See, that's also my problem. I'm not really sure I can write well about somebody else's characters. I would also be afraid to miss some facts from season 8 (which I haven't read), the movie, or something that was just mentioned some time and I simply overheard. Though I would have an idea for somthing.
Also, I'm not too sure about my style of writing. First of all, PG-13, I don't even know what exactly taht allows and what not. Then there's the question if I even could write a story that doesn't read like some elementary school essay a 9-year-old would write.

I haven't read the comics but to be honest I don't think it matters.

I don't count the movie as canon and the comics well they are still in a state of flux so you can always ignore them as canon too.
I can 100% promise you that no one will mock you if you make a mistake.

Worst case senario you get a bit wrong - what will that do?

I would say the TV show is a guide. If you could imagine them doing or saying it on TV in the show, then it is fine.

Well it won't anyway but still that shouldn't stop you. If you write and you don't like you can always ask someone to help.
Alot of people on these boards write fanfic, one of them will assist.


I think you are worrying over things that aren't an issue and you should suck it up and do it.

Trust me once yours is posted everyone who reas it will be fair and honest but ultimately nice about it.

You know, I agree with EB. If you're interested, you should give it a try. It's not like critics are going to flay you alive and ruin your budding writing career. Fanfic writing is supposed to be low-pressure fun. It doesn't have to be your best work or anything. I mean, yes, we all appreciate a well-written story, but submitting a fan fic isn't like submitting your first novel to a national contest or to a publisher or something. Instead, it's more like a fun exercise shared amongst friends. And yes, it's difficult to write for someone else's characters, but that's part of the challenge. Don't let your jitters stop you. There really isn't anything on the line. It's just a bunch of fun -- a bunch of fun that you will regret not having if you let your nerves talk you out of it.

you guys are doing a pretty good job of convincing me... :)
Ok guys, I just want to put your minds at ease about this. The entire reason we are doing this is for fun, pure and simple. There is no competitive aspect to it at all. These boards are about ejoying your fandom and we thought this fic marathon would be another way for you to do that. Don't put pressure on yourselves to write the greatest piece of fiction known to man, this is about having fun with friends.🙂

I get how daunting it is, I feel it too. I have never written a fic before but does that mean I should never write one? If you are nervous about your fic and what you have written get one of us here at BB to proof read it first, we would be more than happy to oblige.

As far as what PG-13 means, the content of your fic should not be overtly sexual or extremely violent. If it was shown, and I mean actually shown and not suggested, on the show then it is ok for the fic.

I'll want the final drafts of the fics submitted by December 31st so I can start posting them straight away in January.

There isn't any other information you need but if you have questions be sure to pm me🙂

P.S. Anyone who takes part will get a shinny new button to put in their sigs🙂

And I agree about maybe not having to book dates, if it's really a concern maybe we could all just post what we're doing? That way if you want to do something different, you know what year everyone else is doing. Just a thought of course, if needs be I'd be happy to sign up accordingly 🙂

Ideally we would be looking for one shots but if you have a multi-chapter fic I'm sure we could arrange something for it🙂

Is there any way to send attachments through the on-site e-mail function here? I'm not sure it will all fit in the message body field, and I'd like to make sure the italics remain intact.

Ok guys I just wanted to check in with everyone and see how things are coming along and hopefully twist a few more arms into taking part😉

Also a few of you have pm'd me in regards the disclaimer and the format it will take. This is what we need you all include with your fics:

Title: Your Fic's name
Author: That'd be you😉
Pairing: If applicable
Rating: Anywhere from G-PG-13
Summary: A little snippet of what the story is about
Notes: Any extra information you want to add like maybe a song you have used or other sources of material that have helped you with your fic. Also you could include a dedication if you felt so inclined.
Disclaimer: The usual " The characters of BTVS belong to Joss Whedon, Twentirth Century Fox and NOT ME...blah blah blah" You know the drill
Warnings: Any spoilers or anything like that🙂
