Battlestar Galactica-Measure of Salvation Dilemma

In the last Battlestar Galactica episode, A Measure of Salvation, the topic of whether it is okay to kill off all the Cylons using a virus was okay. I wondering what your thoughts were on that.
Personally, I don't care if they are robots. Genocide is genocide. Apollo says that it's okay because they're robots. It seems wrong to say that because they are, they don't get rights. And it would make the humans no better than the cylons.

I've just seen the 1st season. The Cylons are sentient, right? Whether they're robots or not is irrelevant. They're trying to wipe out all humans everywhere, is that right? So the Cylons are an existential threat to humanity. Unless humans can actually negotiate with them, I'm tempted to say do whatcha gotta do to survive...

Or do the Cylons just want to dominate, subjugate humans?

Given that the Cylons were more than happy to attempt to wipe out humanity I'd say that there is a strong case to repay the favour.

That said, whilst I'm in favour of the death penalty in extreme cases (as I've said in the Saddam thread), genocide is a different question altogether. Especially as the Galactica crew have come to understand that not all Cylons are the same and many actually may have had little or nothing to do with the decision to attack the twelve colonies.

I think that the virus should be used only as a way to force the Cylons to the table. If they are aware that there is a method to destroy their entire "species" then I'd imagine that they would be much more likely to talk peace.

Also, Boomer is far too hot to be killed! 😉

Dzhug, if there was one tv show that I would recommend to anyone to watch it's Battlestar Galactica. It is just an amazing example of what television could and should be.

And it's not just a question of morality. You also have to consider that Boomer is hot! 😉

Oh yeah, I forgot...the sleeper Cylons don't even know they're Cylons, right? Poor bastards. Boomer is hot.

Without having seen any of S3, as I understand it, the only reason the Cylons haven't finished the job and wiped the remainder out is because of Six and Eight's Save The Human movement. So there's dissent among the Cylons, who could easily have snuffed out the caravan whenever they felt like it, but didn't.

But then, I for one welcome our new, attractive robot overlords. Yay Cylons.


This is kind of like the Hiroshima dilemma.

I haven't seen much of S2 and none of S3, but from S1...wow this sure is a moral dillema.
