Alright. So I'm thinking of watching it. It's gotten to this point where so many people have suggested it to me I pretty much have too give it a try.

Who has seen it? Is it any good? Should I watch it?

I have finished Weeds and Smallville and it's time for a new show to get invested in I say...

PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!!

I haven't seen it, but I can tell you I've heard nothing but great things about it. It's been on my must-see list for awhile, and I'm definitely going to shell out the cash for some of the early shows as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I've been low on funds for awhile and it may take me awhile to catch back up to where I was. But I definitely want to see this show too, and if the hype is to be believed, we won't be disappointed. And when has hype ever led anyone astray?

I was in the same boat as you, in that I avoided it forever and people were always saying how good it was, and I knew I should watch it but just never did.

So I've now watched the miniseries that started it off, and it's really really good. So I would highly recommend checking that out (I think it's about 3 hours, maybe less) and that will let you know if you like it or not.

🙂

The miniseries? Was that from the 70s? I looked it up online and I'm kind of confused how to watch it. Ot the one that started in 2003?

The 2003 miniseries is the one you're looking for.
It took me a while to get started but I finally got around and watched it. And the good thing with that is of course that you can watch a lot when you feel like it, instead of having to wait for next week all the time. I like it, but to be honest it has gone up and down. Sometimes I think it's absolutely great but sometimes it goes maybe 5 episodes and I'm thinking of stop watching. But I defenitely recomend you to give it a try. And if you have faith in Joss's judgement he thinks the show is great. 😉

I watched the first season on DVD. As compared to the original, it seemed much darker, and also more oriented to a more mature audience, and depended more on character development and acting than special effects. Admiral Adama doesn't have the "Pa Cartwright" type of personality, and they ditched those stupid robo-daggots.

The other seasons are on my "buy when money comes available" list, along with Seasons 2 and beyond of "Alias" and several others, but they haven't reached the top yet.

I got a loan some of the DVDs from a friend, and got told to watch more than one episode. More than one and I'd be hooked, apparently. I wasn't. I think it's cheesy and cliched. I don't like it. 😛

Cheesy and cliched. Hmm. I don't get that. Overwrought and self-important at times, yeah. But pretty good writing, acting and direction overall, IMO. I dug it.

I think it attracts a lot of people who normally aren't into sci-fi, space operas in general. It got sooo heavy into talky exposition to tie things up in Season 4, seemed like. But it ended pretty darn well I thought.

Best Science Fiction series since Babylon 5, maybe even up there with it.

If you like dark, intelligent, well written Sci Fi, definitely get the DVDs!

Agree with it...but I STILL give the edge to B5.

I absolutely disagree.

This is far from cliched science fiction.
You compare it to the bog standard sci-fi storylines and while you may see they have some, they totally redefine them.

I do feel that certain episodes within the over long arc (especially season 1) are just too much - it gets very depressing and you feel as tired as the characters at certain points, but I love the whole premise.

I also wouldn't say its cheesy.

Couldn't have said it any better.
Okay, I watched the first half of the miniseries today online and decided, "This is way too awesome to watch in crappy quality." So I went ahead and bought that and the first season of the TV show with overnight shipping because I don't wanna wait too long.

It is SO FRAKKING GOOD.
