Myself and Lyri were talking about possibly running a month long fic marathon in January here on the Buffy-Boards. The premise is very simple, each day a new fic will be posted, in all we will have 31 fics. The fics will be dedicated to Buffy's birthday so each fic will be centred on that, whether it be a birthday from the past, present or future is up to you.

What this thread is for is to find out if anyone is interested in contributing? The thought of writing fan-fics can be a bit daunting but these marathons are always fun and it's nice to log on everyday and have a new story to read, especially among friends🙂

So if your interested post in here. We will have to get things going fairly quickly so we have all the fics in by January.

Not that I am interested, as I am not, but I dont understand. Will each fic be a birthday? Does that mean Buffy is 31 years old? Here's another question and I know I am gonna get the red points for asking.. but when IS Buffy's birthday?

Yes each fic will be a Buffy birthday but the will not be in chronological order. Just a fic about a Buffy birthday. Buffy's birthday is in January, probably around the middle of the month (we can't be definite) hence why her birthday is the theme of the marathon🙂

Before I consider this I would like to have some more information. How long should these fanfictions be and when would be the deadline? How close do we have to stay to the theme of Buffy's brithday, is it something that's really the main part of the story or just stories centered around the time of her birthday?

EDIT: Comign back to the exact date, I've done some more research and now I think it's January 19.

I'm thinking we would won't all the fics in and beta'd by New Years Eve. As far as story lenght goes I'm thinking longer than a drabble definitely but they don't have to be epics by any means.

Content wise they would have to be set either on her birthday or within a couple of days of it, we would want more than a quick mention of her birthday but it doesn't have to dictate the entire fic. Also, since this a family forum we would have to cap the rating at PG-13.

Shouldn't it be capped at the maximum rating the show got? It is a Buffy forum, after all. People are here becasue they've seen the episodes.
Sounds cool! I'm working on another Wishverse story right now, but it's slow going and a short Buffy birthday fic might be just what I need to get the juices flowing. I'll submit a little somethin' somethin.' Great idea, guys!
 
I was gonna say "YES!" to this until I saw they have to be PG-13...I don't think I could write a PG-13 story if I tried LOL.
 
As I said to Kean in an email if we don't get enough people I would be willing to do two dates.

Couple of things though JUST for the purposes of this can have a decision on Buffy's DOB so at least we have some linkage between us all - note this isn't me suggesting that we officially state a Buffy Birthday, just use one for the purposes of this.

Also, just so we don't have people doing the same birthday years would we need to mark which one we would like?

I agree that a birthday should be decided upon, but I don't think that it's a problem if more than one person does the same birthday. There are 31 days after all. That could lead to people not contributing if all the good ones are "gone".

I'd be willing to have a go, but like LIJT I've never written fanfic before. It sounds like fun though!

Honestly lads I don't think it is necessary to 'book' which birthday you write about. Even if you do chose the same year your stories will be totally different. I don't want to limit what people can write about.

There is no such thing as 'the good one' in this, all the fics will stand independently unless we have special circumstances, still I don't see anyone's fic impinging on anyone elses'.

LM, apart from what I have done in the RPG I have never written a fic either but I am still going to give it a go, I think it would be fun and really if we are going to unleash our first fics anywhere it has to be BB😉

Also folks, I just want to reiterate that we will be keeping it PG-13. I really don't think the show ventured very far from that age range.

Sorry, that's what I meant. The first bit was about choosing a single birthdate for Buffy, so that people don't have to be vague.
I didn't mean it in the sense that there are good ones, just more along the lines of keeping some kind of cohesive stance in the story. If you have 5 aged 25 it would be completely fine but it would add a bit more spice if every age was different.
 
If a birthday was to be 'given' to some-one to write about that would be good.
If there are 10 people writing about birthdays and they all choose the same one, for arguements sake, a 15th birthday that Buffy spent in the nuthouse, the result might be a tad boring for members to read.

Damn, I've just had memory fade, how old was Buffy when she moved to Sunnydale?

I'm definitely taking part in this, and I can't wait to get started.

But all the comments about 'selecting' a Buffy birthday to write about, I don't think it's neccasary. People will be writing different fics, so what if we have two or more for her 16th? I for one would be very interested in reading the different fics and seeing how two different people think about that event.
 
Sounds like an interesting idea for sure. January may or may not be busy for me (finals, and I'm either going to be working 6 days a week with school, or 3 :silly: it remains to seen as to which it'll be!), but I'd be on board for sure. I love the theme 😀

And I agree about maybe not having to book dates, if it's really a concern maybe we could all just post what we're doing? That way if you want to do something different, you know what year everyone else is doing. Just a thought of course, if needs be I'd be happy to sign up accordingly 🙂

Just a question though, are we talking full-length multi-chapter fics or one-shot kind of fics?

Just so you, and anyone else who wants to know, I have already written and submitted one that is a one shot.

From what I gather the premise is simple.

Every day from Jan 1st to Jan 31st, Lyri or Keanoite will post a Fic. This will centre on or around one of Buffy's birthdays.

If 31 people are involved it would be one persons a day so I would also assume that multi chapter fics would have to be sent as one long fic.

Having said that, will 31 people put up their hands for one?

My recommendation is:

Everyone who wants to participate puts their names in this thread AND also if they are willing to write either multiple fics OR a multiple chapter - that way Keanoite and Lyri can work out a posting order of such.

I would also assume that as the fics will be posted on specific days, it would be better to have them sent through to Lyri and Keanoite as early as possible around 1st of January.

Pease tell me if I am wrong so others know the process.
 
Oh man... I wanna say I'll do it and help out, be a team player and all that cause it does sound really fun and its such a great and interesting idea... I'm just really scared I would completely suck at this. I do think I'm a good writer, but this type of thing, I don't know, it involves getting someone else's characters' voices right... its a bit daunting.... I'll think about it a bit more though...
