I can list at least ten things that make each season great; I can list more but I'll let other posters add on things that they think make certain seasons great. As the posts grow, the best season(s) should emerge. You can list whole episodes and/or specific moments, characters, scenes etc..
SPOILERS (obviously)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Season 1
1.Buffy, Xander & Willow are so young and adorable together.
2.Buffy & Angel do have good chemistry in Season 1- before things got way too heavy.
3.Witch is a great introduction episode to Amy Madison.
4.The Puppet Show gives us the great one episode character of Sid!
5.The Pack is a great high school monster of the week episode dealing with the timeless theme of bullies.
6.Out of Sight Out of Mind- another great high school monster of the week dealing with another form of bullying.
7.Snyder is the definition of a love to hate character.
8.The 90's nostalgia fashion, technology, etc. is so fun!
9.Jenny Calendar in the Scooby Gang.
10.Buffy dies but comes back and kicks the Masters ass!
Season 2
1. Cordelia becomes part of the Scooby Gang
2. Intro of Oz (underrated presence in the Scoobies)
3. Amazing & hilarious Valentines Day episode Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered.
4. Amazing finale with Becoming 1 & 2.
5. Jenny Calendar's shocking death in Passion.
6. Angel turning into Angelus after sex was the most perfect villain.
7. Buffy blows up the Judge with a rocket launcher in Innocence.
8. John Ritter guest stars as a murderous robot in Ted.
9. Intro to everyones delicious favorite Spike.
10. Intro to the amazing character of Drusilla.
Season 3
1. FAITH
2. The Mayor is rather enjoyable.
3. Earshot is perfection.
4. The Wish is mind blowing.
5. Doppelgangland is perfection & mind blowing.
6. Enemies ... another killer episode overall.
7. Bad Girls is so much fun!
8. Homecoming is hilarious.
9. The Prom ends so heartwarmingly.
10. Graduation Day 1 & 2 is an amazing finale and end to the high school years.
Season 4
1. Hush
2. Restless is artful & not a conventional finale.
3. Spike is at his most funny this season overall.
4. Spike & Buffy in Something Blue gives me life!
5. This Years Girl/Who Are You? = masterpiece(s)- (made better still with Five x Five & Sanctuary)
6. Sundays bitchy lines
7. Buffy embarrassing the hell out of Professor Walsh in The I in Team.
8. Giles turning into a demon in A New Man is brilliant.
9. Pangs is a hilarious and perfect Thanksgiving episode.
10. Riley vs. Angel in The Yoko Factor.
Season 5
1. Dawns intro was pretty mind blowing.
2. Tara & Willow floating in the Bronze in Family.
3. The Body is devastating but so necessary.
4. Glory is fun to watch.
5. The Magic Box is great new HQ.
6. Buffy in Intervention "You guys couldn't tell me apart from a robot?"-_-
7. Fool for Love / Spike back story
8. Amazing fight sequence in Spiral
9. Amazing fight sequence in The Gift
10. Buffy jumping in The Gift makes me cry.. happy cry though because she's a hero and I know she comes back.
Season 6
1. Buffys resurrection is dealt with very deftly throughout the entire season.
2. Xander bringing Willow back from the brink in Grave is so beautiful.
3. Willow's breaking down at the end of Wrecked makes me cry- Alyson's acting is amazing.
4. "Real Life is the Big Bad"(Sex or Drug addiction, Fast Food, Cold Feet on Wedding) is the most timeless theme that makes this season the most re-watchable.
5. Tara is at her best this season... until Seeing Red -_-
6. Buffy & Spike's affair is a true train wreck that I can't take my eyes off of.
7. Some nice closure for Riley Finn in As You Were.
8. Buffy breaking down in Tara's lap in Dead Things breaks my heart.
9. In Life Serial, Buffy stuck in time loop in the Magic Box is hilarious every time.
10. ONCE MORE WITH FEELING
Season 7
1. Call back to the High School Years.
2. The potential slayer storyline was a good idea, even if executed poorly.
3. Cassie is an interesting character, even if she doesn't last. 🙁
4. Willow redeems herself for her Season 6 mess.
5. Selfless finally gives Anya her back story.
6. Conversations with Dead People is a fantastic episode overall.
7. Him is a hilarious throw back to Bewitched Bothered & Bewildered.
8. Faith's back!!
9. Soulful Spike is dreamy.
10. Buffy finally feels free by the end of Chosen.
Angel
Season 1
1. Cordelia in Rm w/a Vu (+Phantom Dennis backstory)
2. Faith in Five x Five, Sanctuary (& Buffy) is epic
3. Jeremy Renner as Penn in Somnambulist
4. Intro to Lilah in The Ring
5. Intro to Gunn in War Zone
6. Cordelia & Doyle are cute together
7. I love that Wesley comes back into the picture and is actually likable
8. Pregnant Cordelia in Expecting is a great monster of the week dealing with One Night Stands.
9. Liam flash backs in The Prodigal
10. To Shanshu in L.A. - tight finale with awesome Darla cliffhanger.
Season 2
1. DARLA (in general)
2. DARLA AND DRU!
3. Cordy & Harmony in Disharmony is funny
4. Wesley in Guise will be Guise is also funny
5. Love Gunn becoming part of the group
6. Love Gunn, Wesley & Cordy sticking together after Angel fires them in Reunion
7. Anne in The Thin Dead Line- another underrated monster of the week episode
8. Flashbacks in Darla & Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?
9. Darla & Lindsey have AMAZING chemistry
10. The Pylea Arc is silly fun! (Meanwhile Buffy is dying thanks to a hell goddess)
Season 3
1. Darla is back with a vengeance
2. Connor's existence is interesting.
3. Lilah with "Angel" in Carpe Noctem is hot
4. Waiting in the Wings is a beautiful episode
5. Billy is terrifying.
6. Fun to meet Freds parents
7. Holtz is an interesting, complicated villain
8. Birthday is a great episode for Cordy lovers, even though I hate that she chose to become part demon.
9. The Price is a great monster of the week, breather episode.
10. Last Season with the core of Angel,Cordy,Gunn,Wes,Fred & Lorne relatively happy and intact..until Sleep Tight of course.
Season 4
1. Gwen Raiden is a crazy, sexy & cool character
2. Faith back in the mix
3. ANGELUS
4. Wesley & Lilah - amazing chemistry & dialogue
5. The Beast is the most impressive monster design on either show.
6. Jasmine is a complex, interesting & deeply scary villain.
7. Amazing serialization between episodes, yet they all stand out.
8. Action in Apocalypse Nowish
9. Freaky AF Beast & Zombies in Habeas Corpses
10. Great finale that finishes up the season relatively nicely and leads the way for the very different Season 5
Season 5
1. SPIKE!
2. Harmony! As a receptionist! 🙂
3. Illyria
4. Some decent closure for Cordelia in You're Welcome.
5. Smile Time is genius
6. Harmony's line "What I don't get a goodbye just because I went crazy and tried to rip your throat out during sex?"
7. The holding dimension for Lindsey & Gunn in Underneath is terrifying & hilarious.
8. Fight scenes in Shells.
9. Perfect finale
10. It's cool that this is the only televised season to take place after BtVS was over.
