more he does the better in my opinion.

I love Banksy. He's from my city so he's a bit of a local legend. His exhibition was amazing as well, people queued up outside the museum and around the corner nearly every day to see his work. Impressive!

I may not be a fan of Banksy's art work but I do love his style for going all out and making peoples heads turn. Whats more intriguing about this guy is that nobody knows who he is, it makes his work twice as interesting.

I loved it! I think that's what really made me start liking him. I don't know if it deserves the Oscar, but we'll see! 😀

Awesome, I've liked him for quite some time now and was excited when it came out. I don't know that its Oscar worthy either, but win or lose I doubt it's any sweat off his back. 🙂

I like his style, and I can respect that grafitti is art but what he is doing is vandalism, plain and simple. What about the graphic artists who designed things like those billboards? He's ruining their work to display his. It's wrong, an really disrespectful to the person who designed those ads. I really like his style, but I think he should get a sponsor and open a gallery instead of defacing other people's property.

Not that it makes it right, but that's kinda his point. Here is a quote from his book Wall and Piece:

A Wall has always been the best place to publish your work.

The people who run our cities don't understand graffiti because they think nothing has the write to exist unless it makes a profit, which makes their opinion worthless.

The people who truly deface our neighborhoods are the companies that scrawl giant slogans across buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy their stuff. They expect to be able to shout their message in your face from every available surface but you're never allowed to answer back.

I have mixed feeling about what is and isn't vandalism; especially when it comes to Banksy. Some of his work certainly is; but I don't think he really did any harm to that billboard. For the record, a spokesman for Light Group released a statement saying:

"We thought it was really flattering," says Beth Bartolini, director of public relations. "We picked a great spot for our billboard, and he thought so too. It was one of our generic billboards. It's much cooler to have Banksy tag it." source

I adore Banksy. I love his style of art and have so much admiration for someone that can display his opinion in an artistic and hard hitting way.

I love the quote regarding companies vandlising my streets with slogans and advertising.

What is the difference between an ugly advert and ugly scrawls? As Banksy says, the only real difference is money. Personally I find Banksy's art to be art. I do not find a giant MacDonalds billboard to be very pleasant to the eye, and so many adverts have agendas that I don't agree with.

Banksy is a legend. Pure and simple.
