Jason Momoa Playing Aquaman in 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice'

Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa will take on the role of Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, sources tell THR.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news that Momoa was in talks to join the film in December. Since then, the actor has been cagey about revealing what role he would play or if he was even going to appear in the film, as the whole project has been shrouded in secrecy. Warner Bros. and reps for Momoa declined to comment.

Zack Snyder is directing Dawn of Justice, which is currently shooting and slated to hit theaters May 6, 2016. The film stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Israeli supermodel Gal Godot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.

Dawn of Justice also stars Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are reprising their roles from Man of Steel.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is written by Chris Terrio from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Goyer, Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Aquaman is a founding member of the Justice League, so it makes sense that he would appear in Warner Bros.' film along with several other founding members, and again in the Justice League film, which will shoot back-to-back with Dawn of Justice. Arthur, King of Atlantis, is the ruler of the Earth's oceans and has super strength and the ability to communicate with sea life.

Momoa played the barbarian leader Khal Drogo in the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones, as well as Conan in 2011's Conan the Barbarian. He most recently starred on SundanceTV's series The Red Road and made his directorial debut with Road to Paloma. He's attached to direct and star in a fighting drama titled Kane, and is repped by APA, Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin Nilon and Entertainment and Edelstein, Laird & Sobel.

HitFix first reported the news that Momoa would play Aquaman.

I don't get it. This actually sounds like a great casting choice and I'm glad Aquaman is getting a push in other media. What's turning you guys off?

Okay, I have to say that I have never fallowed Aquaman as a character and have no clue what he's suppose to look like or act like...having said that, this casting seems interesting. Jason Momoa has such a unique look, if he plays the role well he could become really iconic. He has such a memorable face, I like this.

I was intrigued about Batman coming into it, and then I was prepared to give Ben Affleck a chance but almost everything since then has gradually added to this general bad feeling. Plus, I keep thinking they'll announce something that'll convince me everything will be OK, but it never quite happens (or, it hasn't yet, hopefully it will at some stage).

Ah, gotcha. I admit to being a little worried myself, if only because I actually prefer the DC characters to Marvel and really want this to be successful so I can see more of my favorite characters get a push in other media. I'm mostly worried that this thing will be way too crowded, but I think BvS will primarily be about Supes and Bats, with WW in a supporting role and the rest just being early cameos for JL. At least I hope.

I also seem to be one of the few who enjoyed MoS more than most of the Marvel movies, which all seem more like really long commercials to me than movies. "Avengers" being the only one I really love (because, well, Joss😎)

Aquaman is often unfairly treated as a joke, so I find it amusing/awesome that they got the intimidating Khal Drogo to play him.

I don't know the actor or anything about aquaman other than a few cartoon drawings of the character but I think the actor that plays Finnick in Catching Fire sounds like he'd be a god fit for aquaman. This doesn't stop me from seeing the movie mostly because I want to see how Ben Affleck does as Batman.

As time goes on I'm caring about this movie less and less.

This is turning from a fairly simple Batman vs. Superman movie to a 'backdoor' pilot/set-up for Justice League, and Iron Man 2' (a weak film imo) was heavily critised for exactly the same thing ('cause it had Nick Fury and Black Widow in it) by being 'Avengers The Prequel'

We have new Batman plus WW, plus Aquaman (and although I like Jason Momoa, I can't stand Aquama dull as anything) which feels like overstuffing an already risky venture for the sake of expediancy.

I can't see this film being anything but a big risk that could very .easily go wrong.

Plus, I loathed 'MoS' and the 'Nolanification' of Supes doing a Bruce Wayne and then murdering somebody, so I'm not a fan of the writers behind this.

Great casting, just not happy he's also in Man of 'Setting up Justice League' 2.

I love the idea of him being Aquaman, it already creates a great image of Aquaman just based off his GoT characters. Gives me hope they'll create a really strong character, they should do to Aquaman what Iron Man was to Marvel in taking a smaller character (he's no superman or batman) and give him a really strong movie.

He was excellent on Baywatch Hawaii 😀 so I'm sure he can pull it off. He fits my image of Aqualad (Kaldur’ahm) more than Aquaman though.

I like the actor, but I strongly suspect I am going to hate this feel even more than MoS, which was shockingly bad, IMO
